It’s probably the one time of year when your Instagram feed, usually dominated by muted colours and pastel hues, goes a bit, well, orange. It’s all fields of pumpkins, coppery gold leaves, and beautifully styled groups of gourds. I love it – it makes me want to pull my wellies on and go for long rambling walks through mountains of leaves, conker-collecting and pumpkin-picking.
And how to artfully arrange those humble orange vegetables? Well here’s some ideas that I have been busily squirreling away on my Pinterest boards.
Fall Hallway
Show your guests that you are fully embracing hygge as soon as they walk in your house. Pop pumpkins on console tables, in wicker baskets and on storage benches, and piled prettily by your wellies.
Fireplace fodder
Stack ‘em up haphazardly in the hearth, or dot some mini pumpkins neatly across your mantelpiece, mixed in amongst foliage and candles.
Pretty Pumpkin Centrepieces
Now this is a whole Rock My Wedding piece in itself. I’m helping a friend to decorate her wedding venue next weekend and pumpkins are going to take pride of place. There are so many ways to use them as centrepieces: around flowers, instead of flowers, carved and with flowers popped inside…Hopefully the bride will let me take some home the next day so I can use them on my dining table.
Black Magic
The little white gourds are my favourites, and they look fab styled with other monochrome accessories. If you’re planning on throwing a Halloween party then you might want to invest in some chalkboard paint or black spray paint to coat those pumpkins in and recreate this dark arts-y vibe.
Charmed Kitchen
Put those gorgeous gourds on display in dressers and on open shelves, amongst your crockery and enamelware. I recently sold my vintage kitchen scales on eBay and am now kicking myself because they would have looked perfect with a pumpkin propped on top.
Will you be decorating your homes with pumpkins this autumn? I would love to hear all about it. Finally our little sister blog Rock My Family is one year old today! Do pop over to wish them a Happy Birthday.
Love love love them. I’ve got some ornamental gourds in a bowl with a candle which is super snug and I definately need to go get more now.
I’ve also got some pine cones I plan on putting in a big vase with some fairy lights (if I can find any on my lunch break). Autumn is fab for decorating.
Pine cones and fairy lights, so much pretty. Writing this post made me think I need some ormanental gourds too! A trip to Homesense may be happening today…
This is great inspiration for my upcoming Thanksgiving/Housewarming party Lisa! I am not American but I love the food and can’t wait to host in my newly renovated home! I used to celebrate Thanksgiving with my American school friend and I have sort of carried it on. I think I’m going to copy the centrepiece for my table of Turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole and pumpkin pie! x
What a lovely tradition. Sounds amazing! Can I come please ? x
Love it all Lisa. I have been excited to get the Halloween decorations out since 1 October, but didn’t want to go too early. I think this weekend is the time! I must admit, most of my decorations are nowhere near as muted and tasteful as the ones in your moodboard, but if you can’t have a bit of tat at Halloween, when can you? 😉
Well if the shops are allowed to start selling Christmas decorations in October then I’m sure you’re allowed to start putting your Halloween ones up too! X
Autumn is by far and away my favourite time of year so this morning’s post is right up my street! I’m with you on the Autumnal walks too Lisa and the images of all those pumpkins tumbling out of fireplaces are sublime. I actually bought back a tonne of pine cones with me from a recent trip to Italy – they are huge and smell amazing – for the fireplace in the snug as a memento of our first family trip abroad. Happy memories all round xx
Ooh lovely Lolly. How did you manage to smuggle them past customs? ? X
Now Lisa that would be telling….
I did exactly the same thing when I went to Italy a couple of years ago – they’re bloody huge!! There was a guy knocking them out of the trees – I wondered what he was doing until I saw the size of them! He was making sure some unlucky person didn’t get bashed on the head with one, you’d probably get concussion haha! They look amazing though, everyone asked where I got them from. Maybe I need another trip to Italy for new ones? 😉
They also smell amazing chucked on the fire – you get that lovely pine smell. I didn’t want to burn mine after smuggling them through customs, but we were lucky enough to stay with my husbands cousins who live in Italy, and they had a lovely open fire so we’d snuggle up in front of the fire every night after dinner. Lush!
We are getting married next October and I want an Autumn/ Rustic theme and I’m obsessed with white pumpkins – Where do you get these?! 🙂
Ah congratulations! I saw some cute white ones in Sainsburys the other day. Or you could see if there’s a pumpkin farm near you? X
