Charlotte’s vision for Rock My Style was always to have several like-minded voices chatting about all things stylish. As you may have noticed recently you’ve had more than your fair share of moi banging about all things pretty and so we thought it was high time we threw another member into the mix. I can’t tell you how happy I am to welcome another lady to Team RMS, this time in the form of the very lovely Lisa. I’ve personally certified our newest recruit with the accolade of Best Fringe In The Rock My Empire and her fabulous taste in wallpaper gives our Lottie a run for her money.
I’ll hand over to Lisa and please do share the love in the comments box to welcome our latest team member.
Hello lovely RMS readers!
I first met the blog queen that is Charlotte O’Shea at NCT classes. When she told me about the Rock My Empire my initial reaction was… you have the coolest. Job. Ever. So you can imagine my excitement when she mentioned that there might be a job going spare at RMS.
Ever since I was little I have loved making my home look nice. I can remember being about ten years old and constantly drawing pictures, rearranging my bedroom and picking out flowery borders for the walls. Remember that, when borders were THE thing to do?!
Well I am still obsessed with all things interior design but thankfully my love of flowery borders has been replaced by a love of Scandi style and feature walls. My little family (lovely boyfriend Rich and two-year-old bundle of naughtiness and adorableness Lyra) and I recently moved into a new-build in a village in the West Midlands and I am thoroughly enjoying every minute spent planning how each room should look. My ‘other’ job involves working part time in the legal sector which is endlessly interesting but just doesn’t give me that creative outlet. So you can see why I am ridiculously excited about a role with RMS.
I also love fashion, finding a bargain (hello Ikea hacks), and dancing round the kitchen on a Saturday morning with Rich and Lyra. I’m half Scottish and half Japanese, and am lucky enough to have lived in as far flung places as Saudi Arabia, Germany and Sydney. No wonder I have a thing for vintage maps.
Another confession I have to make…I know little to nothing about make up. So I am counting on you readers and my fellow RMS-ers to teach me a thing or two. (On that note, tune in on Friday when I will be snooping into the make up bags of Lauren, Lolly and Charlotte).
Looking forward to getting stuck in to the fabulous world of RMS.
Lots of love, Lisa x
Welcome to the team Lisa! And yes, instant fringe envy… ?
Hee hee thanks Becky! X
Hello Lisa!
I like you already, speaking mainly as a fellow fringe enthusiast. Also, can I ask did you name Lyra after the Philip Pullman Lyra? If you did then I like you even more.
Very much looking forward to hearing more from you. xx
Hi Karen! Gotta love a fringe 🙂 Yes we did indeed name her Lyra after the character in the Philip Pullman books, they’re brilliant aren’t they. Her personality is quite similar to the Philip Pullman’s Lyra too 🙂 X
I have to admit that Lyra was on our shortlist for a girl too – both Ste and I love the Northern Lights trilogy and Lyra is definitely one of my girl heroines so I adore the fact you’ve called your little girl after her. Welcome on board lovely Lisa – it’s one exhilarating ride!
Aaah, it was on our shortlist too! Beautiful name and a fierce namesake. I love that she’s living up to it already ❤
I love those books so much. Imagine how magical it’ll be when you can read them to her. Xx
Yey team Lyra! When she was born Rich’s sister bought her a copy of Northern Lights signed by Philip Pullman. Can’t wait to read it to her. X
OMG what an amazing gift!! x
I know, so thoughtful! X
Hello lovely Lisa! I can assure you your makeup bag will soon be bursting. I too had no clue and barely wore any and now I find myself constantly purchasing. Being on this team is an expensive business but all in the name of research obviously!
It’s nice to know I’m not the only one Lottie! Eek looking forward to it x
Hello Lovely Lisa, welcome to the team xxx
Thank you lovely Lorna! X
Very excited to read your posts Lisa! Particularly the Ikea hacks!! xx
p.s. I DO remember when floral borders were an actual thing, in fact I can picture the one that adorned my walls right now….
Aw thank you Emma. I’m excited to write them!
I don’t know about your floral borders but mine were fetching blue daisy ones from Next…can remember them vividly. Hee hee X
Oh My goodness I just clicked on the NCT link, I can’t believe how tiny they were! ?
Just shed a little tear…..can’t believe it’s been over two years, doesn’t time fly when you are having fun (and chasing after tornado toddlers) x
I know Charlotte…it really took me back reading your post again. It’s unbelievable how much they change in such a short space of time xx
Hi Lisa – welcome to RMS from a fellow fringe devotee! 😉
Absolutely nothing against Lisa but can I ask – would it make sense if Rock My Style became Rock My Home? It seems to be incredibly interiors focused these days…. I for one miss the mix with travel, cookery, fitness / wellness pieces etc…. while there are still the odd few makeup & fashion pieces it’s mainly home stuff which as a renter with little scope for completely redecorating rooms of my house I find pretty disheartening….. 🙁
Thanks Bryony 🙂 hope you aren’t having the flyaway fringe issues that I’m having this morning!
