Ok, so I’ve now seen everything. A coat that doubles up as a sleeping bag? At the risk of sounding like my gran, what is the world coming to?! I mean, I’m all up for stepping out the door in a garm as WARM as a sleeping bag, but an ACTUAL sleeping bag?!
Here are some more coats which are a little less crazy but just as cosy.
All Saints
Ohhh my goodness. How beautiful are All Saints coats and why hasn’t anyone told me about them before? Look at the ruching on the Kenzie…so unusual. And what I love about the Ripley check coat is the fact that you can wear it with or without the belt. Just adding that small detail gives it a totally different shape. It’s basically two coats in one.
Topshop
My best ever Topshop buy was a long khaki parka with a fur trim a couple of years back. It cost £95 but as you could remove the padded fur lining and wear the outer layer as a lightweight parka on its own it could be worn throughout the seasons. Cost per wear probably worked out as being pence. I am clinging on to it for dear life but I’ve worn it so much that holes are pretty much appearing. They sold a similar one in H&M last winter but it just wasn’t as comfy. So if anyone sees it restocked in Topshop at any time soon please let me know IMMEDIATELY. And in the meantime, how lovely are the coats that are masquerading as dressing gowns? This Topshop one is my favourite.
New Look
Around this time every year I am tempted to buy a faux fur number for the run-up to Christmas. I think they look SO chic and slinky and cosy. But I worry that I won’t get much wear out of it after the festive period. Am I being ridiculous? Do you get much wear out of yours? The best I’ve seen so far is this New Look one.
Oliver Bonas
Oliver Bonas have gone all military on us in their range of jackets. I would quite happily wear each and every one of the coats on their website.
John Lewis
Designer Eudon Choi has recently teamed up with John Lewis and his coats are to die for. My favourite is this minimalist wrap front number, but I also love the unusual placement of Eudon’s signature ruffle on this frill hem coat. The whole range looks beautifully cut and oh-so-toasty.
H&M
Leopard print lovers unite… There is a new must-have jacket in town. When I saw this one I immediately texted one of my work colleagues and told her that she needed it in her life. And for those of you who are still lusting after the Joules leopard print Chelsea boots, well these ones from Next are nearly as nice.
Which one’s your favourite? Would you wear a sleeping-bag coat?
Oooh lovely selection 🙂 I didn’t know about those All Saints coats either Lisa – They are gorgeous! By the way also love the Eudon Choi one with the frill hem and I had seen this previously but somehow need to justify the cost!
Thanks Nicola! I knew All Saints did good biker jackets but I didn’t know their other coats were just as lovely. x
Lisa, I bought a furry coat years ago and wore it to death. My friend nicknamed it Teddy Edward as it was so soft. I even went on the plane to Iceland with a ski jacket over the top to escape baggage allowance restrictions so I could have a nice jacket to ‘go out’ in.
Anyway two years ago I bought a lovely leopard jacket and since then Teddy Edward sadly hasn’t seen the light of the day. Leopards win for me hands down.
Lauren this has made me want a fur jacket AND a leopard one 🙈
Concerned that Topshop have ripped off something I read about in the news last year. There was a young girl who designed a coat for the homeless that was long and at night they could zip it up to sleep in. She made these and handed them out to the homeless in her town. Shame if they have ripped of her design for a good cause. Wouldn’t surprise me with Topshop though.
I used to have a bit of a winter coat addiction but have curbed it to buying a more expensive but classic fit to last me longer. I love the grey wrap coat but do I need it…
Oh that explains it then Helen…yes that would be a shame.
The grey wrap coat is lush isn’t it x
I’m sticking with last year’s winter parka that I got from Monsoon. It is so warm and has internal toggles so you can draw the waist in for a more fitted shape. I’ve not seen any coats that stand out on the Monsoon website this year but the I have found the quality to be amazing and well worth the money. I just need some colder weather so I can wear my lovely parka!
Great shout…I may have to pop in to Monsoon at the weekend! x
Lisa I think I have the exact same Topshop parka. Probably the best clothing item I have ever bought!
Mine is also about to fall apart 😒. I’ve been searching since last winter for a replacement…
I’ve seen this in joules. But at £200 I just can’t bring myself to order it to see if it is the ‘one’.

Vicky what are you doing to me?! That is the one! x
I bought this one earlier in the year when Joules had 25% off – I love it! My tip would be to size down though – it comes up large.
You’re not helping Katie! Although in now going to stalk joules for 25% off offers !
Gap have a couple of good ones too…
I’m sure you all need to know! I have bought the coat and it arrived today. Flipping amazing.
I got 25%off plus Quidco cashback so it worked out about £150. Which is still a lot but less scary!
I sized up as I’m very tall and wanted a bit more room.
Vicky I have ordered one and am picking up tomorrow! Very excited. x
Lisa it’s amazing. I almost dm’ed you on Instagram to tell you about it!
Ooh i’m deciding whether to invest in a leopard print coat… am just slightly worried the entire playground will think Pat Butcher has turned up.
I visited Ikea recently and we had a giggle trying on this: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/textiles-rugs/blankets-throws/ikea-ps-2017-throw-with-zipper-dark-blue-art-50340479/?cid=gb%7Cem%7C328560%7C%7C2017Feb08%7C
Not sure it’ll catch on anytime soon, but it does look cosy 🙂
I say you should go for a leopard print coat Nicola. Just don’t team it with massive earrings 😉

I must have ordered and tried about 15+ coats this year (including the Hush green one, which was too long, didn’t fit the top half and not the right shade of green 🙁 very disappointing). I have ended up with two from M&S, a black wool mid-sized thigh length biker type coat, and a leopard one which falls just above the knee. Very pleased with both of them!
If it’s the same leopard one I’m thinking of (a bargainous £69), it’s lush. I want the houndstooth check one.
Thanks Sputnikki! It is lovely and a bargain price! Glimpsed the houndstooth one, looked fabulous too.

Both of these sound lovely Caroline xx
My first expensive coat was by All Saints – I loved it, such good quality and I wore it for years. I bought one from Bicester reduced from £400 to £80 (!) and it will be perfect for pregnancy as it doesn’t require doing up yet it’s very slimming 🙂 x
Charlotte how do you always manage to find these designer bargains?! x
