{Ingredients}
- 200g unsalted butter
- 280g caster sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 400g plain flour
- a pinch of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Royal icing or sugar paste

{Method}
- Preheat oven to 170c/Gas mark 3
- Place the butter, sugar and vanilla extract in a freestanding mixer with a paddle attachment (or use an electric whisk) and mix until light and fluffy. Add the egg and mixx well.
- Add the flour, salt and cream of tartar and mix until it forms a dough. Be careful not to overmix.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut out any desired shapes.
- Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper and place in the oven for 10 minutes. Keep checking as you want the biscuits to be lightly golden on the edges and paler in the middle.
- Leave to cool slightly on the tray and then place on a wire rack to cool completely.
- To decorate the biscuits roll out the sugar paste and cut out shapes using the same cutters you used for the biscuits. Use a small dab of water on the back to adhere it to the biscuit. Or use royal icing if preferred.
- Add any colours or messages using stamps, edible pens, colours or petal dusts.

Ooooo these are pretty. LOVE the metallic painting – how do you do that? edible pens of edible paint?
I’ve been pretty lax this year and not made anything! (Bad Becca!)
We don’t really do Valentine’s gifts…
But I will be rustling up a yummy breakfast of Croissants with parma ham and Dolcelatte cheese (warmed up in the oven for the perfect gooey cheese)! It’s a breakfast my friend introduced me to a few years ago & is now my go to for a indulgent Saturday morning treat.
Oh and this will be served with glasses of Raspberry lemonade! Yay!
Even more exciting though is our dinner plans – we’re off to a place called The Pudding Stop! Yes a restaurant that specialises in puddings! We’re having 2 courses, first up a sharing Tunworth cheese followed by an incredibly yummy pudding each! What more could you want?!
Happy Valentine’s everyone xxx
I need to know about this Pudding stop Rebecca! My husband is on a stag do (who arranges a stag do on Valentines day!) so I shall be eating all the biscuits to myself! The colours and the gold glittery bits are petal dust which you can get from cake shops and pretty sure a lot of supermarkets have them nowadays. Just mix with a teeny bit of vodka, or water, then paint away xx
