I feel as if we know each other well enough now that I can admit to having had a VERY lazy day this past Sunday and you won’t judge me. A week of early mornings, daily deadlines, late nights, and drinking more wine than usual (I blame the World Cup) had left me shattered and very much in need of a day of doing nothing very much at all.
Instead of allowing my typically Type A personality to call the shots and overschedule my Sunday as per usual, I resisted the temptation to make plans. Getting home late after watching the England v Italy on Saturday night/Sunday morning I didn’t set my alarm and woke late (for me, which is still relatively early).
In an ideal world I wouldn’t have left my flat all day but with very little in the way of food in the fridge I needed to go out and get supplies. I stopped at a local café for breakfast, figuring that if my trip to the shops involved someone else cook me a meal it fitted with my lazy day theme.
Arriving home armed with (more than) enough food to see me through the day I put on my comfiest clothes, and got cosy on the sofa where I pretty much stayed until it got dark, moving only to fix meals and make tea. I spent my day getting lost in a book (Elizabeth Is Missing which I’m very much enjoying), watching a couple of episodes of The Returned and idly browsing my favourite blogs and websites. It was pretty much the perfect day off, giving my brain and body the chance to rest and recharge ready for the week ahead.
During my online browsing session I stumbled across Zara’s Homewear collection. As a huge Zara fan I’m not sure how I haven’t come across it before. It’s made up of the kinds of clothes that would add serious style to a day of slacking such as sweet lace-edged shorts, slouchy harem trousers, cosy cardigans and vests and t-shirts in washed out shades.
It got me thinking about the perfect day off outfit which, for me, would be made up of tactile pieces in crisp white, grey marl and oceanic blues. A pair of relaxed trousers like these ones from Mango, a classic white vest like this one from Hush (who are brilliant at clothes that are comfortable but still stylish) and a jumper like this one from Topshop, to wear in the morning when it’s still chilly. Later, when the sun had warmed the day, I’d change into pretty shorts like this embroidered blue and white pair from Zara Home which I’d pair with a top like this dyed linen t-shirt, also from Zara Home. Oh dear, I feel a shopping spree coming on…
Are there any other brands you’ve discovered that do the elegant lounging thing well? Or are there any items you’ve seen or bought lately that would make a day of slacking look positively stylish? And what would your dream relax/rest/recharge day involve? As ever do share below!
Love Zara Homewear! So beautiful and reasonably priced. I discovered Oysho while I was in Paris and love, love, love their loungewear and pyjamas. They also have lovely relaxed underwear – lots of lacy triangle bras which I adore! There are no physical stores in the UK, but you can buy online. They have gorgeous swimwear too at the moment! x
I just took a look at Oysho’s website Sian. Want. It. All. Thanks for sharing! x
This is how I dream / imagine I will spend my lazy days dressed when in fact I always end up in baggy, shapeless tracky bottoms and a hoodie – oh the glamor! My poor husband!
There is nothing wrong with a hoodie Bryony!
