On Thursday Rock My Style turns one. Whether you’ve been here since the very first day, or this is the first time you’ve visited, thank you for stopping by. Over the past year we’ve published over 500 posts and more than 10,000 comments. I have no idea how many cups of coffee have been consumed during the writing of all those posts but it’s a lot. It’s been a great year and the best part, for all of us on the RMS team, is the community we’ve created and how generously you’ve shared your advice, encouragement and recommendations.
Twelve months of Rock My Style later and my life has changed in lots of ways. I’ve replaced more than half of my beauty products with more natural alternatives – Pai, PitRok and RMS are all brands that are on my radar (and in my beauty cabinet) thanks to your comments. Knowing that lots of you are trying to live healthier lives inspires me to make healthier choices every day. I’ve found myself saying yes to invitations to do things that might make a good post, one of which involved me, spray can in hand, creating my own street art. And I have an ever-growing pile of books to read and a new book club to read them with (so excited!).
Before joining the RMS team it was a long time since I’d written very much at all. As a magazine editor my days were spent reading other people’s words. I wasn’t sure what my natural writing style was (did I even have one?!) and so it always means a lot when you’ve said that you enjoyed reading a post. Your encouragement has helped me find my voice and made me realise how important writing is to me. So thank you, you’re awesome! x
Lauren:
Way back in April we featured one of our first Reader Requests. The lovely Fran asked for suggestions for her Italian getaway saying that she automatically trusted your opinions because they were from fellow RMS readers. Well nothing could make us happier than knowing how highly you rate all the advice and recommendations, not only from us back at HQ, but also from the other readers.
Thanks to suggestions from the whole RMS gang (yes, you are part of the gang!) I’ve holidayed in Lake Garda, discovered a whole wealth of beauty products including Collection 2000 concealer (it really is like Touche Eclat!) and Revlon Lip Butter, I’ve rekindled my exercise regime and enjoyed the benefits of a capsule wardrobe. Thanks Claire! Even in the last week I’ve searched for my kitchen timer to get the most out of my slow cooker, browsed Etsy for a receipt spike to keep my paperwork in order, and downloaded the Headspace app to help clear my mind. I can’t wait to visit the places you recommended for my upcoming trip to Seville. Thanks to each and every one of you who has advised and commented. You really are a lovely bunch! x
Charlotte:
Because of the RMS community I am financially poorer but significantly amazing product richer (!) I have discovered the world’s best, not-patchy, non-itchy, non-orange fake tan (Coco Brown at Feelunique), a super inexpensive yet easy-to apply liquid eyeliner (Supercat Soap and Glory), various beautiful fashion pieces for my daughter and what has turned out to be an easy to clean, take apart, put back together and really comfortable highchair.
As well as the tangible delights that you lovely folks have brought to my dressing table (and bathroom cabinet AND Mabel’s wardrobe…) I have so many beautiful family holiday destinations to consider we’ll never be stuck with where to go ever again. I look forward to sharing my motherhood experiences every Monday not just because it feels good to help and inspire others, but because I get a wealth of advice and support in return. x
We’d love to know which posts and recommendations you’ve found most useful over the past year. If you have a minute, do leave a comment below! For reader recommendations delivered to your inbox every fortnight, sign up to our newsletter here.
I’ve loved Rock My Style! It’s been such a great read and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every post even if I only comment sporadically!
Keep up the great work! x
Thank you Harriet! x
Your fashion edit rocks! But my bank balance laments… x
Yay and oh dear! x
I read RMS every day, I love the mix of the posts and find it sets me up for my day ahead. Thanks RMS! You make that early morning start more bearable!! Keep doing what your doing x
That’s great to hear Nadine, happy to hear we brighten up your morning! x
I have been reading Rock My Style pretty much every day since it started and I love it. I love the variety of content, I have pinned lots of the travel advice to revisit when planning this year’s holiday, I regularly try the beauty recommendations and the interiors advice really helped me when putting together bits for my new house. You guys should be so proud of what you have achieved and I can’t wait to see more from you 🙂 xx
Thanks Emma, so lovely to hear! xx
Ahhh how nice to get a name check, thank you Lauren! And Happy 1st Birthday Rock My Style! I remember being so excited when I learnt that RMW was creating a new blog. I’ve read it nearly everyday, and if I miss a few days it’s almost better as I get to binge on a few posts all at once.
