I have this thing with mirrors.
Much like my obsession with chairs (armchairs, easy chairs, occasional chairs….love them ALL) I have been known to get more than a little bit giddy about a new mirror. It’s not a vanity thing (promise!), instead I love how these objects can transform a room instantly by adding interest and more importantly reflecting precious light. Be it hung in a hallway, placed lovingly over a fireplace or grouped together as a feature, say at the top of the stairs for example, these objects are interior game changers.
So in true Rock My Style dirty enabling form, today’s post is our round-up of the most gorgeous mirrors available to buy right now and you’re going to want every single one of them…
Barker & Stonehouse
I had to start with my favourite mirror of the entire round-up – this shield shaped awesomeness from Barker & Stonehouse edged in the most delicious strip of vintage gold metal and all at the really very reasonable price of £129. At just under a meter high the mirror is crafted in the shape of a simple shield but still providing plenty of mirror to be able to decently inspect your mush. The gold edge adds the touch of the modern, while the unusual crest shape will add interest to any room. All in all, I think it’s fit for a queen.
Brissi
Brissi is one of my guilty pleasures; all monochrome greys and splashes of silver for a contemporary home but with that essential bit of comfort to stop it becoming too cold and hostile. I’ve also been hankering after this tray for far too long…Anyway I digress.
Ste and I were lucky enough to be able to purchase the New England mirror from the brand using vouchers received on our wedding day and I’m pleased to say it looks every bit as brand new as it did when it first came out of the box. The quality is excellent; made from wood and painted in the signature Brissi Grey, and then perfectly finished with bevelled glass. At just under a meter wide it’s large enough to make a classic statement without taking over a room entirely.
The White Company
I can’t think of anything more handy for the bathroom than a mirror with a shelf…I mean it’s almost like having four hands instead of two. The White Company have come up trumps with their amazing boxy mirror shelf. Made from a resilient, water-resistant finish in glossy white, the frame of the mirror acts as a shelf which can be used to display candles and stylish toiletries….or in my case a handy ledge for various makeup tubes whilst I’m applying my makeup. I want one already….
BHS
I’m more than a little bit sad to hear that one of the staples of the great British High Street has gone into liquidation; the brand actually made some awesome products so I’ll be sad to see it go. It’s worth checking the store out for some home bargains however as they’re beginning to get rid of stock at really very reasonable prices.
This chunky black round border number has just the right amount of classic statement appeal without being overwhelming…see it as the more masculine equivalent to the softer grey mirror from Brissi which I mentioned previously. Currently retailing at £150 I think it’s a steal at the price; the reviews seem to agree with this too…
John Lewis
You may already be familiar with this strapping mirror from John Lewis if you read Charlotte’s Beauty Station DIY post on the blog last year. The mirror is her absolute FAVOURITE thing about the whole set up and we’re all a little bit green eyed whenever we pop over and see it in situ. Charlotte opted for the copper version in a 50cm diameter but this design is also available in a 38cm and 30cm diameter and comes in both nickel and brass finishes as well.
Marks & Spencer
It was the lovely Lisa who pointed me in the direction of this subtle blush pink beauty. It is gorgeous and only £35 to boot. I know, crazy bananas. I’m seriously trying to resist purchasing one if only because I have nowhere to hang one for the next six months but it’s SO nice. Sleek, simple and sophisticated, the edge of this wooden mirror is gently brushed in pink for the softest touch of feminine glamour. I can see this at home in a girly dressing room or even a teenage girl’s bedroom.
OKA
For some reason I always seem to forget about the brand OKA when on the hunt for something interiors related and this is so incredibly short-sighted of me because they have some really gorgeous homeware pieces. This quatrefoil shaped design with a black stained wooden frame has style in spades albeit with a hefty price tag; I like it nonetheless. Granted the unique shape doesn’t exactly lend itself to practical uses but in this case it’s more about the drama of the piece; I particularly love how they’ve styled it with the white lampshades for monochrome cool. The design would work in both modern and traditional schemes and it can be hung both horizontally or vertically.
Laura Ashley
I actually have the Beth Mirror in white and have been the proud owner of the piece for probably about seven years now. It’s not increased in price in the whole of that time which I think is pretty good going really and yes I also purchased mine in the sale rather than paying full price. It’s currently on offer for £245 so I urge you to take advantage of this sale period if you’ve fallen in love with it.
The piece is reminiscent of French glamour from the days of Versailles with its ornate, moulded frame and hand applied metal leaf champagne finish. And it’s heavy, like REALLY heavy so you’ll definitely need to mount it on a solid wall to prevent it coming crashing down around your ears. Another top tip is to use a hairdryer to blast off the dust that settles on all of the beautiful mouldings because it’s a pain in the neck to clean. Aside from that it’s most definitely one of my long-term favourite interior pieces.
So there you are…are you a mirrors fiend like me? Perhaps there’s another home accessory you just can’t resist buying over and over again…Which of the above is your favourite?
I have a bit of a mirror addiction too. They are some how easier to live with than pictures.
I’m in love with this h&m mirror. Small but perfect!

I’ve recently bought a black hanging mirror with a leather strap, but I have no idea what to use to hang it on. Do I use a normal nail?! Any ideas? I did look at the photos of Charlotte’s hanging mirror, but I couldn’t tell what she’d used…
Hi Katharine, I have a very similar one and used two things – a proper screw for the back of the mirror and then a simple tack for to hang the strap in position x

Saw this yesterday in Heal’s and now have to try to resist buying as I do not need another mirror.
