Last year I was harping on about Christmas posts to the team in September. Usually I love Christmas. I can’t get enough of it. By the end of the summer holidays I know where I’ll be spending it and have planned all my winter weekends up until the big day. This year I’m all out of kilter and haven’t got in to the festive spirit at all, that is until I started to put together this post.
Last year my tree was white and grey with a dash of silver thrown in. Let’s face it, throwing away your whole archive of decorations is not an option so my tree is going to be pretty much the same this year. I have no qualms about mixing metals through so my little spruce is likely to get some copper action too.
In the name of research I’ve checked out some of my favourite online retailers to bring you a few ideas to deck your halls this Chrimbo.
Copper
Personalised
I’m crazy for anything with my initial on so I like the Gatsby inspired alphabet hanging decorations from Matalan.
However the LED lights from M&S actually blow my mind. Carnival lights for the tree! (Thanks Lorna for pointing them out to me). There was no ‘J’ when I went to order though so I’ll have to wait a while longer to get Mr C one.
On a more elegant front, Tamsin Seed’s gorgeous luxury glass baubles are personalised with mini gift tags and charms while Cheryl Rawlings beautiful hand painted baubles are an absolute treat. Get your name down quick though as she’s bound to be inundated with orders.
Over on NOTHS, how adorable is this wooden laser cut wreath custom made with your own messsage?
Finally I also love the personalised wooden place settings (complete with engraved fox) from Edge Inspired which are bound to impress your guests.
Rustic
Woodland features show no signs of going away this year. Cox and Cox’s Porcelain leaves are beautifully cast in three different shapes to adorn your tree.
A stunning winter centrepiece, this White Antler Candle Holder from TK Maxx would look fab on your dining or coffee table all year round.
I adore this zinc Star Topper from Rowen And Wren. A gorgeous statement for the top of your tree.
Over at Selfridges, their fabulous range includes a sweet wooden bird with glass bauble combining modern and rustic styling.
The White Company is synonymous with Christmas. I want to live in their brochure. Failing that perhaps I’ll just stock up on a load of their decorations including this adorable advent calendar. I’d like to imagine James stuffing it with presents for me for each day of advent. A girl can dream can’t she?
Finally the favourite of any rustic scene; everyone loves a bit of bunting. Next’s Fabric Script Bunting would be very sweet across a mantlepiece.
Playful
You can always count on Paperchase for some super fun tree trinkets and these flamingo ones don’t disappoint. I’m also a big fan of their neon gems too. Perfect if you’re embracing a bolder scheme this year.
For paper decorations then do check out Origami Est for paper folded stars in great shades.
If you like honeycomb balls then look no further than Hema. They have a really inexpensive selection of paper decor and this five-pack of bright balls is only £1.50. Yes really!
Oliver Bonas has a super duper cute range of wooden decorations with neon accents for scandi styling with a contemporary twist starting from £4. I particularly like the fox with his very dapper scarf.
Finally John Lewis have a charming little deer to hang from your branches for a good dose of kitsch.
Gold and Glam
For a modern-luxe look how about adding a couple of 3D Gold Stars from John Lewis? Very glam.
For a softer edge try John Lewis’ Glitter dipped feathers to add a magical edge to your tree for just a couple of quid.
Matalan have a bumper pack of chevron, dotted and starred contemporary baubles working out at just a £1 each.
If you’re planning on throwing a New Years eve bash then you have to get your hands on the ‘Tonight we’re going to party’ garland from Rockett St George. So. Much. Fun. Their gold porcelain star baubles are very stylish too.
And to finish off the round-up B&Q have a very stylish range of simple white and gold ceramic tree trinkets inscribed with ‘noel’ and ‘joy’.
So hopefully you’ve now got oodles of inspiration for your Christmas decor. What baubles and garlands have you got your eye on? Any new tree trinkets you’ve already purchased?

Best. Post. Ever. This has really made my day, thank you!
Jenn x
Haha Jenn! It’s one of my faves too 😉
Aww Jenn, so sweet! It was a team effort – lots of products suggested by the rest of the gang x
I second that!
So many lovely things I think I’m going to need a 2nd tree. Love the M&S letters and the link takes me straight to S so it’s clearly it’s a sign to get them immediately. I don’t have a themed tree as such, more of a collection from trips and travels over the years and I like to add a few new bits every year. We have a new addition this year to the family so will be added a few ‘first Christmas’ bits and pieces.
Oooh do share your ‘first christmas’ bits Steph. I have a couple I need to get for friends new arrivals x
I took full advantage of the mamas and papas 20% off last weekend and bought some bits from their new Christmas range http://www.mamasandpapas.com/range/christmas-decorations-keepsakes/12042/ . The snow globe is cute and reasonably priced I thought and a bit of glitter and music goes down well with my little miss. I’m sure they’ll do another discount weekend before Christmas, it seems to be the done thing now which is quite fine by me.
I also got a personalised decoration from NOTHS as well, a bit pricier but it is lovely. http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/chambersandbeau/product/personalised-baby-s-first-christmas-decoration
Ohhh I love so many of these! I was planning on having a second tree in the conservatory this year but wondered if I reallly needed it but this has totally swayed me to do it. Given my current copper obsession, I have just ordered 6 of the Wilkinson’s ornaments. Such good value!
