I have spent much of January and February in a uniform of leather and wool. I tell a lie actually as I’ve also been sporting a rather large selection of ‘mufti wear’ as we tackle the first round of decorating but when I’ve left the house I seem to favour a jumper and leather skirt.
I have to admit I haven’t even managed to pull together a winter capsule wardrobe. I’m still kitting out in the same stuff from my autumn capsule with a few thicker knits thrown in. My clothes are still strewn all over the place as we haven’t got round to sorting out any storage yet. However I’ve come up with a whole new plan for the closet conundrum which no doubt I’ll share with you soon.
Right, back to the leather, well pleather in my case. Charlotte was sporting a lush faux red leather one last week from Free People, I on the other hand have a Zara a-line and Next Pencil one in my wardrobe both of which are a couple of years old.
I spend half of my week in a smart-casual office where it’s perfectly acceptable to wear a leatherette skirt (as long as it’s a fairly decent length). I also like their versatility for nipping to the pub or out shopping. This year I’ve teamed with many different knits for a bit of cosy texture.
At the bottom of the post there’s a little round-up of pleather skirts (all under £50 I have to add). A special mention has to go out to a few bobby dazzlers. How much fun is the Oasis fringed number?! Fab for channelling the seventies vibe. I’m also tempted by their grey version to mix it up from the usual black though this one in particular seems a bit short. Then there’s a cheeky side split over at Warehouse and a cute wrap-around from H&M. For those of you who like a fuller shape then Topshop have a skater style which would look great with a turtle neck. but if you fancy being a bit more demure, the Mango a-line grey skirt is a stunner.
Forever 21 have a very sleek pencil number for those who like a longer length – or alternatively the Asos one shown in the image above is a super sexy and sophisticated get-up as well.
How do you style your leather or pleather skirt? Any one else love a wool and leatherette combo? Any leather skirt finds you’d love to share? If you’re after a pair of leather trousers do check out Charlotte’s post from a couple of months ago.

Oooh, I love the fringe one but don’t think I could pull that off. So many good ones to choose from though… think it might have to be between the grey oasis one or the longline asos one! I’d never thought about wearing my current one with wool… will have to investigate this in my wardrobe asap! xx
Get your woolies out Caroline! x
Zara had a fab A line last season in a variety of colours. My most recent purchase is the H&M wrap around. Love a bit of (p)leather! X
Love the H&M one Asha. Very tempted myself x
I have an a-line black leather skirt I adore but struggle with what shoes look right? Suggestions gratefully received…!
Hi Sarah, I usually go for ankle boots or if I’m attempting to be sophisticated – a pointy court shoe. I think you can go with quite a lot of different styles x
Oooh I have the same skirt that you’re talking about Asha. It’s seen me through most of this autumn and winter – I bought it in black and it’s been the best addition to my wardrobe for ages.
I style it with a jumper and flats for day to day, smarten it up with a tucked in silk blouse and chunky ankle boots or go all out with a glittery sweater and sky-high shoe boots for parties.
Love your selection too Lauren x
Loving your looks Karen. You foxy lady! x
Yes, I struggled with what shoes to wear too Sarah. I always end up wearing it with ankle boots too Karen! xx
Ankle boots with everything!
Sarah I think an a-line looks nice with lace up flats too. But these are my faves if i’m dressing it up: http://www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,37/2385101678 x
I’ve been ankle booting thus far but my goodness, they are lush.
I love the idea of flats and I’ve been trying to justify a purchase of lace-up variety so this could tip it! Ta very much x
Ooooh, I love these cut out shoe boots… definitely going on the wish list! x
Ooohhhh thanks for this Lauren! I bought a pleather skirt from oasis in the xmas sales and I keep looking at it in fear, not really knowing what to wear it with! Going out for a little fabulous lunch with the husband next week, so maybe it will get its first outing then – now I know how to wear it! Thank you xxx
Rock that pleather Mrs R 😉 Have a fab lunch x
[…] Charlotte and I have harped on about our appreciation for the leather (or pleather) skirt. As with the white shirt this is an item for all seasons. I was wearing mine in the heat of the […]
