Although it’s gorgeously warm at the moment, those nights are getting longer and it’s getting dark much earlier. Hot on the heels of Monday’s fireplace chat, today it’s all about home decor updates for the new season. As an extra bonus they’re all under £30, in fact some of them are free or just a couple of quid.
Faux fur rugs are a must for this time of year too for something extra special underfoot. My Ikea Tejn Fake Sheepskins from my old dining room are still going strong and I like to drape them over chairs, sofas and stools as well as the floor.
Not sure if you’re bored of copper yet but it’s still everywhere. The smooth lines of this Glass Table Lamp combined with the metallic copper effect make for a very pleasing combo plus it’s just £25. I’m a big fan of George lighting at the moment and recently bought two of these Lee Broom Cut Glass Ceiling Pendant replicas for my spare room. Their products seem to go in and out of stock frequently so it’s worth checking back every so often.
Another trend which isn’t shifting is marble. Rockett St George have some smashing marble effect coasters. Perfect for your mug of hot chocolate or your glass of vino and under a tenner. Speaking of hot chocolate, why not pop your marshmallows in this marbled beauty?
Everyone needs candles in their life especially now the days are getting shorter. Have you had a sniff of the new White Company Autumn candle? A beautiful concoction of pear, quince and apricot blended with musk and amber. It gets Lolly’s vote.
As well as candles, vases also form part of my Autumn toolkit. Inspired by the blooms from our RMW sunshine shoot captured by Ben from Touch Photography and in Emma and James’ wedding shot by Ashlee Taylor I bought a beautiful vintage bottle from an antique shop in Burford recently. The brown glass is perfect for offsetting the stunning orange and pink hues which are about now summer is beginning to fade. Pick them up from antique shops, car boots, Etsy or eBay for just a few quid.
Fashionistas tell us we should be wearing velvet this season and so should your home. I’m about to order a few H&M Velvet Cushion Covers for our snug in navy, however the plum ones have really caught my eye too. At £6.99 they’re a steal.
We’ve had years of charcoals and indigos so it’s good to see a newcomer come through in the world of dark decorating. If you fancy a touch of the darkest emerald green then check out Farrow and Ball Studio Green. The stunner of a deVol kitchen in the slider above is a bespoke mix of emerald and racing green.
What’s Autumn without a pumpkin or a pinecone? Most of the supermarkets have latched on to the trend for cute gourds which make the sweetest seasonal decor just like Ciara and Gary used in their wedding captured by The Lou’s. Alternatively grab a few pinecones, acorns or conkers on your next walk and layer them up a vase. Hooray for free decor.
So this is a scarf but bear with me. The lovely Fern purchased this gorgeous ASOS Chevron Scarf recently and it’s so large it could be used a throw as well as neck warmer-upper. We like a bit of stylish multi-tasking and all for £18 too.
Finally when the weather gets cooler it’s time to embrace a bit of texture and maybe a new hobby too. Why not combine the two with a DIY Macrame Hanging Decoration from Holly’s House and make your own wall art for under £30.
Any autumn homeware pieces taken your fancy? What budget bits have you been buying for your home?
Oooh that green! Some lovely finds here Lauren. I have a scarf I share with my peacock chair. Its actually really handy as its my face one and means I always know where I’ve left it!
Ha! That’s a great tip Amanda. I can never find mine! Can’t believe we’re heading for scarf weather!
Love a scarf! My friend bought me a lovely green and red scarf/shawl back from India years ago and I love it – wear it as a normal
scarf but it’s so big you can wrap it around your shoulders and neck on a chilly winters day to be extra snug! I also like to take it on planes as a small blanket. However, it is showing a bit of wear and tear after 10 or so years so maybe time to update it with that ASOS one…
Fern mentioned the Asos one is super snuggly Jo. I’m always up for a multi-tasking item 🙂
Might be treating myself to the scarf! I have a thick one like that which doubles up as a blanket when the office inevitably gets freezing in winter (granny chic at my desk). Loving all the pretty as usual Lauren x
They never seem to get temperatures right in offices do they?! x
Ooh loving those coasters!! Definitely going to investigate those 🙂
SO pretty Annie x
This is hilarious as I have that very scarf as a throw/blanket on the chair in our spare bedroom. I saw a friend wearing it and thought it was an absolute bargain of a blanket, and it really is big enough to snuggle up under and much cheaper than other similar ‘proper’ blanket versions. xx
Ha! So much love for the blanket today India.
