Not sure about you and your other half, but if you’re anything like me and Mr C then you’re unlikely to be celebrating Valentine’s Day down a top notch restaurant. We have been known to eat Posh Beans on Toast on February the 14th – the one where you add a poached egg on the top. Hugely fancy I know.
If you’re having dinner at home this year, I’ve put together a very quick table to get your V Day evening off to a romantic start. A very dear of my friend of mine is a Valentino Baby and celebrates her birthday on the 14th so I’m also considering doing something similar for a celebratory lunch too.
It’ll take minutes to set up and just involves layering up all your crockery, splashing out on a few fancy napkins (these ones are from Rachel Ashwell), and whipping out your favourite glassware.
Crockery and Cutlery
I took a few plates and bowls and simply stacked them on top of each other. Yep, that’s it. While our plates are contrasting colours and subtle patterns, layered up crockery also looks really smart if you just stick to one colour palette too. Our plates are a combination of Kate Spade and Laura Ashley.
Rather than setting your cutlery in the usual way, grab a piece of ribbon or ric-rac and tie nonchalantly around the knife and fork to jazz up the table.
On the Menu
I’m imagining that I’d be serving up a light soup to start in a gorgeous heart shaped bowl. (You can find similar in Wilko.) We’d then follow with a steak (for him – I’m a pretend vegetarian) and then finish with ridiculously chocolatey dessert that would be eaten with these stylish heart silver spoons from Culinary Concepts.
Fizz and Flowers
On to the vino. I am in love with the White Company’s Champagne Saucers. They look gorgeous filled with any fizz but throwing in few raspberries makes the scene even more special. The beautiful pressed glasses are from Butlers.
As the cost of roses rockets at this time of year we’ve created a very simple floral arrangement of lisianthus, seasonal tulips and pink blossom which looks stunning in the pink mercury votive from The Wedding of My Dreams. There’s room to add a load of tealights too to add an extra romantic touch.
What’s on the menu for your Valentine’s celebrations? Anyone feeling inspired to set a fancy table for their beau?
P.S. If you’re still stuck for a Valentine’s card don’t forget to take a look at our selections.
The heart shaped Le Creuset dish is so cute!! I have some little purple ones, which I love, but their standard round shape has now paled into insignificance alongside these beauts xx
I know what you mean Emma, I feel the same!!!! I now ONLY want heart-shaped crockery!
They are adorable aren’t they Emma? So cute! x
My hubby says he doesn’t ‘do’ V day but as he’s just started getting into cooking for me this has given me some inspiration to give him the nudge to get in the kitchen! Fish is our favorite treat! I love the choice of flowers, great to have a change from roses.
Glad you like Rebecca! Good luck with getting him in the kitchen! x
