According to the weather app on my phone it’s going to be a rainy week in London. I’m not too worried, it’s usually wrong. However, on the off chance it’s actually right this time and we all need a mood boost by the end of the week here’s an idea. Wear yellow. I can’t think of an easier way to cheer up even the gloomiest of days than by sporting something in a sunshiny hue. Here’s five happy-making buys I’ve found…
Boucle Coat, £75, Warehouse
Just looking at this canary yellow coat makes me want to skip down the street high fiving everyone coming the other way. Can you imagine what would happen if I actually bought it?! I really can’t think of a better way to wear it than with destroyed jeans and white Converse so I’m not going to waste your time suggesting anything.

Bow Collar Blouse, £25.99, Zara
Worn with smart ankle-grazing trousers this blouse is a no brainer for work, but it would look just as good dressed down with jeans. The choice, as they used to say on some gameshow or another, is yours.

A classic jumper shape in a not-so-classic colour, this V neck is the perfect way to give your weekend wardrobe a sunny disposition. Even better it’s in the sale, reduced from £65 to £40. See? Instant happiness!

What’s your favourite happy-making colour or cheer-yourself-up tip? Sunshine yellow shades a yay or a nay? Do share below!
I had been wanting a yellow coat for the longest time and I spotted one in River Island last week so bought it for all of the reasons you listed above! It will cheer up these bleak start of the year days and also take me through in to spring. So far I have worn it with a rather muted black, grey white pallet.
I agree a yellow coat is the perfect cheer-you-up-thru-winter take-you-into-spring cover up and is the perfect piece to lift a black, grey and white palette Bryony.
Just purchased the mustard blouse from Zara, cheered me up :-)!
Marlene! I want the blouse!
I love it too!
I love yellow but it doesn’t love being next to my pale skin sadly. I have made up for it though by having a bright yellow satchel which is my day bag – it certainly brightens up the day to day commute to London!
I’ve often steered away from yellow clothes because I feel lots of shades don’t work on blondes Caroline. I love the colour though so yellow accessories and nail polish are the way I incorporate it into my look, although that blouse does is totally working on the blonde model…
Ooh, I’m loving all these yellow things, I think I need some yellow in my life! What a good way to brighten up the winter wardrobe! I’d disagree that blondes can’t pull off yellow – have you seen Naomi Watts in her Golden Globes dress? She looks amazing! X
You make a very good point Emma, Naomi Watts did indeed look amazing in yellow at the Golden Globes! X
I love all of these especially the bag! Maybe yellow is the new orange (my previous citrus colour of choice) 😉
I’m loving the bag too Lynn, I’m also a fan of orange, it’s the only colour in amongst all the white, grey and wood around my flat!
I love Yellow but it doesn’t really suit my skin tone so I just have to stick with accessories. I have a bright yellow Cambridge Satchel which I love to carry when it’s dreary outside!
Your yellow Cambridge Satchel sounds awesome Alex, I love the contrast of the classic style with a zingy colour!
