Hands up I’m a veritable magpie. I pretty much wear an element of metallic sparkle, iridescent shimmer or full on luminous glow on a daily basis but the festive season is where I come into my own. After all if you can’t glitter at Christmas then when can you?
We’d thought we’d cheer up this gloomy Monday with our wonderful round-up of all things sparkly over on the beauty counter. Honestly there are some real bargains to be had at the moment so it’s definitely worth bashing the plastic so that you can glimmer all the way through to New Year…
Laura Mercier
I say it every year but I adore Laura Mercier’s caviar eye sticks – in particular the Sugar Frost shade which is actually a staple in my makeup bag. I use it on my brow bone and in the corners of my eyes and under my lower eyelashes to open up my eyes and make them shine. The colour is spot on too – not too gold nor too pink and not cold either. Super flattering and easy to apply to boot.
I’ve also just indulged in this face Illuminator in the colour ‘Indiscretion‘ which adds the perfect amount of delicate shimmer to the cheekbones. It can be built up to a full metallic shimmer for those super special occasions too.
Smith & Cult
I mean with a name like Dirty Baby who can resist the gritty glittery nail varnish from luxe brand Smith and Cult. This hue incorporates ultra-fine silver glitter suspended in a obsidian toned base striking the perfect balance between edge and elegance.
Becca
If you’re looking for more illuminating products, look no further than Becca. In particular their Shimmering Skin Perfectors which will keep you glowing through the party season. Thus duo pack contains both the pressed and liquid version of bestselling ‘Moonstone’, which will effortlessly emphasise your favourite features.
Lancer Skincare
Ok so granted this product from Lancer Skincare doesn’t exactly fit within the ‘sparkly’ parameters but this apparently is the base of dreams to set off your face to perfection.
Beloved of the likes of Kim K, this treatment cream is enriched with 10% glycolic acid to help hydrate skin and lift away dulling, dead skin cells resulting in a smoother feeling visage. The perfect weapon to help combat hungover skin. Say bye bye to the effects of all those Christmas cocktails…
Eve Lom
Ok so we’ve covered skin….so how about lips? Eve Lom’s Kiss Mix Disco Ball includes a hydrating lip treatment that can be applied under lipstick, over lip colour or worn alone for enhanced shine.
Infused with a luxurious blend of active extracts, the treatment defends against environmental effects and weather conditions. Perfect for kissing the person of your dreams under the mistletoe…
M.A.C.
M.A.C’s Strobe Cream in Gold Lite gives a gorgeous refreshing creamy glowy effect to skin when used as a primer. It gives you radiant skin in a flash!
Available in shades of peach, silver, red and gold, the latter is our absolute favourite boosting the look of dull, tired-looking skin instantly. We’re ready for our close-up!
Guerlain
Without fail every single Christmas you can bet your bottom dollar that I will have sprayed myself with a hefty dose of Guerlain’s body spray. A graceful press of this old style glamour bulb releases a fine shimmery gold powder perfumed with Shalimar Souffle de Parfum fragrance that makes the wearer feel as if they’re channelling Marilyn Monroe. What’s not to love? You glimmer and smell like heaven…plus the bottle looks awesome on your dressing table too.
Bobbi Brown
If you’re not so enamoured with the Laura Mercier illuminating powder I recommended above then perhaps I could recommend Bobbi Brown’s take on the trend? Her Nude Finish Illuminating Powder is subtle and natural and instantly gives the wearer a lit-from-within glow. Sweep over your T-zone and all over your base to create a beautifully subtle, yet luminous glow.
Marc Jacobs
Charlotte adores this extreme-wear, waterproof eyeliner from Marc Jacobs. Essentially it’s like a gel pot eyeliner encased within a crayon that stays put for all-day wear. A built-in sharpener makes sure the eyeliner always has a perfect point for a sharp look on the go.
Midnight Paris looks like a beautiful shade but I’m also torn by the hue Lollipop as well for New Year’s Eve fun!
Victoria Beckham For Estée Lauder
I’m a big fan of VB’s collection for Estée Lauder and own both the black and golden eye foils as well as her illuminating creme.
The eye foils are particularly sparkly. Essentially they’re liquid eyeshadows with a high-shine, vinyl-like finish. Both colours are buildable which means you can opt for a subtle effect or go for full on glitterball.
But what I’m really REALLY loving at the moment is this creme. Part moisturiser, part brightening primer, this creme gives your skin the dewiest glow. It can be worn alone or under foundation (which is how I wear it) and I guarantee you’ll be the most radiant girl on the block.
HQ Hair
Priced at £25.00 but apparently worth £87.00 this beauty bauble contains a myriad of treats that are bound to make you glisten all the way through the party season.
Including Illamasqua’s Hydra Veil Primer, an ultra-pigmented lip and cheek pencil from NUDESTIX, an iridescent highlighter in ‘Supernatural’ from Illamasqua, a sultry bronzed eye shadow from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics and a luscious mascara from Illamasqua you can be sure you’ll be equipped to create a flawless make-up look that will have everyone swooning.
That’s my round-up; are there any makeup essentials that you absolutely must have for the festive season? If so you must tell me all about them! Any excuse for an extra bit of glitter in my life…;)
Oh I love Lolly’s make-up round ups, it means I HAVE to buy new things for my face ?
I already have “Dirty Baby” (I’m wearing it as I type) and I swear it doesn’t budge. I’ve had it on for a week with NO TOPCOAT (not intentionally, I just couldn’t find it among the umpteen boxes we are yet to unpack) and all I have is a small chip on my thumb. I used two coats of the polish (no base coat either). Magic.
I also have the Becca shimmering skin powder in moonstone and it’s gorgeous. It’s not too glittery – more of a glowy sheen. And it’s golden rather than pink which is perfect for yellow undertones.
And that folks is my assistant-enabler work done for the day! x
Knew I could count on you O’Shea 😉
Totes gonna get the Beauty Bauble and the Disco Ball as prezzies for friends x