I know that in the response to the RMS survey a lot of readers said they wanted to see more Home stuff which I think is why there is more of a focus on interiors these days. However I’m sure we could do a post on interiors specifically aimed at people who rent? I know it can be a nightmare when you want to make your home look pretty but don’t want to put holes in the walls etc x
Hi Bryony,
Sorry to hear you’re disheartened by our content. As Lisa mentions the feedback from our survey was that interiors were a huge favourite (by a country mile) followed by beauty and fashion which is why you will always see these three features included in our weekly schedule. The majority of our readers surveyed fed back they were homeowners which is why we’ve focused less on the rental market however we’ll be sure to address this in the future. x
Thanks for the responses, I just think that Rock My Style probably isn’t the site for me anymore… If I wanted to look at interiors everyday I’d check those kind of sites… I just miss the old mix of features but I am obviously the anomaly. I do think that a name change would be a good idea though – or a separate Rock My Home site as you seem to have enough content to do a piece on interiors every single day! Just not of interest to me……
Hi Lisa! Would love to see how you’ve put your stamp on a new build. We moved into our new build about a year ago and I’m finding it a challenge. There’s a lack of any quirky/period features in the home and all the walls are water-soluble paint in magnolia!
Hi Sarah! Yes these have been my problems too! My answer to the stark white walls has been to put in feature walls and use Ikea picture ledges (which Mrs O’Shea recommended to me and I know the RMS team love…http://rockmystyle.co.uk/wall-to-wall/). I will hopefully be showing you my home in one of our home tours soon 🙂 x
Welcome to the team Lisa 🙂 really looking forward to seeing more things from you on RMS x
Thanks Fern 🙂 I literally cannot wait x
Man, half Scottish, half Japanese? Thats an incredible mix. I’m really looking forward to reading your pieces Lisa. It’s so heartwarming to see the Rock My Team expanding. 🙂
Ahh thank you Naomi what lovely comments 🙂
I’ve been a big fan of Rock My everything since I met Charlotte so I am obviously uber excited to be joining the team x
Hi Lisa!
I’m very excited to read your posts about decorating a new build. We moved into one last year and the magnolia walls are already offending my eyes!! Inspiration please 🙂
I will be happy to oblige Katie! X
Hi Lisa! I loved reading that you were half Japanese / half Scottish. What a glorious mix!
Hee hee thanks Karen. I have to say I don’t think I have ever met another half Japanese/half Scottish person (apart from my brother!) x
You go sissy! xx
Thank you sissy ?
Hi Lisa!
I just thought I had better forewarn you about the enabling that goes on within these pages. I just nipped out for a sandwich and ended up face down in the 3 for 2 make up offers in boots thanks to all the amazing RMS recommendations! If you think you know nothing about make up now, you will literally BE Bobbie Brown by the end of the week ?Xxxxh
Ha this did make me giggle! I am already a victim of the enabling that takes place on here, believe me! X
Welcome Lisa! I’m really looking forward to seeing your home – I do love scandi style. Also really hoping that in your upcoming beauty post there is some advice on foundation? I have just finished my Nars Sheer Glow and would love some recommendations on what else to try. 🙂
You are in luck Rose ? join us on Friday x
Rose I am a big Sheer Glow fan but I think I may have found something I like even more – as Lisa says tune in on Friday to find out xx
Welcome Lisa. I too am looking forward to seeing how you’ve decorated your new build. My Dad is currently wrestling with the hollow interior walls trying to put up a IKEA bathroom cabinet for me. It’s already involved at least two trips to Homebase for more supplies!
Thanks Sarah 🙂 Bless your dad! I seem to remember Rich having the same issue with our bathroom cabinets, he has just reliably informed me that plasterboard wall plugs are the answer, if that is any help x
Hiiiiiii Lisa! *waves*
No fringe banter from me I’m afraid, just wanted to say welcome and can’t wait to hear more from you!
Katie xx
Thanks Katie…*waves back* x
Very excited for your posts Lisa!!
Love that the team is growing and filling my life with gorgeous things and loads of inspiration.
X
Me too Stacy. You RMS readers are such a lovely lot! X
Great Lisa! Happy that you have found a fantastic opportunity to express your wonderful creativity. Go my girl!!
Thank you mum ?
Supporting you all the way Lisa! ? X X
Thanks lovely xx
I too am a Lisa with a fringe! Hellooo! I can’t wait to see what you have to share on then home decor front, I like Scandi style but never manage to quite get the look going on, so Am intrigued to see your ideas. I’m already too excited about the makeup bag post – I’m so envious of your new cool job….and outfit, which I suspect may be the cord dress from Topshop that Lollie posted about?… If so, I’ve just bought it. You RMS lot are making me poor and now I think you may require me to get an Ikea family card too.
Ha ha Lisa it is indeed the new cord dress that Lolly posted about, such a suits-all style – I REALLY want one but have bought so much recently I just can’t justify purchasing anything else….well, at least until payday 🙂
Hey fellow Lisa-with-a-fringe! Yes you have Lolly to blame for that. Unfortunately when you try it on you will realise that you also need it in all the other colours! X
I concur!
I bought that dress Charlotte but had to return it 🙁 It looked nowhere near as good as it does on Lisa!
I convinced my husband that it would be sold out soon, so I had to have it on his pay day (before mine). It worked, can’t wait for it to turn up. You could try that tactic Charlotte…and it helps if your bat eyelashes too! Plus as a mum of a 15 month old, I think he’s just happy I may get my legs out of my practical jeans. You gorgeous mummies are definitely a style inspiration.
Ha ha good work Lisa! Xx
Haha, it is such a great dress. Half of our office have it but all in different colours so its totally allowed if we all wear them on the same day.
Looking forward to hearing lots from you Lisa. Ikea hacks are a huge fave 🙂
Thank you Amanda 🙂
LOVE the dress and am not surprised half your office have it. I’ve just noticed the pink one which was out of stock is now back in stock…yey! x
