I have accumulated a rather large selection of craft related products. Washi tape, punches, stamps, thread… if it’s stocked in HobbyCraft then I appear to own it too. Last week the Rock My Style team raided my craft cupboard to make a few handmade creations that could be used for any occasion.

For all of these cards we used a simple A6 pack of kraft card and envelopes that were around £4 for ten. You can pick up your own via eBay or Paperchase. If you make a few of your own DIY designs then it’s far cheaper than hitting your local card shop.

Stitched

  • Card
  • Two darning needles
  • Embroidery thread
  • Rubber

  • For this one, start out by writing your message in pencil and then take a darning needle to punch through your card at 5mm intervals
  • Once you’ve finished, take a rubber to erase the pencil marks
  • Then with a smaller darning needle and embroidery thread start to stitch
  • Secure with a double knot

    Stamped

  • Card
  • Alphabet stamps (ours are from Oliver Bonas)
  • Ink pad

  • Take an alphabet stamp and ink and get stamping. Need I say more?

    Embossed

  • Card
  • Dymo embossed label printer
  • Coloured envelope

  • Quite simply take a Dymo printer, press out your desired message and then peel off the backing paper to apply to your card
  • Cut at a jaunty angle if you’re feeling particularly playful…

    Blackboard Style

  • Card
  • Chalkboard paint
  • Small paintbrush
  • Liquid chalk pen

  • Simply draw around a cup with a pencil
  • Fill in the shape with the a couple of coats of paint
  • Take a thin chalk marker to write the message

    Bunting

  • Card
  • Washi tape
  • Bakers twine
  • Darning needle

    • This was probably the most fiddly one of the cards but probably only took about fifteen minutes. You make the bunting first and then the bows after.

  • For the bunting, punch through the card with a darning needle and thread your chosen twine through
  • Then take washi tape and fold over the thread, sticking the two tacky sides together
  • Trim into a pennant or a triangle shape and repeat
  • When you have your desired number of flags, pouch another hole at the end of the card and thread through your line of bunting
  • Secure in place with a double knot
  • For the bows, take the same darning needle and make two holes about 5mm apart positioned near the start of your bunting
  • Thread through a short pieces of twine and tie in a bow
  • Repeat at the other end
