We’ve mentioned several times the Rock My Style team are fans of Netflix. It’s only a recent addition to the Coleman household but we have devoured both series of House of Cards and have been eagerly awaiting series three.
So much so we’re joining our friends for a marathon viewing session when the new series launches tonight. Accompanied by a good bottle of red and a tasty takeaway, we’ll be socialising by ensuring complete silence devouring several episodes.
If you’re not au fait with House of Cards then you need to get yourself acquainted with Netflix’s groundbreaking political drama, charting the rise of the power couple, The Underwoods. This duo will stop at nothing to achieve their goals and it makes compelling viewing.
Charlotte may be obsessed with Gillian Anderson and her blouse collection in The Fall, but personally I am transfixed by Robin Wright. I hope calculated and conniving women like Claire Underwood don’t really exist, but for the purpose of television her character is nothing short of fascinating. Can we just talk about her wardrobe? Taking workwear to a whole new level, Mrs Underwood’s closet is tailored to fit to perfection. Those dresses! Those glasses! Those shoes! Flipping heck this woman dresses like she means business.
The rest of my weekend includes a trip to see the family and a catch up with friends. What are you up to? Anyone else bingeing on House of Cards or will you be doing something more productive? Whatever your plans involve have a fab weekend enjoying the last days of February!
LOVE House of Cards. Been waiting for this new series to be on Netflix. We have a night out planned tonight but the weekend will include episodes! Claire Underwood, truly awesome….pipped slightly by Olivia Pope in Scandal I would say – both have enviable work wear!!
Still haven’t seen Scandal Rach. I’ve heard great things about Olivia’s wardrobe though. Definitely one for my long list of things to watch.
Once you get started with it, you’ll be hooked!
Olivia Pope is my hero!! Amazing clothes and absolutely kick ass! Scandal is well worth watching x
I am equally obsessed and have been counting the days for series 3 to be released. I love House of Cards, and Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are just brilliant. I am also fascinated by Clare Underwood. In my head that is how I look at work, rather than the slightly crumpled, wild haired, brogue wearer that I am! The plot is gripping and the characters are so deliciously duplicitous and devious that once I watched one episode I was hooked. I also enjoyed the original BBC adaptation with Ian Richardson as Francis Urquhart back in the 90s. It’s quite different to the U.S. version in a lot ways though the plots have similarities, it is definitely worth a watch if you can find it.
Thanks Sophie, I’ll have a hunt for the BBC one.
Oh thank you, you’ve just cleared this up! I got given a DVD of the original series so was confused by this post and ref to American actors. Will try and watch both!
I’ve been banging on about House of Cards to anyone who’ll listen! My parents just got Netflix too and I of course made some recommendations and HoC has become a favourite of theirs too – so much so that they’ve been doing 2 episodes a night to catch up ready for season 3!
Totally agree re Claire Underwood – chilling but so stylish!
I’m trying to get my parents to get Netflix too. We did two episodes last night too to get ready for tonight!
Even the way she wears her dressing gown/robe and casually drapes it over the end of the bed is done with style!! I can’t say I completely follow and understand all the US government terminology but it had me and my husband hooked so much we had to rush through the last few episodes before our baby arrived last summer!
If I happen to look at my phone for a few minutes I completely miss what’s going on. Half of the time I haven’t got a clue what they’re talking about. Still love it though 😉
We did that the other week, had our friends round for dinner and then had a marathon Walking Dead session! Me and Al are all up to date but our friends wanted to get caught up so we watched 4 episodes in one sitting to complete Season 1!
This weekend I’ve got my uni housemates round for a long overdue catch up, and cooking a big roast for us all on Sunday lunchtime, after softball training in the morning. That’s if my lower back/butt muscle injury is better by then!
Ouch, hope your injury gets better soon Kitty x
Perfect timing. Rob and I were only saying last night that we need another series to get stuck into. I love House of Cards – it almost feels like Frank and Claire are wrapping the viewer around their finger along with the other characters!
My weekend involves decluttering. Lauren you are a bad influence with your inspirational posts! I bought a lovely new wardrobe a couple of weeks ago so I’m having a fresh start and only clothes that fit and I wear are going in it. My local charity shops will be in for a treat.
Sorry for being a bad influence Claire!
Our binge watching is Breaking Bad, we started the first series absolutely ages ago and then somehow let the rest pass us by?! (Was probably when we were obsessing over watching all the 24 series – LOVED that)
Anyhoo, we finally had series five pop through the door this week all the discs….Eeeeee! So give us a week & finally we may have caught up! Tooo excited to see how it all ends!
As for this weekend, tonight I will be spending the evening channelling my inner Gwen Stefani at Rockaoke in Kings Cross – if you haven’t been you NEED to! Karaoke with a rock band instead of backing track…..yup you can pretend your in a rock band! It’s amazing! The question is do I go all out with red lippy and cute stick-on bindi?! 😉
Have a fab weekend lovelies xxx
This sounds brilliant!!! So much fun. Have a great time, and obviously the red lippy is required. x
We had a trial with Netflix last year but we kind of ran out of good things to watch but now there seems to be a host of new things to watch!!
This weekend – tonight post work drinks with work chums followed by dinner with a friend. Tomorrow pottering about and watching the rugby (come on Scotland!) and chilling at night. Sunday we are heading to my parents to watch more rugby – Ireland v England game (hubbies is English, Mum has Irish roots eek – can you tell rugby is a big family thing for us?) and then going out for an Indian meal.
Nice weekend of socialising but with a chilled Saturday – purfect 🙂
I often wonder if we’ll run out of things to watch Lynn, especially if you binge watch and devour a whole series in a week!
Have a great weekend x
we have house of cards but yet to watch it! Was worried it would be too political, we did actually watch the first episode ages ago but then stopped and need to go back to it! We are on hol this week and next and have got through both seasons of the fall and started on th good wife which we are loving! Also got the sopranos to watch and something called Oz which is new to me. Will def go back to house of cards though after reading all these comments! Some nice rose and pizza tonight for good wife marathon before heading home tomorrow from our lovely cottage 🙁 xx
Charlotte has only watched the first episode and I’m hoping Miranda and I have convinced her to watch the first series.
Hope you enjoyed your Good Wife marathon x
I recently discovered house of cards and binged on the first few episodes (I was totally hooked) but then stopped as couldn’t believe the length Frank was willing to go to with Rosso. Having read this post I think I need to start watching it again though!
My husband and I are off to Rye for a romantic weekend staying at The George. I can’t wait as I’ve wanted to go ever since I read the post about it on RockMyWedding!
Ooooh the George – fab. Hav a wonderful time x
We have Netflix but have yet to watch House of Cards (hangs head in shame).
Our house has literally just gone on the market today so we have the estate agents coming to take photos (cue frantic last minute cleaning!), hopefully we’ll get to do some house hunting and then I have a girls night out tomorrow to celebrate my best friends 30th.
Should be an interesting weekend.
Good luck with the house sale Alex. Have a fab time tonight. x
