Spring is definitely on the way. Don’t believe me? Don’t blame you to be honest, at this point in the year it does feel as if we’re forever stuck in a Narnia-style perpetual winter. But it is – I spotted crocuses in amongst the grass as I cycled past Victoria Park the other day and it’s light when I leave weekday yoga classes at 7.30am. Hurrah!
While it’s not warm enough to put our winter coats in storage yet (is everyone else as bored of their winter coat as me?!) it is time to transition away from chunky jumpers and make way for lighter weight knits. After a whizz round Westfield in the week I’m feeling the striped sweater for spring – here’s my five favourites…
Sailor Stripe Sweater, £17.99, Zara
Zara does it again with this dropped-hem side-split boat-neck black and off-white breton stripe knit. It’s the perfect casual weekend throw-on and is an unbelievably good price.
You can buy it here
Stripe Slouch Sweater, £38, Topshop
Charcoal grey and cream stripes make this slouchy side split sweater from Topshop a bit different from the more classic black and white or navy and white stripe. Which totally means you could buy this one even if you already have a more classic one in the wardrobe at home.
You can buy it here
Oversized Ribbon Yarn Jumper, £29, Esprit
Esprit’s take on the stripe knit, a reverse of the traditional breton stripe with added slouch and a pocket, would quickly become one of those, ‘What did I wear before I owned this?’ pieces in your wardrobe.
You can buy it here
Premium ribbed fine knit sweater, £29.99, Mango
I would never have thought of tucking a sweater into wide leg trousers but this black and white striped one, from Mango’s Premium line, shows it’s a do. Loving the neckline and the drawstring sleeve detail.
You can buy it here
Raglan Cotton Jumper, £35, Cos
Proving that stripe knits can look office smart, this slim fit jumper from Cos looks great layered over a long line white shirt and slim skirt.

Spotted any more lust-worthy striped sweaters to add to the list? Already own several? How can it be that I don’t currently have one in my wardrobe? Any thoughts, as always, do share in the comments section below!
Love the Zara!! May have to brave Oxford Street prior to my Glasgow trip.
Yes, perfect for Glasgow!
Very tempting! Have just invested in my first striped tops ever – two Bretton from Boden, one white stripe on navy, and a white stripe on grey – making the most of their 20% off weekend (is still running today too!).
Ooh, thanks for the heads-up about the Boden discount Caroline, need to get some dinosaur PJs for my nephew’s birthday!
Amazingly, for once I have chosen the two cheapest items as my favourites; the Zara and Esprit ones are gorgeous! xxx
Invariably go for the most expensive items Lucy, but the Esprit and Zara are my faves too! x
Love it all! 🙂 For me it always feels like I’m looking for a perfect breton top! Even though I’ve got few, I’m forever searching for one that would be good for everyday and also office friendly. Saying that I recently bought gorgeous stripy zara dress http://www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/dresses/striped-jersey-dress-c358003p2506507.html and just ordered that Cos jumper…
That dress is going straight on my want list Justina – gorgeous!
Oh I love stripey jumpers! Always makes me feel effortlessly chic. My two bargain on this front so far are – very recent purchase at Lidl of all places (£5.99 – figured you can’t go wrong and it’s comfotablet and cute!) and Sainsbury’s a few weeks back. Both complete bargains so there might be room in the budget for the Zara one you linked
Wow, that is a total bargain Maike, you deserve the Zara one for your brilliant bargain hunting skills!
I’m addicted to Breton striped tops I have a few from mint velvet and joules. The Zara one looks very tempting! John Lewis have some lovely ones in their weekend range.
I love that the Breton stripe can look casual but also chic at the same time
Love the casual and chic at the same time thing too Stacey!
Zara one is my fav methinks 🙂
I bought a similar Mango one to the one above last year that I still love.
Also with the spring chat, I woke up to snow here in Edinburgh this morning. pfft
Snow?! Oh my goodness, it’s still chilly in London, but not snow cold!
I’m a massive fan of Breton stripes and lived in them during pregnancy (I had my little girl three weeks ago). Just bought my first post-pregnancy stripy fix from Gap (this one – http://m.gap.co.uk/product.html?dn=gp000140119004&dv=0&shopid=0&pdn=gc57334). Received today and have to say it’s a great fit. And good value. Really pleased. Now just to decide which stripes to buy next. Thank you for the inspiration!
Pleasure and very much liking your stripy Gap find Laura!
