I’ve been looking for over a year. Maybe even two.
And I don’t mean a fake leather i.e. pleather or even a coated jean, I want a pair of tapered leg legtheners made from 100% genuine leather. I truly believe they would be a wardrobe staple and should I find the right pair I would wear them for years.
Having perused Pinterest, asked my fashionista friends and taken note of styled spreads in magazines it would appear that Joseph is THE manufacturer of the best investment in terms of fit that money can buy. The fact they are nearly ALWAYS sold out makes me believe that is probably true, but at £725 I just can’t quite part with my plastic (they have been in and out of my virtual basket on a number of occasions.)
I currently have a pair of fake leather trousers from a shop called erm… “Jenny” (!) in France. They were 30 Euros and look way more luxe than they should. But they are not the real deal. And they do begin to lose their shape after a few hours wear. I also have these leggings from ASOS which are great with a T-shirt and trainers – they are particularly useful as day-to-day Mama wear as they are completely wipe clean…
I often peruse the offerings of The Outnet in the vain hope I might happen upon a pair by Helmut Lang at 50% off (or more – I have had some of THE most amazing bargains from this online mecca over the years). But they never seem to have my size (or at least they must go super quick and I miss them…..sad face).
And so the search continues.
Ideally I want them to have some stretch, I also like a zip/and or a VERY tapered ankle as with short legs, the narrower they go, the more flattering they are. Ideally I wouldn’t want to invest more than £300 – £400.
Do you have leather trousers or leggings?
Can you tell me where you bought them?!
Were they worth the investment and what do you wear them with the most in terms of shoes, tops and accessories?
If any of you can assist me with my quest I will love you FOREVER.
P.S If you are required to pout as much as per the images I have chosen in the header in order to make leather leggings look that good… I will fail miserably. I wonder if smiley goon would work as well?
Me too! I’ve been inspired by Saga from The Bridge – noone wears them quite as well as she does.
Who?! WHO?! I am now going to have to google this person Siobhan!
Does she wear them as well as Gillian Anderson wears a blouse?
Saga Noren. Fabulous series too. https://scandinaviantraveler.com/en/people/meet-sofia-helin-star-of-crime-series-the-bridge
Have you seen these by Hush- they’re out of stock at the moment but will hopefully restock soon?

I have Vics, but they don’t look that tight around the ankle…..yes, that’s how fussy I am 🙂
LOVE the burgundy shade x
You could always get them tailored
This is true, having had a major disaster with a taylor and a very expensive dress a few years ago it’s made me really nervous about altering anything expensive. I do need to find a good one though.
This could not have come at a better time, I’ve been envying those women who look effortlessly casual in leather leggings, and considering whether I can pull the look off without looking like Lily Savage. Thanks beauty x
You could NEVER look like Lily Savage! Can you pout like that though? I have been practising….not sure I can pull it off x
I think you have to think REALLY bad thoughts. I always think I’m doing it right then look in a mirror and realise I just look a little bit constipated. We just need to stick with ‘friendly smile’ I think. Gutted x
Love the Helmut Lang ones!!! They are beautifu.Always wanted to try leather leggings out but I’m not sure I wouldn’t look very dodge! X
I think they are easier to overdress than say a pair of jeans? But generally I love the way they can make a casual outfit look like you’ve made an effort x
I bought these last week Charlotte https://www.reiss.com/p/leather-trousers-womens-harvey-biker-in-black/?category_id=12508 They only have a 14 online just now but get new stock quite often.
Oooh OOOH! LOVE the look of these Sarah! And with Zip! Will keep an eye out for re-stocking, thanks so much for the tip! x
All Saints gets my vote. Around the £300/£400 mark but really well-made, super soft leather and keep their shape. They don’t have a zip but doing the oh-god-please-let-me-not-rip-these wiggle to get them on is part of the joys of owning leather leggings, right?!
This made me do a LOL. With my fake ones I have been known to lie on the bed and literally have to wrestle with them….. 🙂 x
Love a leather trouser. @Charlotte did you not get a pair of Helmut’s last year? I remember seeing you in a pair and being insanely jealous because inwasnheavily pregnant and basically living in Lycra.
I’ve just bought a pair from Mango to do a bit of a proof of concept. If I wear them as much as I think I will (so far so good), I’ll invest in a spendy pair!
I like this proof of concept idea – what a great way to test a potential spendy investment. I was probably trying to get the Helmuts way back then still (!) but no, it would have been my fake-y pair from France. Let me know how the Mango pair fair!
I second the Reiss comment, my sister works for them and she has a pair of their leather trousers and they look amazing, buttery soft, great fit and the fact that she wears them to work regularly and they look no different to me (I think I would notice saggy bum or saggy knee!!) must mean they’re a good investment. I really want a pair but can’t justify it so it’ll be the asos ones for me 😀 but if anyone finds a perfect leather biker jacket nice and fitted and a bit shrunken looking please let me know!! Xx
Thanks Liz, will definitely check them out. All Saints do lovely leather, as do The Kooples – keep a watch on sales as often more than 50% off both brands xx
These look nice-they have them in size 12 & 14

Love my leather leggings (admittedly they are “pleather” but they are rather lovely ones from Mint Velvet last year, nice and skinny with zips at the ankles)! Every time I wear them I feel super glam but I don’t wear them as often as I would like as I never know what to wear on my feet with them…. If I’m going out I dress them up with heels but what to put them with for daytime? Somehow tucking them into boots as I would my skinny jeans doesn’t seem to work… too much leather perhaps?
Kirsty I love my leggings with trainers – particularly my grey Nike pair x
A bit late to the leather leggings party but… Isabella Oliver do lovely maternity ones (even harder to justify the cost!). So their sister brand Baujken is probably worth a look.
Charlotte have you tried the Zara ones? I think they’re around £200 but will almost certainly go in the sale again – I got mine in the sale last year for £89 and they’re a style they keep repeating so must be popular. Very tapered to the ankle (I’m 5’8″) but are a trouser I.e. Zip and button rather than leggings. I wear mine non stop over colder months and can dress up or down however I’ve not yet washed them as they say not to be washed – which makes me feel a bit queasy!! There must be a magic way of cleaning leather trousers?! x
ditto a suede pair…
This may be a little out of date but just found this thread after researching about the Joseph leggings. Very exclusive today have a 30% off friends and family and the Joseph leather leggings are in it! This still makes them £500 but if you want to invest! all sizes currently available. https://www.veryexclusive.co.uk/
