When I was growing up nice girls didn’t really wear animal prints. They were considered a bit, well, brassy, the kind of thing Bet Lynch off of Coronation Street wore. These days of course they’re so ubiquitous as to be practically a neutral.
The animal print pieces currently in my wardrobe include, but are not limited to, a swingy short-sleeved dress from American Apparel, a pair of Topshop running-style shorts, a Vero Moda sweatshirt and a pair of Stella McCartney for Adidas yoga pants. And yet still I want more. Here’s five animal print pieces I’m coveting right now…
Pencil skirt, £14.99, H&M
My favourite piece from the Topshop AW14 campaign starring Cara Delevingne is the short leopard print skirt. It’s not on sale yet and so, if you’re anything like me, and once you’ve decided you want something you want it, like, now, head to H&M and buy their longer-but-no-less-sexy version.

Backpack, £55, Eastpak at ASOS
Ever since I bought a bike last Autumn I’ve gotten back into rucksacks in a big way. This sporty-meets-animal-print backpack ticks off two trends in one and is just the right size for carrying all my essentials. I can’t not buy it, can I?!
You can buy it here
Socks, £8, Happy Socks
I’m not usually one for novelty socks but rules, especially self-imposed fashion rules, are made to be broken, which is why I’ll be adding at least one pair of animal print Happy Socks to my otherwise plain collection.
You can buy them here
Sneakers, £44.99, Converse at Office
There are some people who religiously buy the same white low top Converse again and again. That’s so not my style. Instead I switch between plain and patterned versions in various colours as the mood takes me. These black, white and grey snow leopard low tops are high on my wish list.
You can buy them here
Top, £28, ASOS
If wearing an animal print top, skirt or dress feels a bit full on but you’d still like to add an animal print item to your wardrobe, this animal print collared top is a subtle nod to the trend.

Anyone else out there partial to an animal print too? Have you spotted, or purchased, any animal print pieces lately? I’d love to know!

I am going to throw a spanner in the works. I cannot wear animal print. And although I can appreciate it on others somehow it just doesn’t work for me. I wonder if it’s because it reminds me of when I used to have to wear a completely hideous uniform when I worked for “Morgan” as a teenager, all cheap leopard print fabric mini skirts (itchy) and a Zebra boob tube….
Hmm, it certainly sounds as if your teenage Morgan experience could be behind your lack of love for leopard, zebra and animal prints generally…
I know! yet this incredibly cool looking gorgeous girl walked into Joe and the Juice some months back whilst I was there with my friend Kelly (the one near Oxford street) wearing the hugest (dare I say it Bette Lynch-esque?) leopard print fur coat and she looked AMAZING.
I’m the same Charlotte – I think certain animal prints look good on others but they look ridonculous on me!
I am pro animal print! I have it on sweatshirts, dresses, skirts, shoes – I love it! Although my husband is not really a fan – that doesn’t put me off though!
Phew, glad to know I’m not the only one out there, Bryony. I think the only thing I don’t have is a skirt, which is why I’ll be adding either the H&M or Topshop one to my collection!
I’m a leopard-print obsessive and proud of it. Bette Lynch, I channel thee.
Lauren…was it you in Joe and The Juice?
Hours of watching Coronation Street growing up definitely influenced my wardrobe Lauren, although I don’t do giant earrings…
Lauren W, me too! I currently have three pairs of leopard shoes, one coat and three tops. I obviously now need a skirt too….
I have a pair of leopard print flats which I’m completely in love with. But that’s it! Never was a huge animal print fan until recently. Although I’ve now got my eye on that Topshop skirt…!
I had a much loved pair of leopard prints too Jo, but they’ve long since been consigned to shoe heaven. I’m always on the lookout for another pair…
[…] pieces belong together. Who am I to argue?! Also, animal print… (for more animal print buys click here). The colour I’ve got doesn’t appear to be available online, although I only bought it […]