The response to my Italy reader request was fantastic. We had one of the best meals of our whole trip in Rome thanks to a recommendation from another lovely reader of RMS. So thank you RMS team and thank you fellow readers! Keep up the good work! Xxx
It left me with a huge smile when you said you trusted the RMS readers Fran. So glad you had such a fab Rome trip x
I too am a daily reader, stopping in twice if time allows! I love your discussion posts the most, and of course Charlotte’s beauty reviews/recommendations 🙂
Thanks for a year full of feelings, fashion and fun!
Katie x
Pleasure Katie! x
I read twice a day too and make it part of my coffee break (or sneaky skive!) at work.
I love that a lot of the posts reflect where I am in my life. So currently loving the home decor and health related posts but having a wee one can totally relate to the baby/family ones too. Keep up the good work guys!! 🙂
Will do, thanks Nicola!
Love RMS. Avid reader and whilst I can barely afford beans on toast I like to dream about how put together my life could be thanks to RMS. I also think I saw Lauren in the pub on Saturday, had to stop myself being a fan girl…especially if wasn’t actually you Lauren!
Seriously Kathryn?! I was in Sheffield at the weekend. Were you there?! You totally should have come and said hello! x
Porter Cottage? I really was going to come over and gush about RMS and RMW (which I absolutely should not be reading!!) but really didn’t know if it was you or not.
Yes it was me! I’ll say ‘hello’ virtually instead but next time you must come and say hi! x
I heart RMS – it really is a little highlight twice a day! I love the fashion, beauty, travel & healthy living features. I find the maternity stuff interesting although I’m not at that stage myself yet hopefully one day I’ll have this store of information to call on. The recipe posts don’t ususally keep me entertained for that long – however the smoked salmon and leek pasta recipe that Adam posted is still a firm favourite in our house (you can make it with courgetti too!). Keep up the good work RMS – we love you!
I’m totally trying the salmon and leek pasta dish with courgetti this weekend Bryony – can’t believe I didn’t think of it before!
Happy birthday RMS! I’ve enjoyed your posts over the last year and I look forward to reading many more. Now, off to track down that Collection 2000 concealer ….
Hi Sian, I have lots of love for the Illuminating Touch one x
Congratulations on reaching a year old and thank you for such inspirational posts. I love all your posts especially the interiors ones.
I recently gave my living room a fresh lick of paint. It’s been two and half years since we last painted and whilst browsing the shelves of B&Q I remembered Lauren’s recomendation for Crown’s Sail White emulsion. Several 2.5 litre pots later, it looks great even if I do say so myself. And what’s better is it was on offer at 1/2 price!
Well done and keep up the good work guys x x
This reminds me my lounge desperately needs painting again. It’s been nearly four years! Glad you’re feeling the Sail White love x
Happy birthday RMS! I’ve really enjoyed reading for the past year and am looking forward to more. 🙂
Sorry – I know you didn’t ask for any ‘suggestions’ but something just occurred to me so I hope it’s okay to put it on your happy bday post! Would it be poss to get ‘user accounts’ or anything for people commenting?
I’d like to ‘virtually’ get to know other commenters on here but it’s difficult because commenters (is that even a word?) can just use their first name (the ones with photos/different-sounding names are more identifiable!) etc. So it’s hard to know if “Jane” who wanted to get a slow cooker is the same “Jane” who posted about her baby turning 8 months. It would build a nice community on here to be able to follow people’s stories etc. If that makes any sense!
Kate, it’s so interesting to hear you say this….Adam and I started off with a new platform idea which (as per usual when we design anything!!!) has turned into this beast of a thing. A SEXY beast I might add but what you have requested here is very close to an aspect of the design. We’ll keep you updated with progress (because at this stage our team will be reading this comment and going “what the hell?!” – we haven’t even told them yet!!!!) xxxx
I LOVE this idea. I really like it when blog friends can turn into real life friends (and obvs, because they read RMS, you already know they’re cool yes??)
