This morning it is all about the man in your life. Covering gadgets, fashion, toys (yes we never really grow up do we), music and of course a few novelty items without which Christmas would not be complete… I present to you a smorgasbord of festive fancy and may I just say I am particularly proud of some of the black Friday fashion bargains that I have found for you. It looks as though the sales have started early this year.
Gadgets
The Fuji x-m1 is an absolutely brilliant point and shoot camera with detachable lens – it’s compact enough to carry with you anywhere, shoots great in low light and has full manual controls so if you are looking to learn more about photography this is a great place to start as it doesn’t carry the high price tag of a full dslr. It’s got 16.5 megapixels and the lens opens up to f/1.4 which means you can get those lovely blurred backgrounds and pin sharp foreground. On the other end of the scale we have the Konstruktor DIY SLR camera kit. This one has no megapixels… And you have to build it yourself. The kit contains plastic camera parts, a 50mm/f10 lens, a screwdriver and an instruction manual. The camera has a multiple exposure function and uses 35mm film.
Music
Ok so if you’ve ever read one of my posts before you’ll know I love music, particularly records. I wrote a whole post on how to buy your first record player which you can read here. The short story is if you are looking to spin some vinyl with minimum expenditure then an all in one player like the Crosley Keepsake Deluxe is a great place to start. This one even connects to your computer so you can convert to mp3. Talking of MP3 I really love the Personalised Mix Tape MP3 Player – its a tiny weeny mp3 player shaped like an old c60… The idea is you load it with songs and give it to your loved one. Romance is not dead folks.
Storage
Big enough for a weekend away this Filson Small Duffel Bag is probably the most rugged man bag I’ve laid eyes on. I’ve got this Comme Des Garcons French grey leather wallet on my Christmas list. I need a new wallet and am a big fan of this ones compact proportions and full zip… no more cards spilling out when you least expect it. Hopefully Santa is reading this post.
Toys
Lego is back… Although actually I’m not sure it ever went away. It’s always great to have something to do after all the presents are open – and what could be better than commencing construction of your very own lego Volkswagen T1 Camper Van? I can only think of one thing and that is building a Ghostbusters Ecto-1. Maybe that’s just me though… There are thousands of other retro icons to choose from at lego.com
Smells
It’s more Comme Des Garcons… I love both of these smells… The Gold 888 is SAFRALINE, PEPPERWOOD, CURCUMA, CORIANDER, GERANIUM, AMBER, INCENSE, PATCHOULI whilst Commes Des Garcons 2 is more INK, INCENSE, AMBER, LABDANUM, PATCHOULI, CHINESE, CEDARWOOD, NEW ALDEHYDES, CUMIN, ANGELICA ROOT, VETIVER, CADE OIL, ABSOLUTE MATE, MAGNOLIA, ABSOLUTE FOLIA. Trust me – they both smell fab. You can find them in Selfridges or House of Fraser and both scents are unisex.
Novelties
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the odd novelty gift… First up we have a a book for the Whiskey lover… Whiskey An Instant Expert I’d actually really like this book as anyone who knows me will know that I am partial to the odd dram now and again but I’m no expert… Yet *cough *cough. And if you don’t like Whiskey maybe you like cheese? Everyone likes cheese… So stop being a lazy bones and rustle up a fresh batch. With The Big Cheesemaking Kit you actually can! You’ll soon be crafting your own artisan goats cheese, mozzarella or ricotta.
Hats
This is where the bargains start – first up hats. Love this Kangol trilby… And it’s got a whopping 80% off making it £14.00. If you want to go the classic winter route then look no further than this Hugo Boss hat and scarf set with 50% off
Coats
A winter coat would make an absolutely cracking pressie… Both of these are by DKNY. The Mens Notch Coat in grey or black has 75% off and is still available in all sizes (for now). I personally love the Commuter Mac which is available in black or navy in all sizes still once agin with 75% off.
Jumpers
I love a winter jumper but I’m afraid I’m not going dow the xmas jumper route… Rock My Style’s Lauren may have hinted that the xmas jumper is dead and she knows her onions! Instead we have our final two deals of the day. With 50% and 60% off respectively we have an ombre effect blue/grey knit by Diesel and Drawstring Hoodie by Evisu. Both ideal to keep your very spoilt man warm on that romantic Christmas morning walk.

I’ve bought my husband the cheese making kit already! He does have a love of mozzarella though.
Some great ideas – I especially like the Konstruktor camera, really interesting!
Hi Sarah, I bought my dad the mozzarella kit for Chrimbo last year and he loved it. It worked really well although he found that you had to leave it to drain for a lot longer in order to get a good consistency(!) That will probably mean more to you once the box is open and the instructions are read.
The Konstruktor camera looks fab… I love those clever folks at Lomography.
Mmmmm cheese
That is definitely going on the list!
Mmmm cheese and ghostbusters lego… A perfect Christmas 😉
I’m happy to say that I just bought my final present for my husband. He now gets a gift box of Boss Orange perfume, a smart French Connection tie (he hast to wear ties every day for work) and a Xbox 360 Game Alien: Isolation. It feels good, that this is sorted, however, I feel that I haven’t found THE special gift this year (alsways very difficult), just some things I hope he might like. I will still keep my eyes open, and if I see something special in the black friday sale or the next sale, he might get one more present 🙂
Mia… there is always room for one more present 🙂
I love that Boss Orange perfume, I’ve nearly bought it on a few occasions but I somehow just can’t seem to shift the Commes Des Garcons fascination.
I have to buy at least one box of star wars lego for my husband every year or he has a toddler tantrum! Although I have to say I may purchase him that nice DKNY grey coat this year (and lego of course!) x
Starwars… that might be even more geeky than ghostbusters.
I love the ghostbusters lego …I bought some lego for the bf for his birthday and he was ridiculously overexcited. Trying to work out what to get him for his main present – table tennis table or a watch?! Tricky decisions.
Sian… tricky decisions indeed – I was going to indue a watch or two in my list today but they are such personal choices. Table tennis… now there is a christmas day late afternoon activity if ever there was one.
Lovely bag perfect for what I want to get hubby- sold out! Will have to have a hunt!
Oh no… I hate it when that happens… You can get Filson stuff elsewhere if you hunt around. Although they are mainly in America still. I found this holdall at Mr Porter that is the same but this one is the next size up…
A DIY film camera sounds interesting. That f10 lens though…
I reckon I’ll give it a go though 🙂
