It’s hump day which means that the long weekend is just around the corner. I know, for me at least, that Fridays don’t really have the same ‘wahooooooo it’s the weekend’ feeling that they once did now that we have a nearly two year old in tow. That said there is still a audible sigh of relief from both Ste and I as we sink into the sofa after Hector has gone to bed with two whole days (three days this week) stretched out in front of us to enjoy at a more leisurely pace.
The Friday feeling is a universal and somewhat obvious delight, something that we all share…but what about your guilty pleasures? We thought we’d delve into the hidden recesses of some of the RMLtd team’s minds to find out their secret indulgences are and share them with you on the blog. Perhaps you might like to share your own; we promise we won’t judge š

Rich once posted on Facebook that he āreally likes 80s musicā. I shamelessly mocked him for this and have not let him forget it. However the truth is that I also āreally like 80s musicā, in fact my guilty pleasure is pretty much anything from the Eighties.
My favourite film of all time is Ferris Buellerās Day Off. I still love a prawn cocktail or a Viennetta ice cream. Even my favourite song, THAT one from the film Drive, āA Real Heroā, was 80s inspired. And of course, all the best people were born in the 80s.

I will admit to being a bit of a trash tv fan and my current favourite is watching all the re runs of Gossip Girl on Netflix. What is there not to love about watching a bunch of privileged Manhattan kids getting hideously drunk (how do they manage to get in to bars at 16 in America???) and ending up with each others boyfriends. Plus I just adore the clothes. Even though Iāve seen it all before, probably twice, I still love it. Iāve even been enjoying doing the ironing as I use it as an excuse to squeeze in another episode.
Another incredibly random guilty pleasure is eating cold baked beans from the tin!! Donāt ask but itās something Iāve always done and have no idea why but they are just so delicious!!
Lauren
Since cutting down on processed foods last year the changes have been pretty dramatic. However for that ten percent of the time when Iām feeling a bit cheeky I canāt get enough of that gourmet delight, the crisp sandwich. Put those kettle chips inside a cheese topped roll and hail the carby crunch. If I get the opportunity to dine on the crisp sarnie while having a good old scroll down the Daily Mail Wall of Shame then Iām in heaven with my hat on.
Lolly
At the risk of sounding like a major geek, my idea of heaven is to settle down with a glass of (almond) milk and a plate full of M&S cookies and watch reruns of Time Team interspersed with the odd DVD of Monty Don showing me around the most coveted gardens in the world. Granted there are so many other things I could choose but the idea of stealing some (currently non-existent) me tv time is worlds away from my current day to day schedule with a 22 month old toddler.
Lorna
My guilty pleasure HAS to be a good old musical. Calamity Jane and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers are two of my all time favourite films. Working for Rock My Wedding I can often be found humming along to the ‘June Bride’ song. In fact as I type this I just couldnāt resist popping it on my iTunes. And because I was feeling seasonal I then followed it with āGirl for all Seasonsā from Grease 2. Yep Grease 2! I think my street cred If I had any has definitely gone out of the window nowā¦
What are your guilty pleasures? Are they food related or activity based? Or just plain weird? Why not tell us in the comments box below…
Ahh as a shift worker there is nothing more galling than an insta of FB feed full of people with that Friday feeling when you know yo have a weekend of work ahead!!
I don’t feel guilt about anything that gives me pleasure but I do have some pretty cheesy taste in movies, and plenty of snacks, ideally nachos with plastic cheese sauce!!
Watching Nashville. Eating mini battenbergs.
Clearly I have been living under a rock…what is this Nashville you speak of??
Nashville is about country music stars. Starts with two main characters, one is reigning queen of country and one up and coming starlet (plus a few others trying to make it). Of course, they are all intertwined with affairs, blackmail, weddings, drugs, scandal and lots of complicated love lives. Plus a lot of amazing hair, cowboy boots and rhinestones.
Nashville is amazing! We got so into it that we went to see “Nashville in Concert” – yes that’s right, the stars of the show singing numbers from the show! š
watching a lot of Nashville on catch up. My slightly gross habits are probably eating custard straight from a tin. I also love listening to Kisstory… Late 90s/early 00s RnB/Dance/Garage… Nostalgic!
