As you know, we love you guys to bits and want to make sure we give you the content you want to read. One feature which has caused us a bit of a quandary is our Book Club series. It was one of the most requested features when we asked you last year what you’d like to see more of on RMS, but the comments and interaction with the club really seem to have dwindled and we were wondering if there was a place for the book club on our little blog.
Well it turns out from the feedback on our recent reader survey and from the emails we’ve received of late, you lovely lot are missing the Book Club. So it’s my pleasure today to resurrect said feature with a little bit of make-over.
Introducing The Autumn 2015 Rock My Style Book Selection
Today we’re launching the Autumn Book Club. Not one, but four reads to see you through to the new year. We’re hoping a more varied offering will spark a bit of interest with you and there’ll be something to appeal to all.
The Lake House | Kate Morton {Literary Fiction}
An intricate mystery with an abandoned house The Lake House holds the secrets of a baby’s disappearance one fateful night.
The Versions of Us | Laura Barnett {Contemporary Fiction}
Eva and Jim meet as students aged nineteen in The Versions of Us. The story follows three different versions of their future as their love story takes on different incarnations and twists and turns to the conclusion in the present day.
Spectacles | Sue Perkins {Biography}
Billed as a captivating memoir from a much-loved national treasure, Spectacles should have us all laughing out loud.
And The Sea Will Tell | Vincent Buglios {Crime}
Written by Charles Manson’s prosecutor, Vincent Buglios’ And The Sea Will Tell pieces together the mystery of what really happened with four people found hell in a tropical paradise.
Guest Reviewers
Now we’ve revealed four books I’m delighted to let you know we’ll also be recruiting a host of guest writers to provide their reviews. This season we’re very excited to welcome Emma Kingston from Year of the Yes and Emily Lewis as our guest bloggers who will each be reviewing two of our four books.
We’ll see you at the end of the month to check in our first two reviews on ‘The Lake House’ and ‘The Versions of Us’. Do let us know if you’ll be joining us in the new book group.
Ah this is perfect timing. when pregnant I read loads and since my son has been born I haven’t read a single book. I was saying just yesterday to the NCT girls instead of reading forums about why my baby is sleeping I need a good book for when I’m feeding! Thanks for the inspiration!
Fab news Anna, hope one of the titles appeals x
As a self-confessed book geek, I am very excited to be a part of the Autumn book club. I am already ploughing my way through my reads, so can’t wait to share my reviews and hear what you lovely lot think of them too… xx
So pleased to have you here Emma. Looking forward to reading your reviews x
These books look great! Definitely need a good read now the evenings are cold and dark.
I’ve always liked RMS book club and read and enjoyed a few of the suggested books, I was just never good on the timing – I’d never have started the book by the you were reviewing it! But the suggestions of what to read have been great!
It’ so lovely to curl up with a good book on a dark evening Fran! Glad you like our suggestions x
Great selections – however for the next book club any chance you could pick paperbacks? The brand new books are a bit pricier than I would normally spend. Thanks!
Hi Fran, very valid comment. I don’t have a kindle so I’ll definitely take this on board for next time. x
One of the reason the comments might be dwindling is the difficulty posting comments on your site. Several times I’ve commented and they’ve disappeared or been wiped. I’ve noticed on those posts there haven’t been many comments. It’s got to the point where I don’t bother to try. I understand others have the same issue. Fingers crossed this reply makes it.
Thanks for your comment Helen. Whenever we’ve had feedback on not being able to comment we’ve been unable to replicate at this end. Adam’s spent a lot of time looking into it! Would be great if you can let us know what browser you use.
I’ve had the same experience with comments being wiped when using my iPhone 5 (iOS9). I’ve never had a problem from my laptop but to be honest I usually always read RMS/RMF on my phone, so it’s put me off posting in the past too… I’ve started writing my posts in the Notes app first so that it’s less toe-curlingly frustrating if my comment gets wiped on submission! Xx
Hi Jenn, thanks for the feedback. Our spam filter is a bit overzealous sometimes so we’ve made a few changes so fingers crossed it shouldn’t happen anymore x
Yeah, pleased this is back!
