A watermelon is apparently made up of 92% water. That’s a whole lot of H2O. Combine all this with their natural sugars and eating one is a sure-fire way to keep refreshed.
I love the look of a watermelon but usually shy away from buying them because I’m not too sure what to do with it. After a bit of research I’ve come up with three ideas for using this rather large and juicy fruit.

Lollies

For a healthy and hydrating lolly, slice the fruit into triangles and push in a lolly stick. Kiddiwinks love this idea and it should be less messy this way. Our top tip for doing this would be to take a knife to cut a full circle from the fruit and make incisions in the skin BEFORE cutting into triangles. I’ve also seen people add a cupcake wrapper to the stick too to catch the drips.

Salad

Dice up watermelon and feta into chunks and then add olives and mint for a super easy and invigorating salad. Finish with a squeeze of lemon juice or a drizzle of olive oil. Grilled halloumi also makes an awesome partner to watermelon.

Gin

For a thirst-quenching kick then mix together a little cocktail. This gin spritzer recipe from BBC Good Food takes cubed watermelon, sliced limes and a glug of gin to make a cheeky drink.

Then the other week, our cake baker supreme Charlotte from Buttercream and Dreams rocked up to Mrs O’Shea’s with this utterly awesome creation.

Who knew there were so many things you could do with a watermelon? What do you do with yours?
