Rock My Style reader Rebecca (and former RMW Real Bride) is the proud owner of a super soft and stylish Biba feather cape and would like our help to ruffle her feathers during the party season.
@RockMyStyleBlog Help! Desperately want a party outfit that goes with my petrol black #BIBA cape – any ideas?! x
The lovely Rebecca is a frequent commenter on RMS so we feel it’s only right to help her out with the Christmas party dilemma submitted to us via Twitter.
To see the cape in question, please take a little look at the ‘shop the post’ section at the bottom of the feature. Unfortunately I couldn’t find an image large enough to slot into our slider above.
Maxi
For the ultimate party outfit you can’t go wrong with a sequin maxi. I haven’t seen this Dorothy Perkins one in real-life but it looks very similar to ones I’ve seen for three times the price.
For the greatest impact it may be an idea to contrast the feathers with a sexy bit of shoulder. When I was researching this post I found an image of a blogger wearing a vivid red sleeveless maxi paired with the feather cape. You can pick up a similar one from Warehouse.
Midi
With such a glam accessory I’m tempted to suggest playing it down with a super stylish long sleeved dress. I’d always plump for a black version such as this long sleeved frock from Mango (with subtle embellishment if the cape does come off during the evening). However Boohoo have a ridiculously bargainous forest green midi for the tiny price of £10. I’m sure a deep merlot red colour would also make a fab combination too.
Sequins
The cape has a very subtle emerald and blue shimmer so if Rebecca really wanted to make a statement then how about combining with this very snazzy sequinned number from Asos. or if that’s too short you could go more demure with a Miss Selfridge pencil skirt and a plain top.
Detail
If you’d prefer not to wear a dress, then how about wearing smart slim black pants with an embellished top instead such as this metallic yarn cami from Oasis? If heavy detailing all seems a bit too much then you could choose a black lace cami with detail along the hem for a more subtle combination.
Now it’s over to you lovely ladies to unleash your inner Gok. How would you style this pretty plumage into a fun and dramatic outfit?

I have the ivory version (had it for my wedding last year) and would love the opportunity to wear it again, might just wear it today whilst working from home…It is the most fabulous thing ever and I felt so glamorous in it!
Love the sequinned skirt and dress ( how I ended up in a sparkle free wedding dress is beyond me!) I am such a magpie
I have visions of you sat with super comfy bottoms and an ultra luxurious top. Love it! X
Vicky I wore this one to my wedding!
A feather cape should ALWAYS be worn with one’s wedding dress! haha
Also, I’m with you on the sparkly dress – I’ve recently seen a dress I would’ve died to wear on my day! Just typical! haha
Hope you have that feather cape on! x
Rebecca, absolutely agree a feather cape is needed with a wedding dress! I saw it on a RMW real wedding, loved it and stalked it on the HoF website until it went out of stock, sulked and then got on ebay. Ignoring my mum’s suggestions of a nice wrap ( I bought a beautiful cream one with tonal paisley on it to pacify her), my dress NEEDED feathers!!
I did try on a few sparkly ones but in the end fell in love with the lalique lace on the Charlie Brear one I wore, which had nothing form my list of must haves!
I did just put it on for a bit, but it looked especially mental with an oversized lumberjack shirt and no make up but it was surprisingly warm!! maybe I’ll put it one over Christmas or I need a more wintery one!! xxx
Who knew I needed a green sequin dress? Well now I do, can’t believe I haven’t spotted this one on ASOS already?!
Rebecca I vote that one – it would be SUPER glamorous with the cape!
Also, such a festive hue no?
🙂 x
Thanks RMS team 🙂
Charlotte – am definitely loving the green sequins! But also quite like the red maxi!!…..Off to the shops I pop!
I remember when I bought it the shop assistant said she often just wore it with jeans & a tee – haven’t quite mastered this look myself – always look a little crazy (well crazier than normal!!)
xx
Glad you like the suggestions Rebecca. Make sure you pop back to let us know what you end up wearing x
