If you read my “introducing colour” feature some months ago you will know that I was keen to incorporate a selection of hues in our new forever home.
Unfortunately it’s all gone rather 50 shades of bloody grey. I have a bit of blush going on in the living area and coral in Mabel’s bedroom but aside from that I seem to be unable to make a decision. Or at least find accessories and soft furnishings in shades that I am willing to commit to.
Instead I find myself introducing various metallics, it seems I am still very much a fan of copper (there was a stage when due to being all over Pinterest I assumed I should move onto something else – eyeroll at myself here folks) and I’m not adverse to a glimmer of gold or shiny silver. Admittedly I’m never going to be a huge fan of rose gold. I know it photographs well and I use it for various styling projects but it’s just…not my bag. Typically it seems that all the pieces I want often come in rose gold or….yep you guessed it, rose gold.
I am yet to find a suitable hanging place for my favourite copper mirror but my brass globe is currently looking lovely on top of a chest on my landing. I am also coveting this stunning lamp but can’t think of a suitable space for it.
On my dressing table I have inadvertently introduced all sorts of magpie-type items including this set of bangles (obsessed), “French” hair grips (admittedly for Mabel but I seem to have stolen them) and various brushes from the Real Techniques Bold Metals collection. I know I know I own a lot of brushes that I recommend but I can honestly say that the powder, blusher and angled eyeliner from this range are my favourite. Super soft and they offer amazing application of product, I reach for them every morning.
For James’s birthday I purchased Mabel, he and I marble alphabet coasters from Oliver Bonas, they look lush on our coffee table and of course prevent unsightly tea stains and whatnot (I am often bollocked by him indoors for dumping my hot cup on any manner of surface at any time, I am still blaming baby brain but realistically I don’t think I can use that excuse now my daughter is 3 years old).
Win A Treat For Your Drinks Trolley
Last but not least I have this rather fabulous cocktail tool set (seen in the slider above) to give away, unfortunately it simply doesn’t fit on my kitchen shelving along with everything else but I feel as though someone should have it, so perhaps that someone is you? We’ll pick a winner at random from commenters on this post. Enter before midnight on Friday 2nd of June to be in with a chance.
Are you a lover of metallics? Do you feel there is is too much copper everywhere? Does pinterest make you become bored of your own interiors every few months?!
Oooh love those coasters Charlotte and the John Lewis lamp! 🙂
Nicola I though the coasters were a bargain for the quality – and they make lovely gifts x
I’m with you on the rose gold front – I just can’t get on board with it! Very bad for mixing metals in a room too, but surely there’s no rule that says you can’t right?! The cocktail set is beautiful! I’d love to have it in my home, although I fear it may be more decorative than anything else for a while as my 12 week old is making time for cocktail making absolutely feel like a thing of the past! x
I don’t think there are rules Rebecca and if there are I’m breaking them (!) x
I’m in love with the cocktail tool set! Luke you, a little bored of the rose gold trend now, but copper will go perfectly in my new kitchen. Also love the bangles and hair clips, great for festival season…
I love all the shiny things! Need to stay away from the iPad today I feel as we’re on a saving money drive
I love all things shiny! I’m the same as you though. I don’t want to commit to a colour as I know it will be out of fashion by the time I use it, and therefore my place will look out of date. We just got a new bar cart in our dining room and now need to fill it with lovely accessories 😉
Love this post. I in fact have that exact same mirror following a previous recommendation of yours! I too love a metallic interiors accessory and don’t always stick to the same “colour” although I do love a bit of copper… have some fab copper picture frames and giant floor lamp in our lounge and this cocktail set would fit right in #justsaying 😉
Oh Nicky what floor lamp do you have? I’m considering a copper one for the living room. The mirror is lush – still the nicest one I’ve seen x
We have this lamp from Cox and Cox http://www.coxandcox.co.uk/elba-copper-floor-lamp – Really do love it so highly recommend it!
On a side note, would love to add colour to my grey and blush home – am a little in love with an emerald green velvet sofa but not quite sure how to work that one in without entirely redecorating!! x
Thanks Nicky – will take a look, I bloody love Cox and Cox. I have my eye on all sorts of things at the moment x
I love the coasters too! I’m a big fan of metallics, there’s something about shiny things that gets me!
Trying to set up my own bar area! So the cocktail tool set would be a welcome addition!
