The item of clothing I can’t stop wearing during these tricky-to-dress-for is-it-summer-or-is-it-autumn days is a red, blue and yellow checked shirt I bought on holiday in Japan a couple of years ago. I’m mostly throwing it on jacket-style over t-shirts and vest tops. If I get too hot I tie it round my waist or stuff it into my bag as it doesn’t take up much room. In fact I’m wearing it so much I’d quite like another one. Here’s five that caught my eye…

Check shirt, £39, Esprit at ASOS

My fave of the bunch, the addition of black lace alongside the buttons and at the cuffs is a pretty and unexpected detail.

Checked Shirt, £29.99, Zara

The rolled-up elbow-length sleeves make Zara’s red and blue take on the checked shirt stand out from the crowd in a totally good way. Love it styled with the sunnies for that I’m IN the band attitude.

Oversized Check Shirt, £30, Topshop

Topshop’s red, blue and yellow version proves that the checked shirt can work just as well with a skirt as it does with jeans.

Check Shirt, £34.99, Mango

Mango’s red, white and black shirt which is heavy on the white is a good choice if you’d prefer your shirt to be a bit less bold.

Cotton Shirt, £14.99, H&M

H&M’s version of the check shirt is feminine, figure-fitting and at £14.99 a blimmin’ bargain to boot.
