My wardrobe could be described as “classic” in that there is a vast array of navy, black and yes you guessed it grey. Easy mix and match pieces that I don’t have to give too much thought to in terms of what goes with what. Of late however I’ve been tempted to describe it as well, a little drab if I’m honest.
A splash of marl does absolutely zero for my pale central-heating-chapped epidermis. And with that in mind, I’ve been treating myself to a few colour pop knitwear pieces to brighten things up a bit.
The Bargain – Cardigan H&M £9.99
As I’m writing this I can’t see the bubblegum pink that I’m wearing in the header image above or the minty green that I purchased in store online, however this coral is lovely – paired with jeans as per the model or with a floaty maxi dress come summer. Anyway, for less than a tenner you can afford to have ALL the colours right?
My Favourite – Jumper Boden £49.50
I used to own a sherbet lemon hued jumper about 10 years ago which I LOVED. It was cheap and cheerful and essentially just ended up resembling a dishrag after several washes so had to be binned unfortunately. THIS “easy lightweight” number is lush. And it’s not too short – it finishes low on the hip. I am such a fan I’m also considering the Rose Quartz (also, I know they have a little bit of grey on but surely that’s not classed as cheating right?)
The Sexy One – Jumper ASOS £30.00
I love a bit of a shoulder flash me. And I know this isn’t exactly erm…the brightest shade on the block (ok ok so I am cheating a bit already) but I don’t currently own anything cream and I do love the detailing on this cable stitch design from ASOS.
The Longline – Cardigan Vila £22
This longline cardigan is light and a bit swishy AND the prettiest shade of blue. I can also wear it with all of the monochrome items that are taking over the inside of my closet right now.
The Ladylike One – Jumper Warehouse £40
The lace collar makes this dusky pink jumper perfection for me. I’ve recently bought my favourite Free People pleather skirt in the shade ahem “Smoke Grey” and this is the ideal accompaniment.
The Cocoon – ASOS £32
This is the first time I’ve owned this “Cocoon” shape of cardigan and I like it. A LOT. You can literally throw it on top of pretty much everything when it’s chilly. For that reason I have the Khaki Green although the dusky pink version is very pretty indeed.
Also, with this months copy of ELLE magazine you can have yourself a 20% discount card at ASOS so you may even be able to justify both shades?
The Reversible One – HUSH £69.50
Ha! See what I did there? Yes, you can turn this coral fineknit complete with palm tree motif into a “safe” pale grey should the mood take you.
What shades and hues are you lusting after this Spring? Do leave links to recent purchases in the comments box below, and yes even if it’s black or navy or grey, you are allowed to share 🙂
Boden knit is now reduced so everyone should definitely buy two!
I LIVE in black and grey so the most ‘colour’ you’ll see me wearing at the moment is khaki or perhaps a Breton stripe. It is a blue one rather than black…
Currently planning my holiday capsule wardrobe which is also black, grey, khaki, white and striped but I might throw in a splash of red to perk things up a bit ?
(I did the whole capsule thing last year and it was a GAME CHANGER)
Whaaaaat?! Now I will have to buy ALL THE COLOURS!
I have this maxi dress you need Lynsey – it’s £20 from ASOS and is mainly navy but with a small amount of white and yellow floral print….I feel it’s pretty/summery without being too far away from my usual colour scheme! x
I love a good maxi dress. You’ll need to send me a link.

