I adore Spring but I can find this time of year a huge tease when it comes to clothing. The shops are fit to bursting with gorgeous new season fashions but it’s not yet quite warm enough to enjoy sleeveless blouses and cotton shorts. (Will someone please bring back the weather we had last weekend?!)
Culottes and Bermuda Shorts are meant to be making a comeback in the Summer but for now we’ll just mention five very wearable wardrobe updates to get you through this unreliable weather.

Anything Pastel
Remember our interiors post a few weeks ago? The same goes for your garments and accessories too.
Super cute knits in fondant fancy shades are in every single shop at the moment. Topshop have a particularly good selection with mesh and lace detailing aplenty. On the jacket front opt for an oversized cocoon like this one from ASOS or a biker jacket in a sugary hue.
The Boyfriend Jean
The lower waist and slouchier leg makes the Boyfriend Jean more comfy than your skinnies. They are massively versatile though and look great with flats or skyscrapers. Team with a fashionable slogan tee for a day look or a tailored jacket for a smarter occasion.
Double denim is apparently very acceptable these days so feel free to team up with your chambray shirt too!
The Breton Striped Top
A timeless classic that will see you through every season and many an occasion. Combine your Breton Stripe with a bold orange lip to bring the look bang up to date.
The Shirt Dress
The trend for pinching men’s fashion detailing continues as this season it looks like we’ll be wearing collars and cuffed sleeves. The Shirt Dress is great for days when you need a bit of warmth on your arms. Admittedly you’re probably going to need to team with tights too.
Metallics
Get your shine on and add a dose of metallics to your wardrobe. Futuristic Gold and silver are cropping up in tops and bottoms this year but perhaps the easiest way to wear them is on your feet.
River Island’s cute pumps combine gemstones so you’ll be rocking the embellishment trend too.
Are you hitting the shops this weekend? What are you planning on adding to your Spring wardrobe?

{My Top Tip}
My favourite piece to layer under my threads is a Uniqlo HeatTech vest. They are basically super thin heat retaining inner wear. Perfect for those days when you really wish you hadn’t left your coat at home.

I need to start shopping for our trip to Japan…it will be hot in cities but cooler in the mountains and may be raining pretty heavily too! I’m stumped.
What an amazing trip you’re going to have Kitty. Lots of thin layers required I’d imagine x
Oh dear. All the pretty things! This is a poorly timed post, as it’s my payday. My bank manager is NOT going to be pleased…
We’re sorry Katie!
Ah, lots of love for this! Must got those pumps. And the Breton Stripe. And while I’m at it, need a new boyfriend jean too.
Roll.On.Payday.
Thanks Lauren, this is great! x
Thanks Sian! The pumps are lush aren’t they?! x
I can’t wait to splurge on some non-bump clothes! I have been toying with this whole pastel coat/jacket thing for an age but my husband just doesn’t like them…..he’s usually fairly laid back with clothes in general and likes what I wear but not a (gorgeous) pale pink coat I tried on in Topshop, he thought I was tying it to make him laugh (!!) oh dear!
However I do need some boyfriend jeans. DEFINITELY. And these H&M ones look super, has anyone else tried H&M jeans before? and can you wear this boyfriend shape/style if you have short legs or will they make them look…even shorter?!
The H&M ones weren’t available in my size when I went to buy boyfriend jeans so I ended up with Gap ones. They’re probably not true boyfriend style but they sit low on the hips and are ripped to shreds. I like them very much as they have an ankle grazer style for us shorter ladies 😉 I am currently experimenting with the size of my turn-up……
Oh my god, I live in boyfriend jeans, breton stripes and shirt dresses and I LOVE shiny things! Is this post especially for me??
I also have the Gap boyfriend jeans and they nice, quite a thick fabric though so if you prefer a more relaxed/flowy fit then they’re probably not for you.
PS I love that double denim is back 🙂
I LIVE in shirt dresses. All winter I’ve rotated a selection of plaid ones, and looking forward to switching to some light-weight ones for summer. Who knew I was FASHIONABLE!
I am still yet to venture into the land of shirt dresses, I never find a design that is flattering on me, they look fab on others though 🙁
Absolutely LOVE those River Island shoes – just gorgeous!
Think I’ll have to pick up a breton stripe top too 😉
