Trying to dress professionally in the hot heat of the summer can be a very tricky. I’m not sure about your office but in mine anything low cut or with thin straps is a no-no, therefore I find a wide strapped, round neck, sleeveless top or two is always handy at this time of year. Last week the ‘shell top’ was my friend. I have three in my capsule, all from previous years so in the interests of making this post a shopping feature, I’ve rounded up a few office-appropriate sleeveless tops from the high street.
- Zara has sweet embroidered detailing for a twist on a standard stripe.
- Not strictly a shell top but the ruffle adds a gorgeous update to a plainer style. Again from Zara which is always my go-to for office wear.
- Mango is also a great place to stop by for professional workwear with a flourish or two. Their ‘flowy blouse‘ with concealed buttons comes in a variety of patterns and I think the pale blue spot is my favourite.
- Also at Mango, is this super fun and stylish Knot Poplin top with decorative bow waist detail. I like it a lot.
- Let’s throw in another one from Mango shall we? A simple round neck with striking contrast finishing.
-
Now stripes and I are good buddies so I was very drawn to Asos’ black and white striped number with charming little buttons down the back. Also available in tan and pink too.
- The detailing on this scalloped shell top from Hobbs will leave you looking and feeling cool.
- Another stylish separate is Warehouse’s ruffle shell top with frills around the arm and v-neck detailing for a further bit of interest.
- For a delicate hint of colour, then how about Reiss’ Acorn Neck Detail Top
- If you mosey on down to Topshop you’ll find their classic Victoriana ruffled sleeveless top updated in a modern ditsy print.
You can shop the post below where I’ve added a few other shell and sleeveless tops too. What did you don for work during last week’s heatwave? Any tips you’d like to mention to keep us cool next time the sun heats up?

Oh blimey, I love a shell top… And literally all of these are gorgeous. Credit card bashing morning coming on! I have lots of lovely shell tops from Oasis, and they have been brilliant for the recent hot sticky days. Right… off for a browse 🙂
Oasis have really upped their game recently and their prints are so pretty. RMW Editor Fern had a gorgeous Oasis top on the other day. I just went on their site and there are loads more shell tops than there was when I pulled together this post. I always love a good ruffle!
That Zara Ruffle Top. Enough Said. ??????
It’s a beaut isn’t it? x
Pure linen or cotton is the only way to go – let your skin breathe.
Agreed. A long sleeve blouse in cotton will be cooler and fresher than any sleeveless top in an artificial fabric
That’s the fab thing about the Hobbs one. 100% linen and such sweet detailing too.
So true Siobhan. You have to ditch the polyester in these conditions! x