Oh amazing, that’s exciting news! That’ll be so fun – I’m not at all surprised you guys were all over this already, I kind of thought you would be! 😉 xx
Happy 1st birthday RMS! Love hearing how much you love the Supercat Charlotte :o) I couldn’t be without mine. I now too am a Cocoa Brown convert after reading about it on here. Has saved me a huge amount already after years of buying a far more expensive brand. Looking forward to many more years of following you guys x
Thanks Becca! x
Rock My Style is part of my daily online browsing routine.,..Facebook, Pinterest, Rock My Style!!
I love the posts from like minded and fashionable writers – I too have recently bought a slow cooker – and although I haven’t actually managed to do any clean eating, I enjoy trying out the recipes!
I have also made purchases as a result of the fashion/trend posts – I like the way that the items are always affordable. And when you buy them, you know you are buying something fashionable – because Rock My Style says so!!
Well done to you guys, loving your work! x
You continue to inspire! Well done on your first year! x
Thanks Ellie, so lovely to hear we inspire you! x
Just to echo everyone else, RMS is the highlight of my working day for sneaky non-work time (like now…) I always check back as like reading to comments too.
Love RMS, don’t change!
Aw thanks Victoria!
Happy Birthday!!
I too am a daily reader. I’ve always bed a magazine girl but since having babies I just don’t have the time so I love that I can get my beauty or fashion hit so quickly with RMS.
My little girl is the same age as Mabel so I love charlottes Monday posts.
Thanks to Lauren I have the urge to paint my whole house grey and have discovered Pinterest much too my husbands dislike!
Keep it up ladies xxx
Thanks Amy (tempted to paint my house, well flat, grey too!). x
Happy birthday gang.
As with a lot us RMW readers, its become a perfect home for my daily online pottering. Thanks for being fab x
Happy birthday to ya! Thanks for giving me something to look at during lunch at my desk (can’t wait for better weather so can get out and walk at lunchtime again!) and something to look at when I need a break from the dozens of emails I have to answer!
Still need to submit my reader request as I can’t wait for recommendations from this cool in-the-know gang!
Thanks Kitty! I’m forcing myself to take a walk around the block at lunchtime unless it’s actually raining, looking forward to better weather though. Do send us your request, we’ll do our best to help.
I LOVE Rock My Style! As a tired mama I feel part of a group even if I don’t get a chance to comment as much as I’d like. Plus the posts give me something to look forward to reading during my work lunch break 🙂 Thank you! x
Aw thanks Jennifer, lovely to hear you look forward to reading RMS! x
Well RMS, you are my ‘go to’ for all manner of reasons. I wouldn’t dream of buying makeup without checking out Charlottes beauty posts first and my pinterest boards are filled with inspiration from these pages. My beautiful Zara Jumper was a find from the winter fashion post and I’m now reading more thanks to the fabulous book club. As we are renovating our first home I have been constantly sourcing furniture, paint and bits and bobs with the help of the interiors posts, and my husband now knows that Cox and Cox isn’t a shop that sells apples.
Thank you RMS for everything you are xxx
Pleasure and happy to hear that we’ve helped in lots of different areas of your life Hannah! Charlotte and I just had a catch up about the book club – so excited!!! xxx
Awesome date to have a birthday……it’s my birthday on Thursday too! 🙂 There will definitely be cake! Looking forward to another year of RMS wonderfulness xx
Happy Birthday Kiddo!!!!!!!!! x
Happy birthday for Thursday!! xx
Happy Birthday RMS! I feel like I comment too much, ha. Massive RMS keeno here. You get the variety of posts spot on, it’s such a lovely website to come and visit. I love the travel, health and interiors posts the best, but I read them all and find everything interesting. I really like the chatty posts – like the travel one last week, or which boxsets to watch etc. Congratulations on an amazing first year x
Sian you can NEVER comment too much 🙂 xx
I wanted to add my congratulations on an amazing first year to the love fest above. RMS has inspired me to buy and do all sorts of things including sharing my love for Pai, getting the Headspace app and rekindling my love of reading. In fact this post is reminding me that I need to search the archives for more books to read.
Aw thanks Sarah, check out the comments below the Rock My Reading list post (link in post above) – so many great recommendations for you to work your way through!
