Sorry to quote Julie Andrews at you on a Friday morning, however brown-paper-packages-tied-up-with-string really are one of my favourite things. At the risk of sounding like a crazed Christmas elf, I love shopping for presents, choosing the perfect present, making presents, and wrapping presents. And of course giving them.
So as you can probably imagine, I am very much looking forward to the Christmas gift wrapping session that will be taking place on my living room floor at some point this weekend. The fairy lights will be twinkling, Lyra will be tucked up in bed, and Heart Christmas will be on the telly. This present wrapping extravaganza is going to incorporate several rolls of kraft paper and some of the following ideas …
1. Paint-splatters
I had so much fun creating this paint-splattered effect. Which didn’t actually involve paint – I didn’t have any, so I used Tippex. If you are going to try this at home folks then I would recommend covering up your carpet (it’s a good thing my carpet is silver. Praying Rich isn’t reading this.) and be aware that your hands will end up plastered in Tippex. However the fun factor and the end result more than makes up for it.
2. Figurines
I love the idea of using figurines as gift tags. The tiny lion toy in the image above has been spray painted gold and had a name tag ribboned to his belly.
3. Sharpies
Because, who needs gift tags when you’ve got a sprig of eucalyptus and a gold sharpie?
4. Baubles
Call me soppy but I think receiving a bauble or any other Christmas decoration is always a lovely present – it’s something you will use year on year and there’s always a memory behind it. Even better if said bauble is an extra prezzie and used to decorate the parcel, like the 3D kraft star in the slider above.
5. Pine cones
I keep meaning to take Lyra on a bit of a scavenging mission to find pine cones, sprigs of holly, and other foliage to pop on the top of those brown packages.
6. Jingle Bells
How cute is the combination of bells and pom pom ribbons? Raid your Christmas decorations/craft/sewing box – you just need the teeniest bit of colour and texture to transform a plain parcel.
7. Bunting
I would be pleased as punch to receive a parcel wrapped in bunting – it’s like two presents in one. The delicate bird bunting in the slider above also comes in kraft and printed. Gorgeous. Or if you’re handy with a sewing machine, you could have a go at making your own.
Is anyone else planning on transforming their lounge/office/kitchen table into a flurry of sellotape and Christmassy wrapping paper this weekend? Have you got any tips for prettying up those prezzies?
These wrapping ideas are stunning! I would love to wrap all my presents as beautifully as this, the only issue I have is that I always tend to get my hubby and the rest of my family lots of smaller presents rather than one main one…. I don’t think I would have the patience to do this for every one!! Xx
Sarah I usually jazz up the smallest gift and leave the bigger ones simple. stacking the fanciest one on top x
? Sarah!
Or you could put all the prezzies into one box? X
Ooh yes both excellent ideas, thanks ladies! I’m going to give it a go! X
Do you find it hard to keep the kraft paper stuck down? When I’ve tried it before the cellotape always ends up lifting up.
Yup I’ve had that before. However some strategically placed string usually does the trick x
Lovely ideas Lisa – I’ll be stealing the Tippex one! Did you do the calligraphy on the gift tag in the last pic? I always wish I could write that nicely… x
Ahh Tracy you will love it. I’m considering doing some more paint splattering with Lyra but will definitely be doing it outside or in the garage and using white washable paint rather than Tippex this time!
The gift tag was on one of Lauren’s Christmas packages…I aspire to be that good at calligraphy! X
Love love love wrapping. My favourite thing. I’m starting tonight and am going to have fun with the girls wrapping this year. There may be a post coming up on Rock My Family soon! xx
Lottie you are brave, tackling it with the girls! I’m far too OCD for that ?
Look forward to your RMF post, last years was great x
Love the bunting Lisa! I’m afraid I cheat abit with the help of Cox and Cox but their paper is great quality and I bought a huge tub of bells from them last year which are great on presents along with sprigs of eucalyptus. They are on form again this year. Love the Sharpie idea instead of gift tags! I love wrapping my presents by the tree with a Christmas movie on and mulled wine on the go, just before Christmas Eve. Far more magical than wrapping it all by October! Happy Christmas!
Will have to check out the Cox and Cox wrapping paper 🙂
Rich and I cracked open a bottle of M and S blood orange and cranberry Buck’s Fizz last night…it rivals the mulled wine!
Happy Christmas to you too x
I love this! Wrapping is one of my favourite things! These all look gorgeous 🙂 I have made a start on some wrapping but still quite a bit to do!! Happy December! H x
Thanks Hariette! If I could wrap presents for a living, I so would ? x
Me too! Got all my paper but no tags – how long does eucalyptus last as if I do them now will it have gone mouldy and withered by Christmas Day?! I normally do kraft luggage tags and holepunch a snowflake but I need a change! I think I need a metallic sharpie… what else could I use instead of lugggae labels or eucalyptus?!
This is a hard question Victoria! What about using tags made of antique maps/sheet music/photos or those glitter letter tags? X
I’m wrapping this weekend too! Looking forward to making a start, I’ve never been this early with it! Last year I ended up with back and neck ache from doing it all in one mammoth last minute sitting!
Oh Kitty I’d forgotten about the ache that comes with it! ?
Super post! I’m getting online now to order some brown paper!
Thanks Rebecca! Enjoy ?
