As I was putting together this post I checked the weather forecast for Monday. It looks like it’s going to be a scorcher. So the last thing you probably want to think about is winter coats. However the shops are full of them right now and if you don’t move fast you might miss out.
Parkas are set to be big this season. I already have a perfectly good one that I bought a couple of years ago. It’s seen my through festivals, camping trips and many a mid-winter night out. Basically whenever I want to be really cosy I pull out my trusty parka. It needs some new buttons (several went missing last winter) but other than that it’s in very good nick. So this is purely a fantasy shop for me. I’m definitely not going to buy the Topshop one, even though I may have tried it on in store. Twice. Ahem…
Ultimate parka, £55, ASOS
This one is pretty much the classic parka style which is probably why they’ve called it the ultimate parka. It comes in a choice of black or khaki. Unlike the model, who seems to have forgotten to put on the bottom half of her outfit, I would wear it over skinny jeans.

Contrast pocket parka, £90, Warehouse
Until a couple of years ago I was always very much a Warehouse girl. I’m not sure exactly what happened but we fell out of love and I moved on. However, based on a recent look around their site, that could all change this season. Case in point this parka which, with its contrast pockets, is a little bit different from the norm in a totally good way. Also, how cosy does that faux fur trim hood look?!

Short mustard parka, £69.99, Zara
Mustard is not a colour that appears anywhere in my wardrobe but if I was in the market for a parka this would be high on my list of possibles. Love the colour, the length and the wraparound collar. Previous to putting together this post I would never have considered wearing a parka with a leather look skirt, but I would now.

Padded parka, £29.99, H&M
My parka colour preference has always been for khaki but based on this navy blue one the lady might be for changing (it also comes in khaki or black if you prefer). At £29.99 it’s another brilliant bargain from H&M.

Faux fur trimmed parka, £98, Topshop
I’ve been coveting this parka ever since Topshop teased their Cara Delevingne campaign and as I said earlier in the post I’ve tried it on in store. Twice. If there wasn’t already a perfectly good khaki parka hanging in my wardrobe this would totally have come home with me. I love everything about it from the ever-so-slightly-oversized fit, to the feel of the faux fur trim (which is unbelievably soft fyi!).

Have you already invested in your winter coat? Did you go for, or are you thinking about going for, a parka? If not what style’s on your winter coat wish list? Do share!
I found a parka on boohoo.com that is a total steal at £30. I took it with me to Australia and lived in it while I was there for two weeks during their winter. My one tip though is buy big – I’m usually an 8/10 but the 10 is quite snug and I wish I’d bought a 12. But, since their so cheap, I might just do that!
Love the Asos one, it looks super warm and snuggly.
Boohoo isn’t on my list of regular online shopping checks Kate but with parkas at £30 I’m thinking it should be!
A Parka is one of my wardrobe staples, My beloved waterproof Kooples one has finally had it (sad face) and although I have a light weight summer/Autumn one from Mango I am on the look out for a cosy winter option. I like the Topshop one very much indeed.
I can confirm that the Topshop one is great in real life as well as in the pictures.
I really like the first and last ones! I keep walking past the Cara ad in Top Shop in Edinburgh and loving the fur hood however I already have a fur hood on my Zara duffle I bought last year… can’t wait to wear it again in Autumn.
Can you do a similar item on mac’s? I always think it’s something I need to get to look oh so professional, and it’s practical but then they all seem so meh. I walked past about 10 people in identical beige mac’s this morning – I want something different!
Ooh, I do like a shopping feature challenge Lynn, look out for macs in a couple of weeks time!
Haha – thanks 🙂
Yes please! Really want a mac but not a beige and not boring and not “dodgy” looking…!!
Haha, I’ll do my best Victoria, no dodgy looking macs, promise!!!
I’ve got a lush lightweight one for Spring/Autumn from Oasis earlier this year, it’s a really nice navy blue. But I think I’d like a cosier winter coat this year, my other one was just from George and was a bargain but I’d like a change!
There are so many cosy winter coats around right now Kitty, you’ll be spoilt for choice!
[…] week readers Lynn and Victoria requested a feature on macs similar to the parka round up (here if you missed it). Lynn wants to add a mac to her wardrobe because, as she rightly says, […]