I’ve been hunting for coasters for a while and these are perfect – I need 6 though and there only three of us! What other three could I buy?
I have a love/hate relationship with rose gold – I love the traditional copperish rose gold hue but hate the garish pink of some of the ‘rose golds’ around today
Completely with you on the colour thing – always feel like I ‘should’ be injecting more but can never seem to land on anything I really like. Metallics though! Yes definitely on board, I’m also a mix n matchy type. More interesting that way! That cocktail set is bloody gorgeous 🙂
I don’t look at Pinterest any more, I just need to get the house finished and then have a rest 🙂
Big fan of metallics here too. I totally need those hair clips. The coasters are beaut as well – but I need a Z and it’s out of stock! Hopefully it’ll come back in.
Also, I have those Real Techniques brushes and they really are very good. Initially I bought them purely for their appearance on my dressing table (shallow, I know), though I had heard good reports about the RT brushes anyway. I really rate the powder and blusher ones too, but I don’t have the eyeliner one. Maybe I need it? Though I think my next brush purchase is going to be the Chanel No 7 Blending Foundation Brush – hello duty free when I’m off on my travels next week! 😉
Tracy I bought the angled eyeliner brush first as managed to lose mine and this looked like the nicest one in Boots (!) It is literally the BEST one I’ve ever used so promptly bought the powder and blush brush from Look Fantastic (they usually have offers on) and they do look lovely on my dressing table. I have the travel set of RT brushes which are good but the quality of the bold metals range is exceptional – hence the difference in price I guess.
I am also going on a duty free spree in a few weeks, we will have to compare purchases 😉 x
Oh Charlotte, I am totally with you on the “copper is too popular, I shouldn’t like it anymore…” But I can’t help myself, it just fits with the rest of my (also 50 shades of grey….!) home so well.
Let us both hope it isn’t just a passing phase & we don’t fall out of love with it.
I’ve been looking for the perfect globe so am off to check this one out. And those coasters… 😍
Karen the globe is a must! Honestly – so chic for the price. I’m hoping I don’t fall out of love with grey – that would be a disaster. And VERY expensive (!) x
Oh god our house is all 50 shades of grey too! It’s just so….lovely. And easy. I like how you can introduce a colour via soft furnishings (cushions etc) to easily add to it. I love all the metals and am introducing in bits and bobs to our house, and definitely mixing them. I love a mix of metals – I wear alot of silver and gold jewellery together. And YES to that cocktail tool kit – perfect for the Kilner cocktail shaker I bought my husband (selfish present much?).
x
Sophie! I love a selfish present!!!!!
I LOVE a good metallic. So much so I can’t pick just one, but as I’m a big plain wall proponent (love a grey or a navy!) I don’t think that is a problem. When we moved into our current house it had an old brass hand rail instead of a bannister going up our staircase. I absolutely adore it and spent hours cleaning it and polishing it and getting it in tip top condition. We now have a brass floor lamp, a brass star ceiling light, copper pans (on display because copper pans…), brass and copper photo frames and some silver frames for our wedding photos because that’s what you do, right? Love this post and everything in it! X
Sian, what is this brass star light you speak of? and your bannister sounds absolutely immense. Very jealous indeed. x
Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OLD-VINTAGE-BRASS-11-POINT-STAR-CEILING-LIGHT-/302326625444?hash=item46641234a4:g:ubcAAOSwWWxY~ghW
They were all over our honeymoon hotel in Zanzibar and I’m obsessed with them, they’re so beautiful with a gorgeous warm bulb. They’re in our hallway at the moment I want to get them outside… somehow! X
Gorgeous! I always come away from holidays obsessed with something or other – I go in two weeks so who knows what part of Greece I’ll be trying to replicate in our country cottage (!) x
Ha!! love this post as I am the exact opposite – I would love to keep everything looking simple and sleek in hues of grey but it’s just not “me”. My home office started off with the best of intentions in Farrow and Balls “cornforth white” and then the colour exploded – jewel tones of green, blue, red, amethyst, coral and clashing prints everywhere – my wardrobe is exactly the same with hints of metallics.