Go down a size as they come up quite big x
Oooh Charlotte this dress is lush!
Isn’t it Kelly! I’m hoping they do more colours in the same style, it’s lose-ish without being tent-like so super comfortable to wear too….hmmm, maybe I need to do a summer wardrobe post 🙂 x
Yes loving this. I’ve currently got about 26 asos tabs open which kind of defeats the purpose of a capsule wardrobe but there are too many nice things!
Oh bloody hell, now I need this dress too. Far more exciting than buying light bulbs which are currently in my other online basket…
Totally jumping on the band wagon! That is so BEAUT!
The more the merrier! ??
This whole thread is hilarious! Let’s have a party round mine and we can all wear the same dress 🙂 x
Loved the Boden jumper and have just ordered the bright pink one! Can you do an article now on shoes for Spring (day wear). Im sick of boots now. xx
Glad to enable Fiona! It’s funny you should say that…I am in need of some new shoes, I’ll do some investigating! x
It’s the transition from winter boots to summer flats. Something in between thats comfy. X
Love the H&M cardi, i have it in black (for work) and it washes brilliantly. I am just about to leave my office job and start working from home to try and achieve a better family/work balance so I am now planning a whole ‘working from home spring/summer wardrobe’ xxx
Congratulations on your new adventure Mrs D! I think you should definitely treat yourself to the coral/pink/minty version as it washes so well 🙂 x
Ooo, Mrs D – I’m about to do something similar. Good luck with your plans! Pretty please, RMS people – how about a “working from home” post?
YES Denise. Excellent call. I was out to dinner with Lauren and another friend on Saturday and it came up in conversation on numerous occasions x
Oooh I was just thinking how my spring capsule needed a non grey long card – the ASOS dusky pink one with enliven my many grey/ black/ white tops and go perfectly with my new patterned H&M trews. Though my wardrobe is starting to look more shipping container than capsule

Rachel this made me Laugh Out Loud! Mine is totally beginning to resemble a shipping container 🙂
Also the ASOS Cocoon is ace, I love my Khaki one so much I’m very tempted to buy the pink also!…erm, one extra item for my shipping container x
I did the only decent thing and spent an hour filtering some stuff to the charity pile. Much more fun than waiting my dissertation and makes room for the 3 new zara tops in my basket awaiting payday
I saw the new Zara collection yesterday and immediately sent Lauren a link to a dress she needs! I was very well behaved for myself but did buy Mabel a new coat, shoes and a cute rucksack……..x
Love love love Zara kids and very much missing have a child young enough to wear my choice of clothes. My 9 year old offers a withering look at most of my suggestions!
Oh dear, I have just bought 3 cardigans from H & M, the maxi dress from ASOS, then thought a white cardi would look cute over the dress, so went back to the H & M website and procured ANOTHER cardi !
….and for good measure, I have bought the Cocoon cardi from ASOS !
Charl…I have also bought 2 pairs of the Tulsi boots from Free People 🙂
Zara have a lovely crew neck in loads of colours…only £20. I bought quite a few, as they go with everything.
Please can I get some ideas on dresses – ones to wear with tights and without..?
I love RMS !
Ashu is it wrong that I’m secretly proud I have main you buy so many things?! I think I have the crew jumpers you are on about….I have black, navy and charcoal…see what I mean about needing to add some colour?!
Do you own a dent dress yet? You need one, good with tights and boots (Tulsi, obvs) but also flats in summer. Lolly did a “day dress” post a few days ago that had lots of lovely things – also pinafores are really popular at the moment x
Gah! I need that ASOS off the shoulder number.
Well, I actually don’t need it at all. It’s completely impractical for my day to day attire (office environment) and I already have a strong knitwear section of my wardrobe. But it is gorgeous…
Oh charlotte you were right about the cocoon…. How nice would it be in grey though???
I have so many “to buy items” thanks to this blog!! You guys make clothes shopping so much easier & more fun. With 2 kids under 3 let’s face it I greatly value any enabling. Even if my bank account doesn’t. Already on my list is a dress very similar to the maxi dress Charlotte recommended & it’s only £18! Will be perfect for summer vacays

[…] know what you’re thinking, summer? already?! Didn’t you just tell us all what spring knitwear to invest in seemingly five minutes ago? Yes folks. Yes I did. But I also booked a last minute […]
[…] though Charlotte’s post about colourful knitwear was definitely about colourful knitwear, there followed much discussion in the comments about navy […]
