I often refer to my legs as ‘uncooked baguettes’ – yep you know the pale loaves that you find in vacuum packed bags? I very rarely show my pins to the world, however over the past week it’s been so hot that they have made a shock appearance.
Although the temperature may have dropped there still seems to be plenty of skin on show around the UK right now. This brings me on to today’s beauty post full of my favourite products that I’ve been using to attempt to leave me buffed and polished in this glorious summer.
Soap and Glory Scrub Your Nose in It
My Mum accidentally purchased this facial scrub after mistaking it for the hallowed Heel Genius and it has been hanging around her bathroom cupboard ever since. With all the slathering of mineral suncream, foundation and powder I’ve found my pores have been getting rather clogged so I was very happy when she gave me this tube to try a few weeks ago. I’ve been using this every other day across my t-zone and found my skin is brighter, smoother and clearer.
Thankfully Soap and Glory have recently changed the packaging to a more clinical white bottle so no more confusing feet for face and vice versa.
Boots Coconut Body Oil
I snapped up a jar of Coconut Oil after many, many recommendations from our lovely readers. Is there anything this product can’t do? I’ve been using it on my cuticles and dry patches on my elbows as well as as an eye make up remover but others are using it as a moisturiser, conditioner, heel softener. The list goes on! And it’s dirt cheap too. Word of warning though, in hot weather it obviously melts. As I was showing off my new beauty find to my friend I proceeded to pour it all over her floor. Clever.
Body Tonic Smoothing Scrub
In summer I find I need to step up the exfoliation stakes but don’t like the feeling of sandpaper rubbing across my skin. I’ve found Garnier’s sugar scrub to be great for smoothing my body. The grains are small too so it’s not too rough on delicate skin. I have fairly sensitive skin (though nowhere near as sensitive as Charlotte) and haven’t experienced any irritation with this exfoliator.
Avon Care Cocoa Butter
I have to use a deeply nourishing body lotion all year round and I am in love with this product. It only costs a few quid and leaves skin supple and smooth.
Rimmel Instant Tan Matte
This product has recently had a packaging overhaul too but I’m hoping it’s still the wonder product. I am allergic to every single fake tan going and really struggle to get a faux glow so have to use wash-off products instead. Rimmel’s Tan provides an instant sun kissed look to my uber pale skin. There is apparently a waterproof version too so no more streaks if you’re caught in the rain. I’ve also recently tried Sally Hansen’s Airbrush Leg Make-up too and was really impressed by the natural and non-patchy application. For those of you who aren’t allergic to fake tans, Charlotte is sharing her favourite later this week.
By the way, the legs are now back in trousers. They have made their annual appearance so are unlikely to be unveiled again.
What products are your skin saviours this summer? How do you keep your skin smooth and polished?
I went out and bought the Garnier Oil Beauty lotion which is really lovely and works a treat giving a bit of sheen doubt without looking like you’ve slathered baby oil over you! I’d really recommend it. Also can’t do without bronzer in the summer.
I really like the idea of a light sheen Victoria. Do you find the oil leaks down the bottle though?
No coz it is still a body cream / lotion rather than actually oil – its perfect consistency.
Oh I see, this sounds fab.
The Soap and Glory scrub is brilliant. You can leave it on for a few minutes as well as an oil absorbing mask which I love. I’m pretty old school with my body lotion and still use Palmers Cocoa Butter – I love it and it leaves my skin feeling soft all day.
Oooh the smell of Palmers Jennifer. I love it!
I must try the scrub as a mask. I keep forgetting you can use it in that way.
you just killed me with the “uncooked baguettes”. My legs too do not look like the two hot dogs in holiday pictures but uncooked baguettes. I’ve been called a Cullen before due to my so pale I shine in sunlight thing. I too had the same mishap with my coconut oil!
Last week they looked like they had been in the oven about twenty seconds. Now they’re back to uncooked status.
I’m yet to be called a Cullen but I reckon I could give them a run for their money!
I use the anti ageing Palmers body lotion (it has AHAs in it I think) on my upper arms to get rid of bumpy bits (so I don’t have to use body scrub every day) and those weird scrubby gloves with my shower gel.
I also use an instant tan (James Reed form M&S) with a foam mit thingy to stop me blinding the public with my blue shins.
Will look at the garnier body scrub as mines due to run out soon…
I have a rather special pink leopard print mit for my instant tan. It’s nice not to have one orange hand isn’t it?
I’ve never tried those scrubby gloves. I might have to give them a go.
Ha yes, especially with instant tan (why does it set so quickly on your hands!!) !!
I quite like the scrubby gloves and they aren’t too expensive and you don’t hav eto worry about rinsing off loads of scrubby bits (although hurt to buggery on ‘sun singed’ skin!!!).
The scrubby gloves are great! Can be used with your usual body wash and leaves your skin feeling nice and smooth 🙂 If you use them with a moisturising-y body wash, even better! I maybe go a bit hell-for-leather with my scruby gloves but I loves them, and they’re dead cheap for places like Bodycare/Savers etc 🙂

You’ve convinced me Annie. I must have a pair 🙂
I’ve used Sun Shimmer for so long it was branded as Coty in those days, no worries about streaks!
Eileen I’m worried about trying the new version as I love this one so much. Will have to brave it in the name of pasty legs.
Eileen I remember that too!!!!!!! I once put it on my face. #badidea
I’ve used the matte one on my face and it was quite nice really. I imagine the shimmer version would bring a whole new dimension to the term ‘summer glow’…
