I don’t know about you but I find taking my make-up brushes anywhere is a right pain in the arse. The handles are so long…unless I organise my cosmetics bag in a certain way they will be poking out and I can’t zip the ruddy thing up.
I’ve not been living under a rock or anything, I know there are some shorter handled more portable sets around, I used to have a travel collection from MAC myself a few years ago. But they were spendy. And limited edition. The handles were not actually that short and I only ever used 3 out of the 5 pieces which seemed a waste.
You’ve probably read my reviews on brushes by Real Techniques before – they are amazing quality and super value, I have several…surprise! But I only discovered this mini mini set a few weeks ago. They are so portable and so useable I could throw a party simply to celebrate their existence. The actual “brush head” aspect are smaller than usual but I have found this actually offers more precision, I use the “foundation” brush to apply concealer, the “face” brush to apply blusher (I “pull” it across my cheekbone and blend – it’s the perfect size/shape) and the eyeshadow brush for um…eyeshadow! I use it to apply colour to the upper lid and highlight underneath the lower lid too.
Well you said you wanted bargain beauty recommendations so here’s my latest folks, three amazing perfectly travel friendly brushes for under a tenner. You can buy yours at Boots.
What are your travel favourites?
Have you noticed you can purchase mini versions of more high end mascaras recently? I think it’s a fab idea, a much smaller investment to make to ensure you actually like something.
Also if anyone can recommend a smallish but with pockets/well designed make-up bag that is easy-ish to keep clean I will love you forever!
Ooo, love these!! I have a teeny tiny make up bag so just cope without foundation when I’m away (I use Bare Minerals and the pot and brush are huge). I knew there was a good reason for buying our car seat through Boots, lots of points to spend 🙂
PS just read some of the reviews on Boots online – “they’re too small” – what were people expecting?!
Ha ha ha!!!! honestly, what else would “MINI” brushes be?!
Omg, I could have done with these this morning at 4.30 when I was packing my overnight bag for a work trip. I’ve only just managed to squash my full size ones into my bag 🙁
Gracie they are brill – well worth £9.99!
Morning all,
Charlotte I’m not sure how pockety you’re thinking, but I bought my ‘K’ make up bag from Oliver Bonas last year, and its such the best handbag-size make up bag. Two little pockets inside, but also there’s a little metal frame thing around the zips so you can open it up and it stays open for easy rummaging. There’s space for all your essentials without being too big.
Perfect x
this one… https://www.oliverbonas.com/accessories/alphabet-make-up-bag-14158?option=14160 xx
This looks perfect Karen! and I would never have known it had pockets as it doesn’t say in the description, only £12.50 as well!
Um…now I want LOTS of things from Olver Bonas ( my favourite mug is from there) x
I’ll inbox you a pic of the pockets on FB so you can see if they’re any good before you buy. They’re only little!
They um… do a bigger version with flamingos on. Just thought i’d drop that in for you xx
FLAMINGOES? And there was me trying to not buy anything else this month….. 🙂
I don’t use make up brushes everyday, but when I do, my standard size ones are a nightmare to use! I’m really short-sighted so without my glasses I have to get right up and personal with the mirror – a large brush handle just doesn’t work, especially for eye shadow and when I have to bend my hand to do my left eye! I might just have to invest in these for the rare occasions I do get the brushes out!
Jo, I use brushes more now I have these (!) I used to use my fingers more often – love the foundation brush for under eye concealer particularly x
Yesssss!!!… *buys instantly*
I use Real Techniques, these are perfect for honeymoon packing, thankyou!
Katie x
Ha ha pleasure! x
I’m pretty sure that there is no such thing as a make up bag that is pretty AND easy to clean. Its like the holy grail of makeup.
Techy point – even if I ctrl + click on links from the comments, it takes me away from the RMS page onto whatever the link is for. Mildly irritating (and presumably bad for you as people navigating away from RMS)
I’m using Chrome btw if that makes any difference
I have the same issue too Claire but I use Microsoft Explorer. Would be better to have links configured so that they open up a new tab, rather than navigate away from the page you are currently viewing!
Same in Safari! I always get lost wondering where RMS went (easily confused). I try to right click then ‘open in new tab’ but it’d be easier not too!
Hi Claire, Emma and Kate, thanks for your feedback. Adam is looking into something fancy to sort this.
As the links are posted directly by you guys in the comments box we currently can’t make them automatically open in a new window. Will hopefully fix soon x
Thanks for the reply Lauren! I find it happens in the main text too – I actually thought it happened to all links on the site as standard, as that has been my experience. In the piece above, the first opens in a new tab and the second navigates away from RMS. (for me)
Oh thanks for mentioning Kate. We can definitely sort the ones within the post! We’ll take a look x
These don’t have pockets (at least the small ones don’t, not sure on the bigger ones) but Longchamp make up bags are ace, in all colours and you can pop them in the washing machine and they come up like new! A little spendy at £25 though.
On the link thing – right click and “open in a new tab” 🙂
Not long ago I purchased a make up brush pouch from Boots. I think it was £10. You can fit several brushes in and they are each held in place by a separate strip of elastic. It folds over so it is not too big and is made of oil cloth so is wipe clean. It’s very pretty too in a Cath Kidston style print.
I have been looking for new make up brushes for a few weeks since I left mine in a hotel (D’OH), but I just hate buying them when they are super expensive and enormous and I just haven’t seen anything good. These are fab AND they stock them in Australia (https://www.priceline.com.au/brands/rtech) so HOORAY!!!
