As Lauren mentioned in this post last week, with an end-of-November birthday I don’t tend to start thinking about Christmas until 1 December. However this year, with a couple of birthday celebrations in the diary (the first of which is next Friday), I’m looking for something sparkly to wear that will work for Christmas and New Year parties too. Yup, when it comes to party wear I make like a magpie, with my general rule being the shinier the better. I’m torn between a dress or a jumpsuit. Here’s five that have caught my eye…
Asymmetric Strap Jumpsuit, £69.99, Mango
Sparkly, sexy and a little bit Studio 54, this jumpsuit has got it ALL going on. Extra points for the cutout back.
You can buy it here
Sequin Dress, £29.99, Pull & Bear at ASOS
I usually like my dresses to have a bit of a sleeve but for this sequinned number with its square neck and low v-back I’m prepared to completely ignore my own rule. Rules, after all, are made to be broken.
You can buy it here
Glittery Jumpsuit, £29.99, H&M
The glittery jersey fabric gives this jumpsuit a pleasingly drapey look which, with the addition of pockets, means it manages to be casual but dressy all at the same time. Also those sandals…!
You can buy the jumpsuit here and the shoes here
Sequin Dress, £68, Topshop
As much as I like colour for daytime dresses, when it comes to party wear I frequently find myself to drawn to black. This sequinned dress from Topshop is on the simple side, but I figure that just means I’ll be able to wear it over and over again.
You can buy it here
Sequin Shift Dress, £79.99, Mango
Cap sleeves + a round neck + a v-back + shedloads of sequins = party perfection. My favourite.

What’s your party style? Spotted any sparkly dresses or jumpsuits I should check out? Thinking I might have to go braless if I went for the cutout back jumpsuit or the low v-back dresses. Thoughts? As ever, do share below!
I have a black sequin dress very similar to the Topshop one. I love it at Christmas time – only thing is when on the dancefloor swinging your arms around (as one does) you tend to scrape your arms on the sharp sequins. But… style over comfort… it isn’t an issue!
Haha, yep, I’m style over comfort too when it comes to party wear Victoria!
Wow, love the pull&bear dress. And such good value! But not sure I can get away without a bra, don’t want to do a Judy Finnegan…..
It is amazing value isn’t it, but, yes, there’s definitely potential for a wardrobe malfunction…
I just bought this dress from HoF: http://www.janenorman.co.uk/sequin-maxi-dress-3 which I’m justifying as my dress for my friend’s wedding and my Christmas party and my New Years Eve dress!!! I love it, an unusual colour especially as I’m usually in black! I love the sequins!
Ooh, fabulous Kate, love an asymmetric shoulder and very good value when you divide it between three events!
Wow, I’m especially loving the two Mango numbers! The jumpsuit is fab and I love the dress! Sadly I’m not brave enough to go bra less for the former and don’t have the legs to carry off the latter but if I could/did then then I’d be snapping at least one of those up. X
I’m not sure I’m brave enough either Emma! X
Oooo this reminds me, I have a wedding I need to get an outfit for! Eeek!
Better get shopping!
I did spot this cute sparkly number in M&S the other day (yup, M&S!!)
Sadly a little out of my budget currently but still – it’s sparkle & sleeves! win, win!

Eek, get thee to the shops Rebecca! Love, love, love the sparkly M&S dress. xx
I just bought this fab jumpsuit last week in House of Fraser http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Warehouse+Bandeau+Peg+Jumpsuit/206750281,default,pd.html
I was searching high and low and had pretty much this idea in my head, it fits perfectly! I got it for a 30th birthday on Saturday past which was black and white themed and teamed it with a white belt. I have a black and white Christmas Ball to go to and am desperately searching for black and white striped court heels – I saw the perfect pair in French Connection in the summer and stupidly didn’t buy them!
I just need some necklace bling to set it off for the Christmas season and planning to wear it for work’s Christmas do, Christmas Day and possibly even Hogmany!!! Oh and in January it’s my Dad’s 70th so it might come out then too. Now that’s what I call cost per wear! 🙂
That is a fab jumpsuit Lynn, love it, and very good cost per wear. Ooh and a belated happy birthday to you! x
Oh not my birthday hehe but thanks 🙂
I wish I was 30 again…. 38 approaching in a couple of months eek!
Ah, sorry, misread your comment Lynn!