We are too Tinny x
Oh yay! I am in need of new books now the nights are drawing in.
Timing was definitely an issue for me last time and I was never sure exactly when the book club would be. If we could have a quick reminder maybe two days before the post goes live it would give a nudge to finish the book in time so we can join in with the comments!
K x
Thanks Katie, that’s a great idea. Will definitely make sure we do this. x
Yey! Very excited that the Book Club is back! Looking forward to getting stuck in to these books over the next few months.
We’re glad to have you with us Rose x
So pleased book club is back. Which two will be reviewed at the end of this month? I’m interested in reading a few and would like to be able to contribute to the discussion.
Hi Sarah, it’s very likely to be Versions of Us and The Lake House. I’ll put a reminder in a post next week though x
Oh brilliant – like the idea of having 4 to read over a longer period of time. I’m going to start with Sue Perkins book. I bloody love Sue.
x
She’s ace Sian! x
I’m here!!! And I bought a kindle especially for rms book club! Glad it’s back xxx
Yay Hayley! I need to get myself a kindle pronto x
The Versions of Us is the best book I have read in a long time. Deeply moving and thought provoking. I can’t wait to hear others’ thoughts on it.
Hi Zoe, I know Emma is enjoying too. We’re aiming to review on the 27th November so I hope you’ll pop back to let us know your thoughts x
Thanks Lauren – this is great !
I was going to download ‘Versions Of Us’ as it came up as a recommended read on my amazon account!
Have a good weekend x
Have a great weekend too Ashu, and enjoy Versions of Us x
Yay, so glad book club is back. I think knowing when you will review is important as it spurs me on to read it in time. Also I tried on a couple of book club posts to comment and they always disappeared! Books sound great, must finish my current read asap ( I have an hour until my nephew wakes up so better get going!) Xx
Emma… i’m having the same problem now :/ I think it’s just an intermittent thing, but no idea what causes it
Hi Emma and Karen, is there a particular browser you’re using when it happens? x
I’m on Chrome my love. It happens every now again, I sometimes wonder if there’s something being blocked, it was doing the other day too.
I’m enjoying reading my crazed soliloquy though 😉 xxx
We’ll get the Cromeister on to it….
I’m also on chrome, on my phone! X
Adam has done some jiggery-pokery in the background and we’re hoping there won’t be any more issues. Sorry you’ve been having trouble x
Oh ace. Ive been missing Book Club.
I love Kate Morton, I didn’t know she had a new one so this is excellent news. Sue Perkins is on my reading list too.
Good to see a little selection to choose from, I think my problem was that I kept on missing which book was coming up next so couldn’t read along. I’ll make sure I pick these two up so I can join the chat once Emma and Emily’s reviews are up.x
Hi Karen, we’ll try to make sure it’s much clearer which books we’ll be reviewing. In fact, I’m going to make a quick edit to the post now to let you know which books we’ll be reviewing first. x
It was more my fault. I’d read it then forget what it was! Good idea though 🙂
Now I’m going to stop speaking, even though i’m enjoying seeing my face over and over and over again x
Ah man it’s doing that thing again where it’s not posting comments!
Pumped for Book Club. Kate Morton & Sue Perkins are on my reading list. Looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks xx
anyone else having trouble commenting?
(of course thats the only one that worked!)
hahaha okay so now they’re up I just look like I’ve written a stream of awkward ramblings. hi!
Karen I’m crying with laughter over here!
Same!!!
Hello… Hello… /weep/ x
I am very glad you’re back!! I read ‘Versions of Us’ over the summer and loved it!! I will buy the Lake House and look forward to the discussions. I think a reminder about the date of the discussion would help nudge me to comment. Thanks!
Ompleased the book club is back. About to have an Amazon spree!!! Hardest decision is which to start with.
So pleased the book club is back. About to have an Amazon spree!!! Hardest decision is which to start with.
I am very happy that the book club is back. I loved nearly all the suggested books in the past. I only struggled with The Bees. I still have to decide if I will read The Lake House (I read books by Kate Morton before and loved them) or The Version of us.