I heart RMS! Happy Birthday! Keep up the brilliant work Xx
Thanks Kate! xx
Ahhhh happy 1st RMS-versary! I love this blog so much, clearly the make up/Beauty/hair/skin posts in particular but everything is great! Even though I don’t have children I enjoy hearing about cute little Mabel and how people generally find having kids. Love having a good neb at people’s houses and interiors and getting ideas for when we eventually find the forever house! Congrats to you all! Xx
Thank you Alex! xx
Happy birthday! I’m a fairly new reader but am totally hooked on your posts. Love the variety of topics. Looking forward to reading more!
Caroline this may seem like an odd reply but did you used to read RMW? I thought I recognised your cute avatar! Regardless, I’m so glad you’re enjoying RMS xx
Yes I did 🙂
Found out about this blog via one of our wedding suppliers that got featured here recently, when they shared the link on Facebook.
I love RMS, have been a daily reader for the past year!
Particularly enjoy the interiors and travel posts! Charlotte’s maternity and motherhood posts are fab too, currently struggling to start a family but hopefully will get there soon!
Thanks Charlotte, so happy to hear you enjoy the interiors, travel and maternity posts. Wishing you lots of luck with starting your own family. xxx
Happy Birthday!!
I read all your posts, it depends what I’m up to whether they’re particularly relevant (though I don;t think there’ll ever be a time I@m not a make up junkie).
Re: book club – its bit random but would anyone would like to do a real life book club meet up??
Thanks Claire!
Congratulations on reaching a year old! Thanks to your blog I had an excellent meal at Screaming Beans whilst on a short break in Amsterdam and following my recommendations some colleagues also visited. My husband and I also had an enjoyabl eafternoon sampling the delights that Gollem’s Proeflokaal had to offer in their vast array of beers!
Hurrah, happy to hear the recommendations worked out Nikki!
Happy Birthday Lovelies!!!
Hope you are celebrating with something sparkly! 😉
Have loved reading RMS – it’s like a stylish glossy but with the added community feel. Is so much nicer being able to comment and discuss with other readers
Fab work as always guys xxx
Thank you Rebecca!! I might have a glass of something sparkly on the weekend, once dry Jan is done. Am I allowed a drink on Saturday evening do you think? It’ll be February in Australia…
Oh wow, I think I recommended Pitrok. I have been outed as recommending a deoderent on one of the most stylish UK blogs
Why did the rest of my post disappear, does it not like my embarrassed smelt face?!
Happy birthday RMS, here’s to many more x x
*smiley. Oh for crying out loud!!
Haha, thank you Faye. I love PitRok, it’s certainly the most stylish natural deo I’ve tried! xx
I can’t believe it’s been a year since you guys started this!
I am now running a half marathon thanks to the inspiration in the fitness posts, read regularly thanks to the awesome book recommendations lasts year and visited some amazing places in Italy on my honeymoon.
I’m full of ideas for a great friend’s hen do in Seville and full of memories from a fab 30th birthday in Bath. All of this is thanks to RMS!
Can’t wait to see what the next 12 months bring!
I know, I can’t believe it’s a year either. It’s wonderful to hear that we’ve inspired you to run a half marathon Rebecca as well as rocking your reading list and your travel plans! I’m looking forward to the next 12 months too!
Awww what a lovely post and bunch of comments! Happy birthday RMS! I’ve been hooked since hashtagging maternity on instagram for some help with my bored wardrobe and finding Charlotte looking gorgeous and 3 days more pregnant than me! I love all of it – the interiors, the fashion and make up, the books, the motivation to keep active, to cook and eat clean… and particularly all the parenting stuff… having a 9 month old I can steal all your advice for Charlotte as I’ve completely forgotton what to do with a baby since the last one! Thanks for getting me through my maternity leave and now for getting me through a very tired evening after a very long day at work! Xx
Thank you Amanda – happy you found us and that we helped you through your maternity leave and that you’re still with us! x
It’s the 2nd best part of coming home at night after spending time with the little ones then moving onto rock my style. Can’t believe its been a year thank you xxx
Aw, what a lovely comment Helen, happy to hear we’re the second best part of your evening! x
