I was at a bit of a loss how to title this post to be honest. What I mean is – lipsticks that you can kind of throw on with minimal fuss, not too far away from your natural pinkish lip hue but with a bit more polish and an overall brightening effect.
Of course everyone’s skintone is entirely different, so I would absolutely love you forever if you could describe your epidermis attributes, hair colour and a review of your favourite easy-to-wear pout perfectors in the comments box below. Assisting each other in the art of enabling if you will.
My absolute favourite (well at the moment, I am in no way faithful to cosmetics products as a rule, too many exciting things to try…) is MAC “Creme Cup“. It’s one of their lustre finishes, and is a creamy pink with a dab of mauve and beige. Apparently it’s widely used by Make-up artists on brides as it’s such a universally flattering shade.
Dior’s “Swan” (No.263) is a delicate barely-there pale-ish pink with a pretty sheeny finish, I recently bought it for my friend Lisa (medium skintone, brown hair) and it’s fast becoming one of her go-to products. Super easy to wear and you can layer it for more intensity.
One of the most genuine suits-all products is Clinique’s Chubby Baby Tint in “Blossom”. A glossy balm that is bespoke depending on your own natural pigment.
I know, magic.
I like the fact that even after the shiny finish has worn off, the ballet-slipper esque tint remains for hours.
If you are after a glossy gloss that doesn’t smear everywhere or become non-existent after a cup of tea and a biscuit, then Bobbi Brown’s Rich Colour Gloss in “Pink Sorbet” is lush. VERY pigmented and liquid-y yet non gloopy, it’s especially flattering on otherwise winter chapped lips.
If you saw Lottie’s “Glow” tutorial over on Rock My Family then you may have already seen me mention Lipstick Queen’s Chinatown pencil in “Catalina”. It has quite warm undertones, and is a subtle yet effective “makes you appear more awake” hue.
More recent discoveries not featured in the images above are Ellie Goulding for Mac’s “Without Your Love” (a gorgeous slightly shimmery more intense pink that leans slightly peach) and Gosh Velvet Touch lipstick in “Kitten Pink” from Superdrug. The latter is only £6.99 and is a kind of old favourite that I forgot about for ages. It suits me (silver/blonde hair with very pale yellow skin) as much as it does my friend Kelly who has dark olive skin and rich chestnut locks.
As I mentioned above, please do share your everyday lipstick shades below, I’m sure there are a few more I need to invest in…..
Ooooohhhh… I really like that Clinique number! I have the Smashbox O-Gloss which does the very same thing. But considering tints and glosses offer vastly different benefits I think I’ll need to have both 😉
It’s lovely Naomi – well worth the splurge. Also I’ve heard Dior have this magic liner which does a similar thing, apparently it makes your lips muchos pouty! x
I’m a pale blonde. My favourite natural pink used to be the clarins instant lip perfector in shade 1 (a proper pink) but I’ve just picked up the new shade 7 which is a more rose pink and I’m in love! They are the perfect glossy-not-sticky and give a good amount of colour (and easy to apply without mirror!).
I’ve heard excellent things about Clarins make-up recently Sarah, as I’ve never got on with the skincare I’ve kind of ignored it which is ridiculous. Clearly I need to investigate! x
Yes to Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector over here to! So moisturising and pretty. I’m quite fair and my hair is (currently!) brunette with a plum hue, and shade no. 1 suits me too 🙂
Katie x
Great post! <3 My favorite is Creme Cup, by MAC
Sabela
Yay Creme Cup twins! xx
Tom Ford LipShine in Frolic (sorry it’s so expensive!) is a lovely peachy pink on me.
Also love Bourjois ColourBurst crayon thingy in Proudly Naked! Again slightly peachy but not massively so.
I’m fair (pink undertones), blue eyes and what is now died reddish brown/dark blonde hair!
Oh god I’ve just done a survey of my lipsticks…..I have EIGHT very similar in shade…..4 Chanel (boy, romance, rendezvous, bad one), 2bourjois (proudly naked crayon and appechissant Aqua laque gloss thingy), a loreal gloss (rose melody) and the aforementioned Tom Ford…….
That should read Badine…. Not bad one!
Vicky I LOVE Badine! I didn’t mention it here as it’s Limited Edition (sad, SAD face) I bought it for at least 3 friends as gifts too. I’ve heard lots about “BOY” – it’s a real suits all shade apparently, I have secret which is paler and more beige.
I’m pretty sure Lolly wears Frolic?! Gotta love Chanel AND Tom Ford! xx
Charlotte, Badine was purchased after you mentioned it!!!
Ha ha ha! Yes I always worry about mentioning LE make-up apart from at the point where there are at least some left (!) – I’ve just bought a bunch of Dior that I need Adam to shoot ASAP so I can talk about it on the blog before it all sells out!!!!!! (Ahem, the lipstick in Souffle Nude is a DREAM, a peachy pink, perfect with a darker eye….)
Apologies in advance for potential enabling 🙂 x
Ha ha I’ll have to check it out…although maternity pay does not stretch very far ? (Maybe I could have one for Easter instead of chocolate…..)
