Don’t they? certainly paired with a sexy smoky eye. As it happens I am always a bit confused by the term “nude”, I see a true nude nude as almost fleshy in tone, and to be perfectly honest that’s quite a difficult hue to pull off. I (rightly or wrongly) tend to say nude when I actually mean a “natural lip” or a “YLBB” (your lips but better) shade.

Here are my top five nude-y/natural/YLBB favourites (and believe me I have tried HUNDREDS) which are all under twelve quid. I’ll do my absolute best to describe each colour in detail because let’s face it, they do look rather similar in the tube.

Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish in 17 £5.49

For the money I think these Kate Moss branded lipsticks are excellent, a fancy finish that is genuinely long-lasting without drying out your lips. They actually remind me of Chanel, yes really. This is probably the most obvious pigmented colour from my top five, with definite mauve undertones.

For Spring number 16 is also worth a butchers – a gorgeous orange coral.

You can purchase Rimmel at Boots.

& Other Stories Pointelle Flesh £12.00

This is perhaps the most genuinely “nude” of my picks and certainly the glossiest. As the name would suggest it is a fleshy hue and looks lovely when paired with grey/and or metallics on the eye.

The packaging is super chic and it is very moisturising with a sheerer finish than the others, a good choice for those who rarely wear lipstick at all.

& other Stories has a beautifully designed on-line website and a HUGE store on Regent Street in London. You could spend a whole day in there I swear.

Sleek Lipstick Palette in Ballet £8.99

This is a BRILLIANT find. You get 4 colours, in various shades of beige, brown and pink with matt, gloss and satin finishes. You can then literally mix them up until your heart’s content (or until you create the perfect YLBB hue!)

I like to combine Swan Lake (a medium pink matt) with Plie (a fleshy gloss) on top.

I am yet to try other items from this brand but next time I’m at Superdrug I will definitely be investing, so impressed am I but the quality of the palette.

E.L.F Runway Pink £5.00

One of the more expensive options from this super budget brand, runway pink actually pulls more mauve/brown but does have a lovely very expensive satin feeling consistency. It is also one of the most long-lasting I have tried.

If I am particularly pale this can look a little drab but suits my Mum’s more olive toned skin beautifully.

E.L.F is only available on-line and believe me when I say you will spend a LONG TIME browsing.

“B” Doll’s House £7.99

This is probably my overall favourite, especially in terms of colour, a flattering peachy pink (excellent on blondes) it has a creamy almost opaque coverage and makes your lips look that little bit poutier.

I would recommend applying, blotting and re-applying so as to increase longevity as due to the nature of the texture it’s not exactly the most long-lasting. Smears on your teacup are a small price to pay for looking this fabulous.

“B.” is available exclusively at Superdrug
