Whilst my love of stripes is definitely an all year round thing, as opposed to a summer fling, stripes never feel more right than on a sunny summer holiday. From a classic knit to a sweet sundress, I’ve found five buys that’ll totally earn their place in your case. And all under £20. Sort of…

Jumper, £19.99, Missguided

If you’re thinking, “A sweater? In summer? Really?!” Let me explain. It’s useful to have with you when your evening is going to involve being outdoors long after the sun has dropped below the horizon. It’s essential if you have to spend more than a couple of minutes in one of those buildings where they’ve got the air con turned up too high. And it’s just the thing to throw on over your bikini when you’re on the way back to shore after watching the sunset on your yacht. Oh wait, that’s Beyoncé’s life. Still you get the picture, summer sweaters, more useful than you’d think.

Playsuit, £9.99, H&M

I’m not sure if there’s an upper age limit after which wearing a playsuit makes you look a bit bonkers, but whatever, I’ve never cared much for rules and this playsuit is way too cute and WAY too well-priced not to buy.

Shorts, £19.99, Mango

I know, I know, I include something from Mango in every shopping round-up I compile, but they are having a seriously good season. These stripy shorts, with their athletic shape, drawstring waist and pockets have got me smitten, so much so they could replace my trusty denim cut offs as my favourite summer shorts.

Dress, £12.99, H&M Conscious

Just add sunglasses, a straw hat, and a pair of Birkenstocks and you’ve got your sightseeing outfit sorted. Not only is this dress a bargain, as part of H&M’s Conscious collection, it’s a planet-friendly choice too.

Bikini Top, 17.99, Bikini Bottoms, £15.99, Pull & Bear

So, um, yes, I cheated with this one. If you were to buy both parts of the bikini you would have spent more than £20 but welcome to my head, where I wouldn’t add up the cost of the two pieces on purpose, because then it makes the bikini seem cheaper. You’d never believe my Dad was an accountant would you?!