Another massive Kisstory fan here Abi š
Another Nashville fan here! And *whispers* Made in Chelsea…much to the disgust of my husband! There is nothing like watching a bit of trash TV in my pyjamas, whilst eating my weight in chocolate (happens a little less frequently these days with a 5 month old baby!)
The new series starts tonight. I’m series linking so I can binge when I’m on maternity leave!
It would have to be watching back to back re runs of Cold Feet, the best! I’m also with Lauren on the crisp sandwich, but with a sneaky bit of Nutella on too – slightly gross but so so good!
Now theres one I’ve never tried Chloe š
Chloe did you know there’s a new series of Cold Feet starting soon?! x
I’m with you Chloe – salt and vinegar crisps with chocolate at the same time is SOOOOO good! I introduced my husband to it and he’s a fan too!
omg, I have long been mocked because of my love of mixing S&V crisps and chocolate, and now at least I’m not alone! Hurrah!
I was going to say watching something like ‘Bake Off’ (cant wait for it to start tonight!) while enjoying a glass of wine/gin/anything and doing a bit of pinning, but I thought, ‘hell, I’m not feeling guilty for that….!!
I feel guilty for watching trash tv -Made in Chelsea/Towie/Keeping up with the Kardashians/anything on E!/Dance Moms (new favourite!!) whist eating melted dark chocolate with a grind of sea salt on it straight from a bowl or that tinned caramel/nutella I buy for baking, but usually end up shoveling a few spoonful’s straight into my mouth, secretly, whilst watching the aforementioned terrible TV shows….!
Or a secret packet of Frazzles/Wheat Crunchies in the car…..!!
Frazzles, space invaders and pickled onion monster munch. In front of E News ?
I have just discovered Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I’m only sorry that I didn’t discover it a year ago when I was starting maternity leave rather than now when I’m back at work. call me boring, but I do love watching something where you are guaranteed nothing really bad is going to happen! š
Love this thought! I used to have to steel myself to watch an episode of something like Breaking Bad or The Killing. But some nights I just didn’t have it in me. Totes going to watch Gilmore Girls. And not just because it’s my maiden name & I have a sister.
Lauren you need to try it, it’s a must.. and Lisa I know I cannot wait for new Cold Feet, I just hope it’s as good as it once was!
Definitely Nashville and Gossip Girl. Also Love Your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh. Oh, and Long Lost Family – I cry at every episode!
But perhaps worst of all…playing PokĆ©mon Go in my lunch break…
Lolly I knew I wouldn’t be the only one – my other half thinks I’m gross. Also if you’re ever feeling brave, Mcdonalds’ fries dipped in milkshake..too far? Probably but it’s the king of salty and sweet!
It’s worth a try Chloe…in the name of scientific research of course ?
Anything trashy on TV – TOWIE & Ex On The Beach especially, shouting at the TV ‘REALLY?! you didn’t realise your ex that you despise was about to rock up?!?!’ My husband despairs of me but I love it!
P.S Lauren is that your living room?! LOVE that rug, can i ask where it’s from? x
Hi Jenna, it is indeed. The rug was from HomeSense but about four or five years ago. It’s way past its best now unfortunately. Loaf do one that’s kind of similar x
Listening to Tina Turner on my commute to work. Pretending to be healthy by drinking peppermint tea but lacing it with toffee drops (tastes like a werther’s original). Made In Chelsea even though it makes me shout at the screen…..every week. YouTube videos on makeup tutorials that I will never ever attempt. Putting my headphones in at the gym even if there is no music playing just so I can have some me time.
I also wholeheartedly agree with some of the above. Guilty pleasures are the best š Cold Feet new season….what?! And eating baking supplies especially when caramel is involved has scuppered so many of my culinary attempts.
I’m so with Lauren, my guilty pleasure is ‘Mail Online’ !!!
Just love scrolling down after a long day and escaping into the world of UK & US Showbiz – total trash, but love it!
Another one for me is a good juicy 5/6 part drama on BBC / ITV – Dr Foster / The Secret / In The Club / Mistresses ( a few years ago, but loved it!)
I love this thread! My guilty pleasure is bad TV and it’s really bad- u can’t get enough of ‘Border Patrol’ (what’s not to love about watching people smuggling bags of dried fish into Sydney in their trousers!) and also love a bit of Worlds Strongest Man. My husband doesn’t know what to make of it! I’m also a fan of dry cereal out of the box…!
