Have you ever noticed how all of the pastel hues tend to be food related? Mint, lemon, peach, sorbet…After researching for this post I have come to the conclusion that the reason for this is that pastels are just good enough to eat. Sorry for the dad-pun.

Now pastels are not a collection of colours that usually make it into my wardrobe. However as you can see from the slider above, pastels look ace with greys and whites and denim. If you’re looking for a way to inject a bit of summer into your wardrobe then I reckon ice cream hues are the way forward.

Mint Green

There’s an abundance of minty green tops and shirts available at the moment. I waxed lyrical about this slouchy pocket blouse in Lolly’s round up of our summer staples so you can imagine my delight when Topshop released it in a mint hue. Also lovely is this slightly shorter version. According to the reviews you should buy a size down. Which is always a nice thing to do. If you’re after a paler, more subtle mint then this shirt from Dorothy Perkins is a beaut. And if you like your frill and ruffles then pop into Zara for one of these sheer tulle tops.

If it’s a shirt dress you’re after then you might want to invest in one of these Azul printed shirt dresses from Oliver Bonas. You can always rely on Oliver Bonas for great colour and beautiful quality.

Topshop have clearly got their mint game going on … check out this gorgeous lingerie with pretty coral flower details. Loving the racer back.

Baby Blue

The cold shoulder trend is still going strong and the nicest bardot top I’ve seen is this stripe cotton version from Dorothy Perkins. I love the way it’s been styled with white trousers and silver sliders. Very French Riviera.

When I’m not in the office I pretty much live in skinny jeans and stripy tees so this relaxed cotton T shirt in baby blue from Cos is right up my street. And for a bargain, head to Forever 21…this tee in ‘taupe’ is almost identical to the Cos version but it’s only a fiver! They also have it in mauve which is just as pretty.

And I’m seriously considering purchasing this Topshop wrap midi dress in blue for when I’m in the office. It solves that dilemma of what to wear in the summer but still look smart. It’s super stylish and flattering and I also adore the nude and ivory versions. Eek! I’ve just noticed they do it in grey too…

Patterned Pastels

I seriously heart this maxi from & Other Stories which is the header image in the slider above. If you haven’t come across & Other Stories yet, which is part of the H&M group, then a peruse of their website is in order. I love H&M and Stories is like H&M’s older and slightly more glamorous sister. I am sorely tempted to buy the maxi for a wedding we’re going to in September. It’s been reduced from £65 to £33 which seems too good to be true so I probably need to snap it up quick!

In the same range is this Pastel Paradise wrap dress. I love the flared skirt, the contrasting black waist band, and the almost flapper-style shape.

Over at The Kooples they’ve also got some serious price reductions going on, including this silk number with a beautiful botanic print and delicate ladder detailing. It comes in deep black too if you’re not taken by the ‘luminous ecru’ version.

Peachy Pinks

Another little number that’s in the sales is this cutwork frill dress from Miss Selfridge. With its boho vibe and Bardot neckline it is bang on trend and the perfect beach cover-up.

I have also popped this M&S maxi into my virtual shopping basket with the September wedding in mind. It’s a dreamy peachy hue and looks comfy but flattering.

Lemon Yellow

If you’re a fan of fifties fashion then you may want to check out this Asos sundress in a soft yellow hue. Just look at the tie-back bow detailing! Gorgeous.

And the total bargain of the day goes to this lemon print tee from La Redoute which is a mere £5.20. It’s a ‘softly draping’ cut so I reckon it would suit most shapes and sizes. It’s also available in stripes (various colourways) and a pineapple print. Yikes. What to spend my money on? The £33 Stories dress or six of these bargainous tees?!

So that’s my round up of pastel prettiness. Do you lovely lot wear ice cream hues? Are there any other items to throw into the mix? Don’t be shy…
