The one thing that my other half, Rich, said to me when I started working for Rock My Style three years ago was ‘don’t change’. Well don’t tell Rich, but I reckon I have changed. Not necessarily for the worse, and not necessarily because of the job, but I am definitely a slightly different person.

Three years ago, I didn’t know a thing about flowers. I didn’t know a rose from a ranunculus. And I wasn’t too fussed about them either. I was someone who would rather be given a box of Maltesers than a bunch of flowers. But now I’ve styled whole shoots for Rock My Wedding with wild and wonderful blooms, and what’s more, I’m asking Adam if I can please keep some of the flowers at the end of the shoot.

Three years ago, I didn’t know what an avatar was, nor a Pinterest handle, and I wasn’t on Instagram. (Editor Lauren must have wondered what on EARTH Charlotte was doing employing this social-media-unsavvy individual!). Three years on and I’m fully versed in all things Facebook, Insta and Pinterest, and have been responsible for creating content and posting to all of our social media channels.

Three years ago, if you’d have told me that there was going to be a backlash against some of that same technology I would never have believed you. But I’m increasingly hearing snippets which suggest that this will be the case. On The High Low a couple of weeks ago, Dolly Alderton talked about how she reckons that the tables are on the turn, and that our grandchildren’s generation will be one that seeks invisibility. In his recent How To Fail interview with Elizabeth Day, Mo Gawdat opined “we are at a juncture of our history where more technology might not actually be what we need”. And I can’t not mention Charlotte’s post about the future of online media, or the Ted Talk that she forwarded to Team Rock My recently in which Carole Cadwalladr asks for the likes of Mark Zuckerberg and Larry Page to be held to account for their role in Brexit, and in ‘breaking’ democracy. I don’t know what the future holds for technology, but it feels like a vulnerable one.

Three years ago, my dream was to get a job working in interiors. Working for a lifestyle blog has enabled me to do this to a certain extent: I’ve shown you around my home, and my little boy’s room has been featured in my all-time favourite interiors magazine because of this (Ideal Home. Ideal HOME! I’m still pinching myself), and I’ve started to do bits of interior design work for friends and family. I’ve been lucky enough to have had the chance to style products and create posts for brands such as Hobbycraft, Howdens, DFS and Marks and Spencer. These, and the Sydney one, have been my favourite posts by far.

Three years ago, I was a mum to my little girl, Lyra; but my little boy, Jenson, wasn’t even a twinkle in my eye.

I’m off to spend a bit of quality time with my littles, and concentrate on making my interior design dream a reality.