I think your new home looks beautiful anyway Charlotte and I adore that you and Mabel are already sharing wardrobes 😉 xx
I was given the marble and copper coasters as a gift and LOVE them! But the cocktail tool set would be a fabulous addition to my bar cart 🙂 I love metallics but they haven’t crept into my home decor too much yet, I think this might prompt me to change that very soon… x
Oooh love all these bits, you can’t go wrong with metallic I say! I have been eyeing up those coasters for a while now and you have prompted me to buy them! The cocktail set is so lush too! xx
I cannot stay away from metallics, especially gold. I even spray paint things gold. Hooks, wine rack, brackets…. Love that cocktail set and am already imagining it in my house!
Ahhh I want that cocktail set!
Since having our little girl two and a half years ago, nights out with my husband are very, very rare indeed, so we try and make the most of evenings when she is in bed at the weekend and cook together, like we used to when we were dating.
At Christmas we got a few different spirits ect in to make cocktails and a cocktail book and now most weekends we take turns to pick a new drink and make it to drink while we are cooking…..!
Cocktails in my pjs…..what could be better!
Completely in love with the cocktail set – I went in to purchase it the other day and it was gone! Now I also want to invest in the copper mirror for my bathroom renovation too…uhoh!
Oh my goodness love this cocktail tool set, this would be so perfect for our gin bar in hopefully our new first home (fingers crossed it all works out) also going to have to buy these coasters now…definitely still a lover of metallics!
The cocktail tool set really is fabulous, it’s been on my ‘wish list’ since my amazing boyfriend got my a drinks trolley for Christmas. Would definitely take it to the next level 🙂
I too am obsessed with anything copper at the moment- I recently bought some of those alphabet Oliver Bonas coasters too! I also am loving the copper wire fairy lights that are around at the moment. Goes so well with grey! – another current colour obsession!
I too have an obsession with all things shiny! I bought the copper John Lewis mirror for my bedroom after seeing it in one of your posts, I love it and it goes so well with my jewellery boxes and trinkets from the Oliver Bonas collection… I’ve recently purcahsed a gold stand for my new record player from Urban Outfitters which is lovely. Next purchase is a drinks cart hopefully! The cocktail set is amazing x
Absolutely nothing wrong with fifty shades of grey! Just finished our kitchen renovation. The cabinets are grey. The marble – esq Silestone tops are an off grey with grey veining (not dissimilar to the coasters and plinth of the bar tools set!) and the flooring was supposed to be a contrast but ended up, yes you guessed it, grey! Eek! I’ve felt at a standstill with accessories but your RMS posts have continued to inspire me – already ordered some bits and pieces to.. ahem… recreate (*blatantly and unashamedly copy*) your gin shelf Charlotte (genius idea btw for those of us with little inquisitive hands preventing a lush trolley!) and this post on metallics has just given me my lightbulb moment – I’ve really struggled to think of a colour to introduce to the kitchen/ dining area and I’m thinking metallics would add that missing something! Thank you! X
Ooosh I need that cocktail set in my life!! I say embrace the grey on grey on grey! I have!
Crap I put my email address in wrong crap crap crap ^^^ above comment is me
I’m not sure my original post even went through. 🤦🏻♀️! Anyway yes to more grey! I must have that cocktail set for my booze cabinet (I’m still to convince husband that this needs painting grey)
I do love copper too and have the exact same relationship with rose gold! I have these coasters on our bedside table and love them! The cocktail set beautiful! Planning on redoing our living room as already bored of it and will plan in a drinks trolley!
Yes- I’m blaming Pinterest! Very addictive. Happy to know I’m not the only one and I can let the husband know he’s not alone! X
Ooooh shiney! I love it all! I find nkuku are an amazing retailer for metallic items in all manner of hues…gold, copper, brass. I will definitely be purchasing the coasters!
Love the copper! I’m currently planning the decor for the living/dining/kitchen area of my tiny flat as a new kitchen is finely going in and that mirror is just truly gorgeous (and the coasters….and the globe! *hides bank card) Also embracing the mixed metals and grey, it just looks so pretty. That cocktail set would be simply amazing to display and use, and would fit in perfectly. However tiny the room is there’s always room for prosecco and gin!
And don’t forget the shoes to match!

I love metallics too – they seem to go with every colour scheme! We’re about to move into our first unfurnished house so we can actually choose our own furniture and accessories rather than the suspect furniture in our current place – so exciting!
Love love all these bits and bobs, particularly the lamp and coasters. I’m planning an old copper tap in my renovated kitchen too so I guess you can say I’m also very much on the metallics trend!
Btw Charlotte, what is the blue/teal paint colour behind the cocktail set please? It’s a lovely shade, not too navy.
