My wardrobe is full-to-bursting with grey clothes. (I recently surmised that this might be for practical as well as aesthetic reasons – you can put most grey clothes in either a whites or a darks wash!) But enough about my laundry habits. I’ve recently been buying a few pieces of non grey apparel, and they are predominantly khaki.
Khaki hues and military inspired fashion never seem to go out of style. I think that’s probably because khaki is such a versatile colour that it looks good with not only your neutral tones, but also with pops of colour. Plus, it perfectly complements denim. It’s also a shade that transcends all seasons…like grey, it’s practical. Most of the pieces I’ve picked will look great not only right into autumn and winter but also year on year. Why not treat yourself. Ah go on, it’s payday tomorrow, and what’s more, lots of them are in the sale…
Tops and Tees
In Lolly’s round up this week of our favourite summer staples she signposted me to Cos for stripy tees. I am very glad she did so because Cos are killing it with their khaki clobber at the moment. As well as this frill dress which I will talk about shortly, I found this simple-but-stunning colour block T shirt and this 3-way stripe T shirt.
You can’t go wrong with a denim shirt and I am all over this Kooples number. I love the fact that it is cut slightly shorter than your average shirt, but not to the extent that it is ‘cropped’. Tres rock and roll.
Not so rock and roll but still very covetable is this Dolman sleeve cardie from Mango. It’s fine knit so will see you right through the summer and on into autumn.
Fancy Frocks
If you are off on your holidays soon then there are a lot of khaki dresses that you need be stuffing into your suitcase. This tiered cami dress and maxi dress are ultra versatile in that you could quite easily wear them on the beach, or on a day trip, or whilst sipping cocktails…which takes me to this Marrakesh Dress which was recommended by my glam friend Amy. It makes me think of enjoying a Cosmopolitan with the sand between my toes and watching the sun set.
I would be saving this Cos frill dress for the last night of the holiday (anyone else save their best outfit til last?!)
If you read my post on five cool skirts then you will know that I was pondering whether denim flippy skirts were the new pinafore dress for my wardrobe. I can confirm they are, and consequently I need this braces flippy dress from Mango in my life! This is yet another perfect holiday dress as it’s lightweight and practical yet stylish.
For the journey there, I would be choosing either this ribbed long dress from Mango or this Oasis pleated V neck number. Ultra comfy and ideal for travelling in. Best of all both are in the sale and only £20.
Summery jackets
You can’t get through a British summer without a cover up. A couple of months ago I treated myself to this Zara jacket and it has not let me down. There are a lot of different shades of khaki but this grassy green hue is definitely my favourite. I love the contrasting black hood detail which makes it a little different from all the other millions of parkas out there. Also…it’s currently in the sale at £39.99…kind of wish I had waited!
Another recent purchase that I have made is this Topshop shacket. (Can you tell I am a sucker for khaki outerwear?) Not sure when the term shacket was coined but I like it. This one is a bit warmer than a shirt but lighter than a jacket. I love the boxy shape and it looks ace with denim. I am also rather tempted by the camo version…
Trousers and Shorts
I personally think the cream of the khaki crop are these Hilfiger tapered trousers (another recommendation from Glam Amy…thanks Amy!). They’re a little bit on the spendy side, so I’m gutted that unlike a lot of the other pieces in this post, they’re not in the sale, but you just know that they would be excellent quality and wearable year on year.
For a more formal choice of trews I thought these paperbag trousers were the bee’s knees and a great option for summery workwear. And they ARE in the sale. As are these cute Beach Day Shorts from Anthropologie. I assure you that they are womenswear, despite the Anthro model’s babyfaced appearance.
Lingerie and Shoes
Charlotte waxed lyrical about her pretty new lingerie on Instagram last week so I was delighted when I noticed that Topshop also sell a khaki version. According to Mrs O’Shea it is pretty yet comfortable, and if you’re not taken by khaki or coral then it’s also available in black, blue, bubblegum pink and raspberry.
And if I haven’t convinced you that khaki clothes are the way forward then why not just dip your toe, literally, into these cross strap sandals, or the Rock My Ltd favourite Superga trainers in Sherwood Green. Be quick though, both are in the sale and selling like hot cakes…
Do you ladies wear khaki? Have you seen any bargains in the sales that I need to be treating myself to?
Oh dear Lisa. I NEED that Mango cardigan (and maybe the navy version too). Their very helpful website tells me it is in stock in the Belfast branch, which is conveniently located next door to Topshop. So now I can treat myself to the cardi and that shirt from the other day’s post in one go! They will be mine.
Loving khaki at the minute too – I think it’s a fab colour for summer as it goes really well with all the light neutrals as well as brights. Those Tommy Hilfiger trousers are lovely. I’d be buying them too if I hadn’t found a similar J Brand style on Yoox for a bargainous £32. At that price it would have been rude not to. 😉
Tracy M my thoughts exactly 🙂
Not sure why all store websites don’t have the function that tells you whether an item is in stock, it’s an essential!
How have I not come across Yoox before? Definitely going to have a browse on my lunch break x
BIG lover of khaki over here! That Warehouse dress even fits the bump btw 😉 Double yay. Literally loving everything in the slider especially that Topshop underwear! x
Yey for clothes that double up as maternity fashion! x
I want all of it!! And love Khaki 🙂 Cannot wait until baby arrives and I (eventually) fit in normal clothes again…
Maike maybe you should treat yourself so you have something new to look forward to wearing when baby is here 😉 x
Love khaki.
Buy it whenever I can find a really great piece to add to my wardrobe as it works well with my pale skin and brown/blond hair.
Invested in the Boden limited edition khaki jacket with embellishments earlier this year. One of the most expensive things I’ve ever bought but have worn it most weeks so far and I love it. Totally worth it.
If you haven’t seen it, you can here 🙂 http://blog.boden.co.uk/readysetshopicons/
I think that’s one of the best things about khaki…it suits most skin tones and hair colours.
That Boden jacket is a beaut. In fact the whole of that Boden icons range is downright gorgeous. x
I’ve never really worn Khaki and I’m not even sure why as I love it. Everything is beaut Lisa, especially that Mango flippy skirt xxx
Try it Lorna, bet it suits you! I thought of you when I came across that flippy skirt 🙂 x
🙂 xx