I’ve just googled the dior range. That lipstick looks gorgeous as does the balm one…,hides credit card…..
ha ha ha!!!! You should totes have a lipstick as an Easter gift!
I do indeed wear Frolic and I’m one of the lucky girls that Charlotte bought Badine for too! I love both the colours and actually the names too which is always instrumental in a lipstick purchase at the moment. My mum bought me a super bright pink for Christmas from Guerlain too which I’m totally loving at the moment – I’ll see if I can find the name.
Ooh I love a good lippy that gives a touch of colour but is nice and easy to put on ‘on the move’ (and, crucially, sans mirror!). I’m quite tanned / olive skin with dark hair and my faves are:
Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector – this is more of a ‘gloss’ than ‘stick’ but it gives a really nice pinky colour and feels lovely on.
Estee Lauder Pure Color Lipstick – these are amazing and come in lots of colours, would highly recommend!
Stila Colour Balm Liptstick in Gabrielle – I bought this on a whim from beautybay but it’s lovely and creamy and stays on.
Honestly though, am a bit embarrassed to mention my favourite pink lippy of all time which is the Blistex Lip Brilliance in ‘Blushing’ which you can get at Boots (http://www.boots.com/en/Blistex-Lip-Brilliance-Blushing-SPF15-3-7g_1235369/). It gives my lips a lovely glossy pinkish colour and is under £3, everyone’s a winner.
Kate this Clarins instant light perfector seems to be really popular, I’m clearly missing out! And Blistex…WOW, I must give it a go, I remember using a pot of this stuff whilst I was at school?! I used to love the medicinal smell. A tinted one sounds amazing! x
My go to lipstick is always Mac in Hue. The finish hs glaze- it gives a soft finish a bit like when you pop some lipbalm on top. Im bery very pale, pinky undertones, (which is why i love this pink… Its not too ‘pink’ ) green eyes and dark hair, quite a few freckles ?
Hi Faye! Hue is a little pale for me – I think it’s because of my hair it makes me look a little washed out unfortunately. A great shade though x
Mac ‘Angel’ in frost finish is another fsvourite. The finish makes it a bit more evening, but the volour is a lovely pale pink gor spring. I have been eying up the dior soufflé nude for a few weeks.. Hmm
Faye it’s gorgeous seriously, I have a lot of shades that are undeniably similar but nothing quite like Dior Souffle nude…I’m tempted to buy a back up (!)
My make-up artist used Creme Cup on me for my wedding day – for some reason it looked lovely when she applied it, but when I use it is seems a bit pale for me. I recently purchased an Hourglass lipstick (I think the shade was Edition) and it’s brilliant. Really moisturising and easy to apply. The case is really nice and heavy too (I never realised that this was important, but I love it!). Definitely recommend – it’s not cheap, but I had a makeover at the counter in Birmingham’s Harvey Nichols recently and all the products are amazing. They’re also half price in America, where I happen to be going in October…I have a feeling my credit card is going to take a battering x
Oooh Emily I love Hourglass packaging, so chic! I find a pinky lip liner really helps to bring out the colour in Creme Cup – I use one if I’m going out. Perhaps your MUA did for W-day? I rate the sweet pink one by Maybelline – it’s a few quid and super soft x
Ah that might explain it, I’m sure she did. I’m a bit scared of lip liner, but I might have to give it a try – thanks for the recommendation 🙂
My favourite easy natural lipstick is Bobby Brown creamy lip colour in Italian Rose. I’m pale but I have a fairly deep lip colour naturally and lighter colours look awful on me (and 90s nudes – trying to wear Rimmel Coffee Shimmer at 14 – ugh!) .
The creamy lip colour is fantastic, creamy and moisturising enough to be forgiving when your lips are dry, but still quite pigmented, and wears off gently in a flattering way. The shades are all the kind that could be a great neutral lip depending on skin tone. The Bobbi Brown sales assistant in Liberty picked the colour for me and I have to say she could not have done better – it’s perfect.
Laura Mercier lip liner in Potpourri is similar (I used to use that plus balm to sheer it out), as is Bite beauty in Pepper.
But Bobbi’s my fave 🙂
I may have been lying about all the shades being a great neutral lip – I’m not sure anyone’s going to be neon pink! I think they released new shades. However, it’s a great range!
Italian Rose sounds lovely Kate! and the Heather Shimmer thing – I didn’t attempt that but I did used to wear a Natural Collection lipstick called plum shimmer….seriously, so awful with my colouring! Like a shiny purple with orange undertones! I’m sure I thought I looked ace at the time 🙂
Love it when a make-up assistant really knows their stuff, I’ve had really positive experiences in Liberty’s and Harvy Nics in Knightsbridge too xx
It’s an lipstick, I love Dior’s Lip Glow Color Revival Balm. It looks really pink in the packaging so I was a bit scared at first since I am not a ‘pink girl’, but on the lips it’s a lovely soft colour. Very natural but also very polished if you know what I mean. A better version of my lips and it’s also very moisturizing and lasts ages!
That was meant to say “it’s not an actual lipstick, but”
Anja in this range they now have a lip liner…..it looks amazing!
