I am loving the fact that Bonfire Night fell on a Monday this year, because it means that we get not one, but two weekends of fireworks and festivities.

On Saturday I took Lyra and Jenson to a local fireworks display where they jumped with joy at the whizzing and whooshing and showers of colours, and danced their little hearts out to the soundtrack. Cheesy but true. And on Sunday we invaded Adam’s garden and firepit which is where these pictures were taken. Lyra swirled her first ever sparkler and Jenson nibbled his first ever toffee apple. And we got to meet Adam’s new puppy, who we all fell head over heels in love with. See if you can spot her in the slider above. All in all, a magical weekend. And even better, we get to do it all again NEXT weekend. (Well, maybe not the crashing-Adam’s-garden bit).

But enough about Family Soeno, and on to the exciting bit…all the lovely Joules clothes that kept us toasty on Bonfire Night.

What We Wore on Bonfire Night {Lisa}

I blame you dirty-enabling readers for my obsession with Joules parkas. Following this post a couple of readers recommended the Joules Brodie parka (this year’s version is the Windfield which is even better as it comes with an inner gilet which can be worn on its own) and I can honestly say it is the best jacket I’ve ever owned. HOWEVER, it needs to watch its back, because the Aspen parka which I’m wearing in the pics is just as snuggly (the sumptuous fur trim! The hidden cuffs on the sleeves!), but being navy, it’s just a smidgen smarter.

These Ashwood Hiker Boots are my new favourite boots. They’re made of the softest leather, are lined with faux fur to the toe, and have a cleated sole (icy pavements, I’m ready for ya). I have never been for a hike in my life but if going hiking means I get to wear these boots, then bring on those peaks. #bootswiththefur

What We Wore on Bonfire Night {Jenson}

When I buy clothes for the kids I subconsciously have a checklist of things I’m looking for. Yes I want them to look nice but most importantly they’ve gotta be comfy. And practical! Jenson’s a mucky little pup and he seems to have been teething for EVER, so dark clothes (preferably of the wipe-clean variety) are a must. This gilet ticks all those boxes, and the inside is lined with the fluffiest polar fleece.

I have just realised that Jenson’s gorgeous grey starry hat is officially a girls’ one. Sorry about that Jenson. Actually, I take that back, I’m not sorry. It’s a cute hat and I’d buy it for him again even now I know it’s a girl’s one.

What We Wore on Bonfire Night {Rich}

A lot of my friends choose all of their husband’s clothes for them. Rich is not one of those people: he likes his clothes and is extremely fussy about what he wears. He would NOT be up for me choosing his wardrobe. However this quilted jacket and charcoal beanie passed the Rich test with flying colours. (Say in a Brummie accent, “Yer they’re sound they are.”). And I know I’m biased but I think he looks so handsome in them in these photos, despite the fact that he was nursing a start-of-the-festive-period hangover.

I reckon the beanie would make a lovely stocking filler, and at just under £100 the jacket would make an excellent ‘main’ Christmas present for all those hard-to-buy-for-hubbies.

What We Wore on Bonfire Night {Lyra}

Questions Lyra asked this weekend:
“Mummy, how do fireworks work?” (My answer was … erm … interesting and involved mentions of gunpowder).
“Mummy, what’s gunpowder?” (The answer in my head was, “Wtf IS gunpowder?”).
“Mummy, can we have Bonfire Night every night?”
Questions Lyra didn’t ask this weekend:
“Mummy, why do I have to wear a blue hat in Adam’s garden?”
(HOORAY). I haven’t intentionally brought her up to be a girly girl but she is such a stereotypical little lady, and infatuated with glitter and rabbits and the colour pink. But she happily donned this blue bobble hat to toast her (pink, rabbit-shaped) marshmallows and I will be packing her off to school in it all winter.

The parka that Lyra’s wearing in the pics is one that I bought her last year, and it’s the mini-me version of the Windrush parka. (Told you I was obsessed). I have been SO impressed with it. It manages to withstand daily somersaults over muddy grass (or ‘gamboles over the grass’ if you’re a Brummie like Rich) and rainshowers aplenty (it’s waterproof). And just look at the lovely fishtail shape at the back. Rich gives me stick about the fact that I bought her the same jacket as myself, but I think he’s just jealous.

Is anyone else twinning with their little ones?!
Do you buy your other half’s clothes?!
What did you get up to for Bonfire Night and will you be celebrating again this weekend?