Harriet we’re a two tree house too – one of which is always themed – last year it was metallics and then the other one is basically the combination of the last 30 years of mine and my sisters’ lives thrown haphazardly onto the tree. I’m never sure which one I like best…
I had a themed one, but over the years it’s gradually morphing into the tree at my Mums, which has things me and my sister picked ourselves and made from YEARS ago and always has coloured lights on and lametta…..I adore it as much as I did when I was little and to me it sums up Christmas…..tradition, family and a good helping of sparkle!
…….I did have white lights on my tree but even found myself looking at really kitsch coloured ones the other day….
I do try and keep the fireplace and stairs ect a little bit of more understated, but part of me sometimes just wants to go mad and have it like a slightly less outlandish grotto…..
There is just too much to chose from to pick one theme……I want it all!!
Yay. There was only three in my local Wilko so I snapped them up.
Love you’re having a second tree Harriet – very fancy x
Wow what a great round-up! We’re thinking about shaking up our decorations this year and this has given me lots of ideas 🙂 x
Glad to have given you some inspiration Katie x
I am so excited about Christmas this year, our first as a family of 3 and can’t wait to get the decorations up!
I moved house just after Christmas last year and in my 36 weeks pregnant wisdom decided I should throw all of my decorations out and buy new next year rather than put them in removal man. Madness considering they were all boxes up already!
I usually get a 7ft real tree (got to love high ceilings) so I’ve got a LOT of deccies to buy! ???☃
Big congrats on your first family of three Christmas x
I REALLY want those copper bells…..And I’ve already bought the White Company little house advent calendar 🙂 ….It’s for Mabel though, don’t imagine James will be stuffing it with trinkets for me any time soon!!!! x
Mabel will love the advent calendar. It’s adorable x
Love this post! I have already bought some of the M&S LED letters and really want the copper bell garland from Cox & Cox. Now I’ve seen the round up I also need a flamingo and some of those neon numbers. And maybe the advent calendar… (hears bank card weeping in distance)
You’re in for a very stylish Christmas Tracy! x
YES Lauren!! Bring on the Christmassy vibes. I’m another early Christmas planner, but hadn’t actually thought about it much this year. However, this has all totally changed after this post – lots of links clicked on, things will undoubtedly be purchased, just put our tree shopping in the diary, and have started frantically thinking of gift ideas. Christmas order is restored. Could you do another christmas wrapping post again this year? I loved your ideas last year. x
Hi Sian. Love that you love Christmas!
The lovely Lolly has already started working on a wrapping post for this year so hopefully we’ll be able to inspire you again x
I just ordered the two copper bell garlands, a set of copper candles and 24 birch decorations from Cox & Cox…..I did get 20% off with the code TREE2 though so I don’t feel too guilty 🙂 x
I’m in love with that antler holder from TK Maxx, all kinds of pretty! This is the very first Christmas that I won’t be spending with my parents and bro (not bad considering I’m over 30!) as they’ll be abroad so I’m really keen to make my house super Christmassy as it’s my FAVOURITE time of year. I want to still enjoy it even though my family won’t be there on the actual day (they’ll be there before and after though, jeez I’m such a baby) and one way to do that is to super prettify my house in the Christmas spirit. Thank you for this post!
Hooray for the chrimbo spirit Kate. It’s great you’ll be able to see your family at some point over the festive period x
Oh my gosh. I want to completely redo our tree now! We kind of have a traditional theme with lots of gingerbread men, red and white as it used to match my red curtains in the lounge (sad I know!). Said curtains have now gone so I feel it is time for a change but can’t quite face the expense. I also have some random really retro decorations that I had as a kid including the best ever ceramic cabbage patch kid angel! We are slowly morphing it in to a bit of Children’s Christmas tree with lots of fun animal decs for the girls so I think I may need to purchase a few of the wooden scarfed animals. Although surely the flamingos would go with gingerbread men??? Arghhhhh! xx
Love this post! I was in hobbycraft today and bought some wee hanging stars to decorate with “first Christmas” for my nephews and our son. I’m also planning on making them stockings but considering we’re gearing up for a move to my in-laws farmhouse (with plans for a new kitchen and bathroom before Christmas) I might be being a bit optimistic about how much crafting I’ll actually manage. With a 4 month old baby too, we might be lucky if we get the tree up never mind covered in hand made decorations! X
Aww M-J I remember when you first mentioned about moving to the farmhouse. Glad it’s all coming together now x
I fully committed to the scandi/playful/toyshop theme about 5 years ago and I’m not sure I can ever get out of it.
Our florist delivered an 8ft tree by mistake last year so I had to splurge on extra decs (excuses). It is so easy to do this look on a budget though, paperchains and pom poms galore look so ace thrown round the tree.
Fab post Lauren! So much gorgeousness xx
I LOVE this post – thank you!! I’ve just spent a small fortune at Wilko on their “Industrialist” range! Oh and that Next wreath… It’s my son’s first Christmas this year and I recently became obsessed with finding him an advent calendar which we could reuse every year. In the end I went for a monochrome one from Ferm Living which I thought when buying might be right up Lolly’s street.
Love a monochrome calendar Lizzie. Very chic x
