Despite this weekend’s downpours and gales, we’ve been blessed with some gorgeous weather this summer so it’s with a heavy heart that I’ve pulled together this feature. However now is the time I pop on my rose-tinted glasses and start thinking about how fabulous autumn is; candlelit evenings, burnished leaves and chunky knits.
Today’s fashion piece isn’t about thick jumpers though. Hopefully there are still several weeks of sunshine and shorts left so here are five pieces that you can enjoy now but should also serve you through September, October and beyond.
Pleated Midi Skirt, £35.00, Asos
All the rage during the summer, the pleated midi skirt you wore with a cami in July could be paired with a fitted shirt or thin jumper in the autumn. It’s good to know you can still swish around into the cooler months.
I’ve got my eye on this Asos number (that comes in camel, blue or red) but given my height I’m better off with this Dorothy Perkins petite version instead.
All-in-one, £25.00, F&F
They’ve been around for ages but a jumpsuit, rompersuit, catsuit whatever you want to call it is a perfect staple for your wardrobe. Who doesn’t love buying one piece instead of two or more separates? They were everywhere this summer so buy a darker colour and it’ll see you right through to the first snow!
While buying a loaf of bread in Tesco recently, this all-in-one from F&F made it into my basket too.
Deconstructed Trench, £59.99, Zara
I know it’s too early to start thinking about your winter coat but sadly it’ll be time to cover the arms very soon.
I am loving this deconstructed lightweight trench from Zara, short at the front and long at the back. Flowy and long line blazers are a great shout too.
Lightweight Sweater, £29.99, Mango
Dropped shoulder seams are still around this autumn and this little long-sleeved number could be worn with shorts on a balmy evening. Obviously there are multiple uses over the next few months; combining with skirts, jeans or wool trousers too.
The silver thread in this Mango sweater adds a subtle nod to the metallic trend that will apparently be huge for AW14/15.
Ankle Boots, £85.00, Kurt Keiger
A boot in a soft shade looks super cute with a little floaty dress for the remainder of the summer. When the cooler weather sets in they also look stylish paired with your jeans, skinny trousers or thick tights. Kurt Keiger’s playful tassel version in taupe get my vote.
What have you been buying recently? Any updates that will take you through to autumn? Ooh and who else got slightly excited putting on a jumper/tights/parka etc yesterday?

Love these choices Lauren, would a pleated skirt this length suit someone with short legs?!
I need the Zara jacket.
I did feel a bit ‘Nan’ when I tried on a pleated skirt for normal sized people. The DP petite one seems much more in proportion for vertically challenged peeps like myself x
I really like the pleated midi skirt- good spot!
Pleats are so pretty aren’t they Rebecca? I really like the blue version x
