All summer long I’ve been carting my stuff around in one of the many black fabric bags that I’ve amassed over the years (where do they all come from?!). Unfortunately they’re no good for rainy days and they’re not really going to work with a winter coat, so I’m looking for an upgrade. I want a bag in a similar style, that’s smart enough for work, but big enough to hold my entire life, including a laptop, book, notebook, pens, phone, camera, chargers, make-up bag, wallet and keys. Here’s five I’ve found, starting at a budget-friendly £14.99.
Tote Bag, £28, asos
The smartest of the five bags I’ve found, this is made of a leather-look fabric so great if you don’t do leather and there’s a zipped compartment to help keep your valuables safe.

Shoulder Bag, £14.99, H&M
Another faux leather bag, this is a more casual slouchy style with an adjustable shoulder strap, one large compartment and three inner compartments, so you could, in theory at least, keep your stuff quite organised.

Leather Tote, £95, & Other Stories
The most expensive of the five bags I’ve found, I very much like the simple shape, flap top and cracked leather fabric that gives it, as they put it, an edgy-chic kinda look.

Leather Shopper, £38, Oasis
A simple classic style with strong and sturdy leather handles, this would work with almost any winter look and is plenty big enough for lugging around, well, everything you could possibly need.

Leather Shopper, £79.99, Zara
Zara can always be relied on for covetable classic-with-a-twist accessories and this shopper is a case in point. The plaited handles provide an interesting detail and the zipped compartment will help keep your stuff safe.

What style bag will you be toting your stuff around in this season? Seen any totes at not crazy prices that fit my brief? Do share!
Am I the only one that doesn’t own a tote? I fear I’d just lob everything in and never be able to find anything (!) x
That is the inevitable outcome… x
I bought this beast a few weeks ago (might have mentioned that on the baby changing bag post) and have literally been carrying my life around with me ever since!

It holds lunch, makeup, laptop, iPad, notepad, umbrella, water bottle, flat shoes, the list goes on…
Love it Lynsey, all bags should be able to carry that much stuff minimum, I don’t really see the point otherwise!
Well Miranda, which one are you gong to get then? Or did I miss that? My favourites are the first one from Asos and the last one (Zara). I didn’t think I would need one, but now that I’ve seen those, I might have to get me one 😀
It’s tricky Anja, I genuinely love all of them, but I think I think the Zara one just has the edge on the others for me (the plaited handles!). I’ll be heading to Westfield this week (honestly, I should probably just move in) and have a look at it in the flesh!
I bought a tote from H&M earlier in the year and I haven’t parted company with it since! It’s big enough to cart around my usual cr*p, as well as a small Tupperware box with my lunch. On Fridays I work in a different office and I can always cram in my massive notebook and other documents if necessary. There are 3 little compartments – one with a zip and two others that I use to keep my phone, keys, oyster handy. Everything else just gets thrown into the ‘bottomless pit, but I can normally find everything easily (although my husband would disagree when I dump the bag upside down to find a pen…!)
Your bags sounds exactly what I need Jo. I’m terrible for losing things in the bottom of my bags, my Oyster Card in particular, I really should put it in a colourful case as opposed to the black one it’s currently in…
I have the Mulberry Alexa tote from a couple of years ago (actually it might be 4 years ago now!) but I am tempted by the Zara tote; might have to get someone to bring it out to NZ for me…
I have the Mulberry Alexa tote and love the Zara one best too Jess, it must be the plaited straps! You’re going to have to start a campaign to get Zara in NZ…
haha we have such good handbag taste! 🙂
