I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you the mild temperatures have disappeared and we’ve now entered car-scraping season. Here are five buys to keep cosy and stylish when the freeze sets in.
Playful Pom-poms
I’m not usually one to take style advice from a five year old but my friend’s daughter was rocking a bobble hat last weekend and she looked ace. I did buy a pom-pom donned hat at the start of the autumn but find the sheer weight of the bobble pulls it off my head. Anyone experiencing this? What’s the secret to keeping it in place?
I am very much liking Topshop’s check beanie with a subtle pink detail to add a playful touch to my otherwise grey attire.
Thermal Layers
I would like to meet the person who developed HEATTECH and shake them by the hand. My previous experience of thermal underwear was vests that were too short – an exposed midriff does not keep you warm, and they were too bulky to lay evenly under clothes. When I went to Iceland about six years ago a friend recommended I try Uniqlo’s vests and I was converted. Apparently the cutting-edge fabric takes body heat and stores it within air pockets deep within the fibres to keep the wearer warm. It really works. I promise.
Toasty Socks
There’s no denying 30 odd quid is a large amount to fork out on a pair of socks but the White Company cashmere socks are pure luxury. After all they’re cashmere darling. My friend gave me a pair for Christmas several years ago and I adore them. They are warm, soft and snuggly and amazing quality.
Stylish Gloves
It wasn’t until this week I really felt the need to get out my gloves. When we moved out the washing machine on moving day I was tickled pink to find last year’s leather gloves which I was convinced I’d left in a bar somewhere. A few of you commented on my polka dot pair from 2015 so I was pleased to find Topshop have a similar studded pair this year in the sale. As they only had the smaller size in stock when I put this post together, those with larger fingers can get their kicks at Asos with a suede pair with a studded trim.
For those of you favouring a wooly mitten or glove then Accessorize have a great selection.
Cosy Jumper
Obviously we couldn’t do a round-up of cosy attire without including a snuggly jumper. I have to admit I haven’t purchased from La Redoute recently but I’m very taken by their Textured Alpaca Jumper and with 60% off you can get one for less than £25. Bargain.
How are you staying warm this week? Any cosy buys you’d like to share?

For Christmas this year I was extremely spoilt and was given both a pair of leather gloves and a pair of White Company cashmere socks. I’m going to be toasty warm indoors and out this winter!
Oooh Sara you lucky lady! x
I love leather gloves – best thing ever for driving on cold mornings. I got some for Xmas a few years ago & they are still going strong, if anything they are nicer as the leather softens. I can’t justify buying any more jumpers this year but that La Redoute one is just gorgeous!
Totally agree Sophie – leather gloves are the best for driving and I love how they get better with age. The same definitely can’t be said for woollen mittens x
A lot of love for the white company cashmere socks here – I received my first pair as a Secret Santa gift around 8 years ago and have been loyal to them ever since – I think I’m on pair 3!! Most definitely worth the money. They’ve since become my go to gift too – my sister and sister-in-law both received them from me this Christmas!
I think they’re a fab gift for someone who you’ve exhausted the usual options for. There’s only so many times you can buy your sister a necklace or a handbag!
Now I hear you’ve got three pairs, I definitely need a second 😉 x
Sonja I’m on my third pair too – I’ve had pink, white and grey so far but the pink had to be binned when I wore them so much they developed holes in the soles. Definitely fantastic value though especially if you manage to buy them with a 20% discount!
Ooh I like that jumper! Worried it might look a bit ‘bulky’ on me, I tend to go for finer knits…might have to have a sneeky peek at the La Redoute website tonight anyway to see what they have! You always pick out lush things Lauren 🙂
Aww bless you Katie. I know what you mean about the jumper though. The model wearing the cream one makes it look like the size comes up a bit large x
