Our Favourite Rainbow Pieces {And Why I Love Holly Willoughby}

Author: Lisa Soeno

Can we just take a minute to talk about my current girl crush, Holly Willoughby. I don’t know when she became a fashion icon, but in my eyes she’s up there amongst the likes of the Alexa Chungs, the Kate Mosses and the Sienna Millers of this world.

The reasons why I heart Holly are twofold.

Firstly, she’s the quintessential girl next door. When she and Phillip Schofield get the giggles live on TV it takes me right back to GCSE English when my best mate and I are being told off for laughing but this just makes the hysteria even worse. And you just know that on a night out, Holly would be the one pouring you another glass of prosecco when really you should be thinking about the last train home.

And reason number two is this: RAINBOWS.

Yes, Holly seems to share my love of rainbow-fashion. Search the internet for ‘Holly Willoughby’ and one of Google’s suggestions will be ‘Holly Willoughby rainbow dress’, referring to an Ashish sequinned mini dress that she wore for the Jonathan Ross show, promptly causing the piece to sell out, despite its £1,405 price tag. And when she posted a pic of herself on Insta in a head-to-toe rainbow tracksuit by Madeleine Thompson it got liked 170,000 times. (I reckon part of the reason for Holly’s rise to fashion-icon-status may be the fact that she posts a photo of her outfit on Instagram every day. She even poses in front of a blinkin’ rainbow print).

I’ve rounded up some of her rainbow picks below, plus some purse-friendly options for us mere mortals.

Shop The Rainbow {Holly Willoughby Style}

It’s thanks to Holly that I became aware of Wyse London after she wore their slouchy charcoal cashmere jumper. It’s a company that was set up by a half French lady who spotted a gap in the market for affordable but still covetable cashmere. And they have a collection dedicated to all things rainbow! John Lewis stocks them so you know they’re gonna be good.

Shop The Rainbow Jumpers {Mere Mortal Style}

Reason why I love Holly number 673. As good as she looks in a designer number, she’s also partial to the great British high street and is just as likely to be seen in a New Look roll-neck as she is a sparkly Ashish A-line. I reckon she would thank me for putting together the following picks.

Shop The Rainbow Tees and Trinkets

I practically lived in my rainbow maternity tee when I was pregnant with Jenson. Asos don’t seem to stock it any more but Urban Outfitters do a near-identical, non maternity, version. And if you’re looking for prezzies for colour-lovers then one of the trinkets below may be just the ticket.

If you were hoping to read an interiors post today then sorry about that, but here’s a link to the rainbow print that Miss Willougby poses in front of for her insta shot every day. The store that sells the print is a veritable treasure trove of contemporary art and a good number eleven to add to Lauren’s recent Ten Stores for Affordable Art post.

Would you rock a rainbow? Does anyone else heart Holly?

  1. Lisa,

    I love everything about this post! Holly and 🌈 ‘s are two of my current favourite things!!

    I’m NOT happy that you have MADE me buy this Boden jumper though….

    Susan x

  2. Fellow HW superfan here Lisa! And I also love a good rainbow. There’ll be a few purchases resulting from this post I fear. And I’ve always wondered where that print is from on Holly’s Insta posts! I’ll be buying that too… 😁🌈

  3. I love lovely Holly Willoughb00by. Although her recent weight loss makes her style a little less achievable for curvy size 12 me! I bought a gorgeous blue/silver/elcetric blue animal print brocade dress this weekend from Hobbs that she was papped in. I might have to get a rainbow jumper – it’s a lot of colour for me but nto too far from my usual love of stripes!

    1. ‘Holly Willoughby weight loss’ was another of google’s suggestions!

      You have to send us the link to this dress, it sounds all sorts of amazing. X

  4. This takes me right back to my teenage years 😄 I was a big fan of the rainbow look. I remember rocking a corduroy skirt with knee high rainbow socks, a bomber style jacket with rainbow stripes down the sleeves and a plastic beaded rainbow choker necklace. I have cringed over the photos many times but am somehow tempted again.

  5. I am usually one for a more neutral palette, but this post is making me want to open ALL the tabs. I foresee rainbow in my future. I do also love a bit of Holly (who doesn’t?).
