About five years ago I was thumbing through my Christmas edition of Ideal Home and clapped my eyes on an absolutely gorgeous country farmhouse. The owners had a sumptuous velvet chesterfield and a huge island unit in the kitchen but personally I was blown away by the dove paper garland hanging over the bath. That’s right the homeowners had decked out the bathroom for Christmas.

When house-buying I’ve heard people say they realise they’ve fallen hook, line and sinker for a property when they decided where they’ll put their Christmas tree. When I viewed our cottage for the first time I wasn’t just working our where the Norwegian Spruce would go but also if the bathroom was worthy of a few of its own decorations. Thankfully it was.

So here you have it, my bathroom subtly made over for Christmas with a heap of honeycomb balls and paper snowflakes. It’s possibly the last time you’ll see the bath with a mint coat as a mini make-over is afoot in the new year. The majority of the balls are from eBay and Wilko but you can pick them up all over the place. I hang with fishing wire from a Command Mini Hook. The lanterns originally hung from the rafters of the barn in our wedding venue.

So this brings me on to ask you if there are any non-conventional areas in your own home that see a sprinkle of glitter, a festoon of fairly lights or a cheeky santa? Most of us decorate our living room and dining able but do you trim up your kitchen or bedrooms to celebrate the festive season?