Lulu my husband is a closet watcher of that American series which involves people blind bidding on lock-ups that have been abandoned by their owners. Can’t remember for the life of me what it’s called. There’s always some petty infighting that goes on as well!
Ha ha! I’ve watched that too! I can’t remember what’s its called but it somehow leaves me in so much suspense I’ve had to watch it right up until the end.
Storage Hunters! We’ve watched that in the past, it’s weirdly entertaining. The one guy who bids by just shouting “Money!”
Ha! That’s the one Kitty. So entertaining!
Storage hunters!!!
Oh YES Vics! Thanks it’s been driving me up the wall trying to remember!
Nashville – totally! Can’t wait for it to start again on Thursday…. And as another reader said, ‘Love Your Garden’. Love a bit of Alan Titchmarsh and watching lovely gardens get made. That and a glass of wine and a bag of cheese and onion crisps and I’m in heaven!
Whem my husband is late home from work, or away for the weekend, I am secretly so excited to watch Grey’s Anatomy without anyone telling me to turn it off or questioning ‘How many times have you seen this?’ (I have seen all seasons 4 times in full…)
I absolutely LOVE Grey’s too Milly and have watched episodes/seasons more than once. It’s only a month until the new season starts! xx
NEW SEASON!!! EEEEK!!!!! Interested to see what they do with it considering the killing off of a certain dreamyness xx
Ah, what an awesome comments section today! Guilty pleasures, let me see…drinking posh spirits with Appletiser or Orangina (because they’re classy mixers right?!)….Snapped Killer Couples (an amazingly trashy true-crime programme on CBS)….Heinz Ravioli (absolutely a balanced adult meal)….Buffy the Vampire Slayer (so wanted to be her in my teenage years!) and Cheesy Puffs. All the Cheesy Puffs.
My guilty pleasure- Lazy Saturday Mornings. Each week like clockwork my family (I still live at home) all leave the house by 10 and return by 1. This gives me three hours to make pancakes, a big vat of Coffee and lie on my window seat and read a book. Something I have been doing since I was 17.
Last week my sister came home early and for the first time in 5 years my habit was discovered and I had to share pancakes. The guilty part about this is that for 5 years I have been denying that I knew how to make pancakes and just doing all the washing up before they got home…
Amelia that sounds like heaven!!! And bad luck on your secret being discovered!
Mmmm it is sad. I may have to change my guilty pleasure answer as today’s would be sneaking out of the office to eat an ice cream instead of a salad for lunch but it’s 27 degrees in Oxford right now!
Another crisp sandwich fan here. The ultimate combination is crushed up hula hoops and dairy lee cheese! Lush! Oh and Lisa, my hubby loves 80s music, especially power ballads. I quite often find him watching the top 100 80’s songs on the music channel. Makes a nice change from sky sports I suppose!
All this talk of crisp sandwiches has made me so hungry! I like a ready salted crisp sandwich with a bit of dairy milk on the side.
You cannot beat those power ballads! Total Eclipse of the Heart/The Power of Love etc etc. Lol-ing at the image of your hubby. Completely agree, so much better than sky sports x
Mine is Neighbours! Every. Single. Day. And then when we’ve been away I get a massive binge on the episodes our box has recorded. Yes, I have it on series link!
And food wise, if I’m being naughty and starving when I get in I will go in the fridge and just cut off a massive hunk of cheddar and eat it. Luckily for my waistline that doesn’t happen all that often!
I love Nashville too! I’m a massive country music fan, something i kept quiet till Nashville came about and suddenly country music became cool! I often just listen to the albums in the car.
Don’t judge me but I love sausage roll with beans for a guilty pleasure lunch!!!
TV wise – Made in Chelsea for me – the holidays, the bags, their sparkling skin and all that fake drama… There was a great show on ages ago called Fabulous Homes by the Sea and yes it is as great as it sounds!
Ladies of London, anyone? An ITVBe reality special featuring lots of posh Brits & American wannabe Brits. Binge-watched it on mat leave. Totes amaze.
Current (non-guilty) fave is Fleabag. Brilliantly observed & darkly funny. Think Catastrophe but bleaker. On BBC iPlayer now. Cannot recommend enough. Only half hour episodes too.
[…] a really thoughtful gift ā the DVD of Ferris Buellerās Day Off (which I also mentioned in our Guilty Pleasures post last week ā do read the comments if you havenāt done so, they were just brilliant!). We used to […]
