At the risk of sounding a bit, well, nuts (especially as I’ve already confessed to the occasional visit to a psychic) I’m just going to come out and say it, I’m hopelessly addicted to reading my horoscope. Not a day goes by when I don’t read something starsign-related usually online or, sometimes, printed on actual paper (I know, so retro!).
Every morning, often before I get out of bed, I read what the Astro Twins have to say over on US Elle’s website (fyi, the Astro Twins are actual identical twins Tali and Ophira – with names like that I’m not sure they could have done anything else but become astrologers). I also check their weekly and monthly predictions on US Elle and their weekly forecast over on Refinery 29.
Most weekdays I read Shelley Von Strunckel’s daily horoscopes in the Evening Standard and then on Sunday I check her week-ahead horoscopes in the Sunday Times Style magazine. Also on Sunday I read what Tracy Allen reckons is in store for me on the Free People BLDG 25 blog. And if I’ve got a spare 15 minutes or so somewhere near the start of the month I’ll read Susan Miller’s predictions over on Astrology Zone (be warned they’re LONG!).
I also follow numerous astrology-related and Sagittarius-specific feeds on Twitter. I have been known to check boyfriend’s starsigns for their compatibility with mine (you know, once or twice, in the past, ahem, cough, splutter) although I wouldn’t go as far as not dating someone on the basis that their sign wasn’t compatible with mine (I’m not completely bonkers). I’m yet to have a personal horoscope done but that’s mostly because my parents were always a bit vague on the exact time of my birth (around 6pm doesn’t cut it, apparently).
Um, yeah, so I told you I might sound a bit, well, nuts. I do get what the naysayers are on about when they point out that it would be impossible for approximately one twelfth of the world’s population to be having exactly the same thing going on at the same time, especially given the varying circumstances we all live in. However I do possess many supposedly Sagittarian qualities (we’re enthusiastic, optimistic, adventurous, travel-loving, independent and restless, among other things) and lots of the people I get on best with are fellow fire signs.
I don’t make life decisions based on what Tali, Ophira, Shelley, Tracy and Susan have to say. Sometimes they’re uncannily accurate. Other times what they’ve got to say is not relevant at all. Mostly I just enjoy reading them. The more I think about it, the less I’m sure why.
So, over to you. Are you similarly fascinated with your horsoscope? Or do you think I’m completely bonkers? Please reassure me I’m not the only one who has a daily astrology habit in the comments section below. Are there any other astrologers I should be checking? On second thoughts, maybe don’t share that information, I’m not sure I have enough time in my life.
And for all you fellow Sagittarians my regular reads are in agreement that now is a good time to get healthy and create new (better) habits, there are developments coming up work-wise and we should prepare for a boost in our romantic lives. Yay!
I do not check my horoscope on a regular basis at all but my best friend’s mother-in-law reads astrological charts. We were due to go and stay at her house for an evening before traveling to a festival a couple of years ago and asked she my friend if we would like to have our charts read. She was offering to do it for free and usually charges £200 so both myself and my (now) husband said yes. All we had to provide was our exact times, dates & places of birth. I was skeptical as to what she could tell me based on this information but also curious to see what she had to say. I had never met her before and I know that my friend wouldn’t have spent her precious time giving her details about us so there was no way for her to know anything prior to the reading. We had our readings separately and I was astounded by the insights this woman whom I had never met made about my personality and relationships I had with various people (parents etc). She didn’t predict the future she just told us about ourselves, strengths, weaknesses etc and she was spot on. She also told us about all the different signs that make up your chart and your personality – not just your star sign, but sun sign, moon sign etc and how the position of these in your chart impact also. It was amazing. There has to be something in it. Although it didn’t make me start reading my horoscope daily and I feel that I have done it now and don’t see what I would gain from doing it again…. Very interesting experience though. My incredibly skeptical partner was also blown away!
I love hearing stories like this (and am so annoyed that I don’t have my exact time of birth so I can have a reading done!).
Like Bryony, I too don’t check my horoscope. But during my teens and 20s I was very interested in astrology and learned how to create and read charts. I did my own and as Bryony says, once you take into account all of the planets’ positions and the tiny nuances caused my the time of day and location you were born, it really does create a fascinating and scarily accurate reflection. I don’t subscribe to it being a watertight unequivocal science (of course, because it isn’t!), but I believe it helps to gain a deeper understanding of your motivations and reactions.
I also created charts for others, sometimes unbeknownst to them (usually boys I had a big crush on) and that too gave a useful insight into why people are the way they are. These days, thanks to lack of time (and the influence of a very sceptical husband) it’s not something that I pursue, but even so I still tend to quietly assess people by their sun sign and use that knowledge in my dealings with them, sometimes without even realising I’m doing it.
I find it so fascinating and have, on more than one occasion, considered learning more about astrology – there are even degrees you can do!
Another birth chart fan here – I’ve looked them up for friends and always been told they’re spot on, as are mine and my husband’s! Cafe Astrology and Astrology Numerology are two good sites for this stuff.
I’m a Capricorn with Capricorn rising so I have a lot of Cap traits, but tempered by loads of Aquarius and Sagittarius elsewhere in my chart. My husband is an Aquarius and mostly typical but way more sensitive and romantic in relationships – turns out he’s got Venus in Pisces. For some reason most of my friends seem to be Scorpios or Geminis, no idea why!
While you can’t look up your exact chart, why not look up 12am on your birthday and 12am the next day, so you can see what might be in there? You’ll get one or two possibilities for each planet, depending on whether they moved that day. You can’t get your
rising sign but you’ll be able to get some idea of the planets at least.
I am such an astrogeek… I think obviously life experience and circumstance will shape you but perhaps your chart determines how.
How close does it have to be time wise? I’d love to have a chart done!
I am an Astrology Addict too. But not so much that i read it on daily basis. I just love to know my horoscope. Thanks to know about future who provides me complete details of my Horoscope once in a month as per my subscription package. Nice to know that there are some others too who are just like me (or a level more than me 😉 ) !!
