Back in the day, more often than not, I wore dresses to the office, however, right now, I’m favouring separates. Either a plain t-shirt worn under a tailored jacket, with skinny jeans and heeled boots, or a plain t-shirt worn with a patterned skirt or shorts. Which is all well and good but I currently only own one plain t-shirt (I have more than one t-shirt btw, but the rest are variously covered with slogans, logos, pictures or patterns).
Which means I’m on the hunt for a couple more. One grey, one white and perhaps one other. Maybe black. I don’t just want any old t-shirt though. I’m on the hunt for the perfect t-shirt. Which, for me, has a not-too-high but then again not-too-low round neck, a loose fit and possibly cap sleeves (although the cap sleeves are not a deal breaker). Price-wise I’m looking to spend not more than, hmm, £25, ideally less. Here’s my five fave finds…
Cos, £25
This is the neatest in fit and the shortest in length of the five I’ve picked, which probably makes it the best to layer under a tailored jacket. Comes in white, red and shadow blue (which sounds way better than just common or garden blue, no?!).

Mango, £6.99
A round neckline that hits the sweet spot between too high and too low, a loose fit and short, raw-edged sleeves give this tee a don’t care air that I like a lot. Comes in grey, black, white, yellow, orange and green.

Zara, £7.99
The higher-at-the-front lower-at-the-back asymmetric hem makes this tee a little bit different from the rest. Not quite business-at-the-front party-at-the-back, more classic-from-the-front, casual-at-the-back. Comes in black, white, khaki, white/sky blue stripe, white/navy stripe.

Warehouse, £14
Dark grey marl, a crew neck, boyish rolled up sleeves and a single pocket equals pretty close to perfect for me. Comes in grey or white/blue stripes.

Hush, £35
The kind of loose fit I love, plus a scoop neck and cap sleeves. The priciest of my picks but, as I know from experience, Hush pieces can be worn and washed over and over and still look good several years down the line. Comes in white, grey marl and hibiscus.

Ah Miranda the Hush T! The catalogue came through the post last week (I swear I never signed up for it….Ahem) and the portrait image of the landscape you have used here also shows the immense skirt and AMAZING boots. Now I want the entire outfit. Oh dear.
The T-shirt does indeed look perfect though!
Love the entire outfit too. The t-shirt does indeed appear to be perfect, just the right amount of slouch!
I got that surprise catalogue too Charlotte! I didn’t sign up either… they must just know something…!? The Hush one looks a gorgeous fit… but the Mango one… I love the exposed seam on the back… and £6.99 is a bit more perfect for my poorly bank balance this month.
I agree, the exposed seam on the back of the Mango tee is an unusual detail but really works. And the price is brilliant. I’ve bought a few tops from Mango in the past and they’ve always washed well.
I’ve got a few Hush tshirts over the years and they are still going strong. Amazing fit and wash really well. I bought their boyfriend jeans last week too which are also great, especially with a lovely fitted knit!
Good to hear Rebecca. I’ve lost count of how long I’ve owned my navy and white Hush PJs. It’s kind of annoying, I’d like to buy myself some new ones but theyre as good as new even after years of washing and wearing!
I love Hush and bought that particular T (a new line). It’s a lovely cut and fabric, but it is linen so this one’s handwash only! Even hand washing it did shrink a touch. Just something to watch out for – I still love it!
Oh dear, I’m not one for handwashing if I can help it Kate, thanks for the tip off!
I’m a huge fan of Everlane t-shirts – they’re super soft, was very well and have a really great slim but not tight fit. Plus they’re the perfect length, skimming my hip-bones (I have short legs and a fairly long torso!) My boy loves them too. Unfortunately they only sell in America at the moment, so we have to majorly stock-up during any trips over there (on all their clothes really – they’re wonderful). I’ve emailed them to tell them to come to Europe already!
I’m following Everlane on Instagram Anna! I love their aesthetic, but haven’t purchased anything yet. Good to hear the quality lives up to the pretty pictures!
I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post this but here is the link to Lavender Hill Clothing – http://www.lavenderhillclothing.com
