It isn’t actually spring until March (check out this countdown clock here!) but try telling the high street, where seasonally appropriate sale items are being edged out in favour of lighter, altogether springier clothes. I hit the high street on the weekend and the following five pieces stood out…
Floral blouse, £29.99, Zara
This printed blouse is basically spring in a top. How pretty is the print? The mandarin collar, longer back hem and rolled up sleeves give it a casual vibe which works brilliantly with busted jeans as styled by the Zara team but I can see it working with smarter garms too.

Grey skinnies, £39, Topshop
On Saturday morning I went to Topshop Oxford Circus and tried on what felt like every style of jean they carry with the aim of finding a pair of jeans as an alternative to my loose blue Zara ones, the only pair I own that currently fit. After pulling myself into various shapes, from flared (the 70s are back in a big way it seems!) to so baggy and ripped there wasn’t much jean left, my fave style was stretchy, skinny Leigh. I bought a pair in grey and I’m very seriously considering buying them in vintage blue and black too…

Camel duster coat, £79, Topshop
I didn’t know I needed a camel duster coat, or indeed what one actually was, until I saw this one in Topshop as I was grabbing every pair of jeans in sight. It’s a kind of drapey version of a trench coat fyi. I didn’t even try it on. I just stroked it. The fabric was so soft. We all know how this is going to end. It comes in navy blue too.

Animal print pumps, £35, Warehouse
It turns out that walking in heels isn’t like riding a bike and, after two years of not wearing heels for any significant length of time, I’ve lost the ability to walk in them. Flats it is then. These pointy animal print pumps would give plain dresses and skirts personality and would look cute with jeans too.

Striped tee, £40, Fred Perry at ASOS
I’m never not looking for the perfect striped t-shirt. This one is more than I would usually spend, so the search continues, but I very much like the shape, which is totally working as styled with boyish trousers (a cute weekend alternative to jeans) and would look just as good with a denim skirt or shorts come summer.

1, I can’t believe those shoes are only £35?! and 2, the Fred Perry is gorgeous and especially with the trousers. I am trying to wear more of a trouser than jeans these days but so far I’ve been a little unsuccessful. As it happens I’m wearing a black skinny Leigh as we speak so yeah, I need to work harder on my trouser situation.
I know, bargain right?! The trousers are so cute. Leigh jeans are an upgrade from my yoga pants, I have further to go than you Becky!
I *love* those jeans, I have them in that exact grey and adore them. They also fit perfectly into my Uggs which is a massive bonus. I’ve bought another pair in blue (which I didn’t like as much – weirdly – they’re exactly the same size and type but the blue ones are tighter and ‘skinner’). And I got the MOTO Washed Black Baxter Jeans – which are AMAZING. I bought them a size bigger but they’re super super comfy and look really nice.
Basically Topshop and Jeans = <3
Kate, I have the same story?! Random – I love my grey and black Leighs but the blue pair I bought I took back, they didn’t fit the same at all.
I am very much loving a blouse right now – Miranda my friend Perfect Kelly bought that Mustard yellow one from Zara you recommended 🙂 x
Hmm, maybe I won’t buy the blue ones then Charlotte, I have a blue pair from Zara so need black to complete my jeans wardrobe. Very much feeling the blouse at the moment despite me saying in a post recently that I’m much more of a t-shirt girl. As is my way I would dress down with jeans and possibly even a trainer or Converse! x
They’re the best. I love that they tuck into my biker boots. I always find that when I buy multiples of something (I’ve only ever bought two of the same thing) there’s always one I prefer. Weird. Totally agree Kate, Topshop jeans are ace!
SO CLEVER buying two of everything, I really should do this instead of crying when my Favourite Thing wears out due to overuse!
I’ve only ever done it with jeans and difficult to find things like the perfect t-shirt Kate, which I’m still looking for tbh…!
LOVE all of these! I have just purchased a similar blouse from Zara but it’s covered in dragon flies – so many lovely things in Zara at the moment.
I agree Rach, Zara is so good right now, the dragonfly blouse is SO pretty!
Love Rock My Style but you guys are seriously not good for my bank balance!! Love the blouse- heading to town tonight!!
I haven’t purchased yet, I must before it sells out, aarrgghh!
I’m soooo buying those shoes!!!
Aren’t they great?!
I NEED those leopard print pumps from Warehouse!! xx
They’re fab aren’t they and such good value! xx
Totally getting that floral blouse for work!
It’s so pretty, great for work and/or weekends!
