This month I’ve mostly been trying not to max out my credit card on the latest collection from Sweaty Betty. An aside but did you see the Sweaty Betty x Richard Nicholl collab that was launched at London Fashion Week on Sunday? There’s a white sports bra and grey cardigan that have my name written all over them (not literally, obviously). I’m starting saving now ahead of the Spring/Summer 2015 launch. However, I have to admit that one (or maybe two) pieces of the current collection have made it home with me, including a super-cute pair of shorts that made it into this September’s Healthy Haul post…
More Of The Fit Woman’s Secrets by Lorna Jane Clarkson
Lorna Jane Clarkson is the founder of Australian activewear label Lorna Jane. She’s also the author of three books. In this (her second) she shares how she built her brand and her secrets for staying fit and healthy. It’s packed with advice, inspiration and positivity. There’s healthy recipes (for meals and beauty treatments!) and foodie information a plenty, motivating features such as 20 things successful people do differently, do anywhere workout plans, and endless tips to live Lorna Jane’s Move Nourish Believe Philosophy. One of those books I dip in and out of whenever I want a boost.
You can buy Lorna Jane products here (the books go in and out of stock so keep checking back for the next drop of More Of The Fit Woman’s Secrets)
Shakedown Workout Short, £39.99, Sweaty Betty
Long enough that you can do downward dog without fear of showing more than you intended and with a concealed back zip pocket that’s just big enough for a set of keys, these shorts work just as well for yoga classes as for running. They’re comfy and flattering and the tie waist and adjustable side cords mean you can adjust them until they fit just so. They’re super quick drying too, so you can stick them in the wash after an early evening run and they’ll be dry in time for a morning yoga class.

Liquid Yoga, £26, and Workout Wonder, £21, Mio
Mio skincare products promise to contain no nasties but at the same time work hard and do what they say they’re going to do. On the basis of the two products I’ve tried I’d say they’ve nailed it. Workout Wonder gel is brilliant pre-workout (for a energy boost) and post-workout (to aid speedy recovery). It’s fast become a gym bag essential for me and I’m going to miss my bottle when it gets the ultimate test at the end of the month – I’ve promised to lend it to my sister when she heads to Berlin to do the marathon. After an evening run my new favourite way to unwind is to soak in a bath with a glug of Liquid Yoga. I lie back with a book and let the blissful blend of minty, citrusy and lavender essential oils, mineral salts and therapeutic herbs get to work calming my mind and soothing my muscles. Either product would make a great gift for a fitness fanatic friend, or a treat for yourself.

5 Grain 5 Seed Porridge, £2.60, Rude Health
My go to breakfast year round, except on the hottest of days, is a bowl of porridge topped with seasonal fruit, nuts and seeds. This porridge already contains a whole bunch of seeds (two types of linseeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seed and poppy seeds) as well as five different grains to boost its good-for-you rating and save you the bother of having to buy various seeds and grains and mix them yourself. Even made up with water it’s got a lovely, creamy taste and the seeds give it a pleasing crunch. The box instructions suggest soaking the porridge overnight which I’ve never gotten around to. If you’re as organised as me (in other words not very) it works perfectly well if you don’t.

What healthy purchases have you made recently? What are your pre and post workout rituals? Oh and I’ve nearly finished up my shampoo, conditioner and mascara and I’m looking for healthier alternatives – have you used anything you’d recommend? As ever, do share!
That book looks great! Totally up my street with all those pictures and easy to dip in and out of. I dont get through a book unless I’m on holiday and I don’t get many of those. Soaking porridge is great – I just got into doing it recently but figured if you can make almond milk by soaking almond and oat milk by soaking oats then I dont need to waste a fortune on those expensive cartons of it. I make up a batch of it now each night when I do the packed lunches and fill it with oats, almonds, lots of seeds, chia and a few dried apricots, cranberries and fresh blueberries then soak that in water for the night – which should mean its ready to cook in some kind of oaty- almond milk, right? I dont know what I would do without porridge – I have the hungriest family!
It really is a great book Amanda, very inspiring, highly recommend. You’ve inspired me too, porridge soaking ready for Wednesday brekkie!
Pre workout is always a black coffee or expresso (never have coffee post exercise), and post workout has to be Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey- tastes great, and doesn’t have rubbish in like other powders. Blend it with your rude health oats as a drink, or add an egg to oats and the powder to make make protein (chocolate) pancakes!
Tara x
I’ve read about coffee being a good thing to drink pre-workout before Tara, a good reason not to give up my daily cappuccino! Will give Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey a try, the protein pancakes sound delicious! x
My best friend has a photo of me that she loves to drag out regularly of me with a costa in hand while actually ON the bikes in the gym. I don’t know what I was thinking but I don’t think I was in ‘the zone’ that day! Pre-work out coffee sounds good.
Haha, excellent multitasking skills!
Just a quick comment to say that the monthly Healthy Hauls are my favourite posts on RMS 🙂
Thank you Katie, that’s so lovely to hear!
