It’s official. Autumn starts this week! Though we’ve had some really sunny days recently there’s definitely a chill in the air and a tell-tale morning mist signalling the start of the new season.
I was aiming to limit this post to my five things I love about autumn (and fall 2014 in particular) but I got so carried away it quickly became ten.
Without further ado, this year I am mostly looking forward to:
1. A flurry of hen celebrations and weddings to take me right through to the new year.
2. Celebrating our own four year wedding anniversary in November with a blissful trip away. I might need your help with this so a post may follow.
3. Researching and planning a short break in the sun next February.
4. Thick black opaque tights, leather skirts, plaid shirts, fedora hats and cable knit jumpers. All fall fashion in general really.
5. Candlelight and cosiness in my living room. More of that to come in a feature very soon with lots of photos.
6. Donning my hunter wellies for a woodland walk surrounded by heaps of fallen leaves.
7. Finishing off said walk with with a pub lunch sat by a roaring fire.
8. Annoying my husband by watching Strictly and Downton Abbey. Although he says he doesn’t mind the latter as he likes anticipating an advert break as soon as any of the characters announce they’re going to London.
9. Experimenting on Sunday afternoons with a bit of cooking and soup making. Currently my first free Sunday is the end of November though so not sure how likely that is.
10. Starting my Christmas shopping. I’ve already started pinning ideas for decor.
What are you most looking forward to about this autumn?
I love autumn, it’s definitely my favourite! The lovely colours and bright, sunny cold days. And most of all being able to get the wood burner fired up, making everything all cosy. I’ll also be celebrating my 3 year wedding anniversary in November, and this autum we’ll also be welcoming a new addition to our family, I can’t wait! X
Ooooo a wood burner. I am very jealous.
Sounds like you’re going to have a fab autumn with the new addition. Big congrats x
Your number 5 <3 Can't wait to see that!
I am looking forward to making a Christmas pudding! I've bought a pudding basin and am currently looking for the best recipe to try. Hoping to get it made in next couple of weeks so it can be put away and be extra tasty when Xmas rolls around. Not sure on a Christmas cake as the icing frightens me – not sure if I could get it smooth?
Also looking forward to tasty Sunday dinners with lots of root veggies, slow cooker stews and casseroles and getting my big fluffy slipper boots on again!
And finally hoping our grass will grow more slowly as it chills off! How many times have we had to cut it recently? Blimes!
Have you found many recipes for Christmas pudding yet Kitty?
On the Christmas cake, have you tried Nigella’s Chocolate Fruit Cake? It’s very festive but no icing required. My Mum makes it and quite frankly it’s amazing.
All of it! – my favourite time of year.
Can’t wait for more autumnal features.

Hi Anne, we’ve got a few lined up so pleased to hear it’s your favourite time of year x
Having just moved to Germany with my fiancé we are very excited about our first Christmas together in our own flat… I have already started browsing Pinterest and recipe books for food and decoration ideas! I am also looking forward to an excuse for wearing big fluffy jumper! X
Lucy, you’ll get to go to a proper Christmas market rather than the imitation ones we get over here! x
I love Autumn! With you on the leather skirt – I’ve an All Saints beauty that’s unworn from last year (couldn’t fit a baby bump in it!) x
I’m not sure I’ll be able to fit in mine. I was rather ambitious with the sizing…
I am pining for a British Autumn… although we are just coming into Spring and I can’t wait for some Sun!This winter seems to have been very long.
For your anniversary (congratulations!) I recommend The Bath priory hotel. My (new!) husband and I spent 4 nights there before and during our wedding. It was amazing and I can’t wait to go back when we’re next in the UK. We are also celebrating 4 years of marriage in January so I also need to get my planning hat on!
Hi Jess, thanks for the Bath Priory recommendation – it looks lovely!
Enjoy spring you lucky devil 🙂 x
I made Bero’s Christmas pudding one year and it was nice, it doesn’t have any nuts though which I missed. If you buy a plastic pudding basin you can microwave your pud, instead of steaming it which takes several hours and means you have to be stuck in the house. You need to make it early so you can keep adding brandy to it!
I’ve downloaded a Mary Berry recipes from BBc Food and am yet to look at it properly but it’s got almonds in it which for me are a must! I’m planning to make it in the next couple of weeks so it’s got time to mature!
Your list is getting me all excited for Autumn! I am gradually starting to look forward to boots, opaque tights and wearing my duffle coat!
I’m heading to sunnier climes on Thursday for 6 nights but when I return I shall be ready to embrace it all!
Did anyone see Jamie Olivers comfort food programme last night? I am definitely giving his Shepherds Pie a go – looked amazing! http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/lamb-recipes/shepherd-s-pie
Hi Lynn, did you see the Cheese Toastie the other week? Amazing.
Have a fab trip away x
No I didn’t but I’m going to have to check it out – I think I may be buying another Jamie Oliver book which will totally contradict everything the Hemsley book is teaching me!!
He likes his olive oil doesn’t he? Definitely not clean eating!
How do you ‘like’ a post…? I like this post…see you later summer! Bring on the new boots, cable knits and having the electric blanket on!
And of course….my autumn wedding! Eeeek!!!!!!! X
Wahoo Eleanor! I love an autumn wedding!
Could have done with an electric blanket last night x
